Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick in Nude Lavalliere

27/10/2017

Ever since I bought my first YSL lipstick, which is exactly a year ago tomorrow, I’ve been in love with them. I never knew lipstick could feel that great on your lips. I mean I used to be a lipstick hater just because of the feeling on the lips. The YSL lipsticks just really changed the lip-game for me and I couldn’t be happier about that. Because I love them so much I decided I wanted to buy some more to grow my YSL collection. About 2 or 3 months ago I bought one in the shade Smoking Plum and one in the shade Nude Lavalliere. Recently I reviewed Smoking Plum, so today it’s time for me to talk about Nude Lavalliere. If you’re interested in reading about everything there is to know about this gorgeous and luxurious lipstick, make sure you continue reading!

I think that everyone who is familiar with the brand YSL, or even everyone who is in love with makeup, knows what the YSL lipsticks look like. I remember looking at them when I was younger and thinking I would never be able to have one. It seemed like an impossible to achieve dream. Luckily that dream wasn’t as impossible to achieve as I thought and now I have about 4 YSL lipsticks, but that’s not the point.

Let’s talk packaging. I think YSL lipstick packagings are very luxurious looking and feeling. They are hefty which makes it feel very luxurious and the gold colour makes it look luxurious. I really love the YSL logo all around the tube, I think it looks absolutely stunning. Of course the packaging is a little bit over the top, but it’s pretty. It’s luxurious and it’s just gorgeous to look at. I really love having them on display.

Another great thing about the packaging is that you can tell which colour it is through the middle of the tube. This way you don’t have to open it up to find out. Of course some lipsticks have this on the bottom which is even better, but this does look a bit more luxurious in my opinion.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-In-Stick Lipstick – €39

Moving on to the colour. This is shade 44 Nude Lavalliere. It’s, like the name already suggests, a nude colour and therefore perfect for everyday wear. When I buy luxurious lipsticks I usually like to go for shades like this that are wearable on a daily basis so I can get the most wear out of them. However, Smoking Plum, which is the YSL lipstick I bought along with this one, is a brighter colour. I also think it’s great to have a couple high quality lipsticks in a more unique shade. Anyway, back to Nude Lavalliere.

I have to admit that back when I bought it I wasn’t quite sure about the shade. The thing with nude colours is that they are pretty but it can be very challenging to find the right nude for you. Some nudes can be too light and look like concealer on your lips, some are too barbie for my taste and some are way too dark. When I looked up swatches of this shade I did get mixed feelings. On some people it looked like the perfect nude colour, but on others it looked a little too barbie for me. But it turns out that it’s actually the perfect nude for me. If it would have been a tad bit more brown I wouldn’t have hated it either, but this is really pretty as well.

I do think that this is a colour that could look great on all skin tones, but I think most colours do to be completely honest. But since I’m very pale and I can only speak for myself I can say that it definitely looks like a perfect nude colour on pale girls!

Moving on to the claims. According to Yves Saint Laurent this is an oil-infused lipstick that provides luscious shine and colour and smooth hydrating comfort. It should have medium-coverage and condition the lips. The texture is supposed to be deeply hydrating and therefore it should keep your lips looking healthy and more nourished. It’s supposed to be super comfortable to wear and a gorgeous high shine finish.

Overall the claims aren’t too extreme or surprising, but they are nice things. I mean, who doesn’t love a comfortable yet nourishing lipstick, right? I know I do. And I have to say that in a nutshell, the things they say about this lipstick are all completely true. There isn’t one little thing I could possibly disagree with and that’s just absolutely incredible. A brand that actually claims things that are true!

Of course I will also let you guys know why I think they are true, since that’s possibly why you are reading this review. Let’s start off with the texture of this lipstick, the nourishing aspect. I think that when you feel this lipstick for the first time you’ll instantly understand what I mean when I say it’s one of the most nourishing lipsticks ever. It just has that feel to it, that hydrating, nourishing feel. It feels like oil in the shape of a lipstick and that is a great thing. And don’t worry, it’s not as heavy and greasy as actual oil is, it feels really nice on the lips, but it definitely has that oil feeling to it.

The feeling of the lipstick on the lips might be one of the best things about this lipstick. It’s very soft and smooth yet very weightless and comfortable. It’s just a relief after all of those terrible feeling matte liquid lipsticks of the past couple of years. This is so extremely comfortable and the complete opposite of drying. It’s just amazing.

The part where they claim this lipstick has medium coverage is true as well and I really like that about it. I like that it isn’t fully opaque because I’m just not that into very heavy and pigmented lip colours. Because of the medium coverage this lipstick has a rather natural look to it, even if you’re wearing a more bright colour, and it also has a more soft effect in my opinion. It doesn’t look as harsh.

Aside from all of that this lipstick has a gorgeous high-shine finish. In a time where matte lipsticks are all the rage that high-shine finish might not be very popular or loved, but lord oh lord I absolutely love it. I mean look at is. Isn’t that glossy finish just very sexy. Aside from that the glossy finish also makes the lipstick look a little more wearable and neutral and that’s a big plus too.

Lastly let’s discuss the staying power. Like we all know glossy lipsticks aren’t the most long lasting ones and this definitely isn’t an exception to that rule. This isn’t a lipstick that is going to stay on your lips all day, but it does stay in place for a good 3 to 4 hours. The brighter colours do stay in place a little longer since they kind of stain the lips, but the more natural colours like this one don’t.

Overall I’m a really big fan of the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick in the shade Nude Lavalliere. It’s a very pretty nude colour, perfect for everyday wear and quality wise it’s just insane. These YSL lipsticks are definitely the best lipsticks out there and therefore I highly recommend splurging on one if you haven’t done so already. Yes, they are incredibly expensive, but they are 100% worth the money!

That’s everything for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this lipstick and also let me know which (YSL) lipstick is your absolute favourite!
