Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in Smoking Plum

16/09/2017

Now that it’s starting to get colder outside I’ve been really into wearing plum and berry coloured lipsticks. I used to love the idea of them in the past few years, but I was never confident enough to actually wear them which is why I don’t have a lot of high-quality plum/berry lipsticks. Because I am confident enough to wear a darker colour like this nowadays I decided to invest in one. I ended up buying the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in the shade 48 Smoking Plum and today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out more about this gorgeous lipstick, make sure you continue reading!

Like all Yves Saint Laurent products, this lipstick comes in a stunning packaging. I have to say that I can see why some people might think this is a little tacky or overboard, but I do like it. It also has something classy and elegant to it. The lipstick is almost completely made out of gold metal and has the YSL logo in the middle, as well as a little band that shows the colour of the lipstick. The lipstick feels pretty heavy which makes it feels very luxurious and well made. I really like it!

The Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are hydrating, they have a glossy finish and they are very comfortable to wear. In my opinion these YSL lipsticks are the best lipsticks ever created because of that. They feel so lightweight, soft and comfortable and I really feel like they hydrate my lips. I know that these lipsticks come with a huge price tag, but for me it’s really worth it and I’m not even that into lipstick.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in Smoking Plum – €38,70

Usually when I buy an expensive lipstick I go for nudes, but because lately I’ve been loving plum and berry colours I decided to step out of my comfort zone and go for a brighter colour. The shade I ended up buying is called 48 Smoking Plum. Like the name already suggests this is a plum coloured lipstick and in the tube it does look pretty scary. However, these YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks aren’t very rich if that makes any sense. They are creamy, hydrating and pigmented, but not in a MAC amplified cream kind of way. Therefore this colour will look less extreme on the lips than it might look in the tube, but it still will give you that gorgeous plum colour.

What I like about the colour is that it has something autumnal to it. Of course most berry/plummy colours do that, but lot of berry and plum coloured lipsticks I own have something a lot more pink to them and this one really has that autumnal tint to it. It’s more red than pink and I like that a lot about this colour. I know this probably doesn’t make any sense at all, but I hope by looking at the pictures you will be able to understand what I’m trying to say.

Moving on to the quality of the lipstick. Like I said the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipsticks are known for their amazing formulas. They are extremely soft and smooth on the lips, like seriously the smoothest lipsticks ever, and they are very hydrating as well. That combination is just insane. I remember putting on my fist YSL lipstick for the first time. I was so shocked by how amazing it felt. Before that I loved the way MAC lipsticks felt, that was the best I’d ever felt, but even MAC lipsticks are nothing compared to the texture of YSL lipsticks. And I get that all seems cool but a little unbelievable to those who have never tried a YSL lipstick, but trust me they are incredible!

Aside from the texture I also really like the finish of this lipstick. I know that matte lipsticks are all the rage right now and they have been forever, but I don’t like matte lipsticks. They are dry, uncomfortable and they make my lips look wrinkly. This lipstick is the opposite of that. It has a really pretty shiny, glossy finish and it actually makes your lips look really good. Even if you have a ton of dry patches, this will make your lips look like a hundred bucks.

The pigmentation of this lipstick is great. This is, like I said, not one of those rich, fully pigmented lipsticks, but I like that about it. I applied just one layer of colour for this swatch, but if you really want it to be more intense you can definitely build it up to be that way. For me this amount of pigmentation is perfect. It’s opaque and pigmented, but it’s not too much. And I honestly can’t say anything but I love it. I really love the way that it looks on my lips. It’s by far one of my favourite lip colours!

Staying power isn’t necessarily the strongest suit of an YSL lipstick. They are incredible and they are my favourite lipsticks on earth, but they definitely don’t last for hours and hours. Of course it does depend on the colours because nude colours do get invisible much quicker than brighter ones like this one, but overall it won’t last longer than 3-4 hours depending on how much lip-action you’re getting.

Overall I do really like this YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick in the shade Smoking Plum. I’m really glad I finally decided to get out of my comfort zone and get a brighter more unique shade. It’s the perfect shade for autumn and it’s just the perfect plum colour in the world. It’s fun but still wearable. Aside from that the quality is just amazing and it’s literally the best lipstick that has ever touched my lips. So if you’re willing to splurge on a lipstick, definitely go for YSL!

And that pretty much concludes today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you’ve ever tried a YSL lipstick and if so, be sure to let me know which colour is your favourite!
