Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium

17/02/2018

Whenever my best friend and I go shopping and we go to a perfume store she always makes me smell the most amazing perfumes. They’re always the best smelling perfumes I’ve ever smelled in my entire life and at the same time some of the most expensive ones I’ve ever smelled. And every single time she does this to me I say to myself “I won’t buy it” but I always end up doing it anyways. A while ago I fell for it again and I ended up buying Black Opium from Yves Saint Laurent. I’ve had it for a while now but because I was very busy lately I couldn’t find the time to review it just yet. However, my schedule has cleared up a little now so now I do have time to finally talk to you guys about this amazing perfume. If you’re interested in finding out if I think this is perfume is worth the money and why, make sure you continue reading!

First things first, the packaging. Black Opium comes in a small black bottle. The first time I saw the bottle I was pretty surprised by how small the bottle actually is. Of course I know that 30 ml isn’t a ton of product, but well, I just figured that the bottle looked smaller in real life than I had imagined. It does contain 30 ml so even though it appears small, you get just as much product as you would in a bigger 30 ml bottle so that’s great.

When it comes to the design of the bottle I have to say I’m not head over heals with it, but I do really like it. I like that it’s black since this perfume is called ‘Black Opium’ after all. I also love the sparkle on the bottle. I think it adds something fancy and luxurious. I also like the little window in the middle because it allows you to see how much is still left inside your bottle. I also like it because you can see the colour of the perfume through it and I think that’s pretty as well.

Overall I do really like the bottle. I like the glittery black and even though it’s smaller than I expected, I do think that’s a pro. Because of the small size it doesn’t take up much space at all and therefore it’s a great perfume to just throw in your bag whenever you’re leaving the house for a night or for when you’re going on vacation.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau de Perfume – €73 (30 ml)

I have to admit that the very first time I gave this perfume a sniff after buying it I was a little disappointed. I don’t really know why but for some strange reason I just felt a little let down and I wasn’t that in love with it as I expected to be.  And since this is a rather expensive product that just put me in a bad mood.

So, the next day I decided to wear it anyway, even though I thought I wasn’t that in love with it. After all I didn’t buy an expensive perfume for nothing. I should wear it. And from the moment I sprayed some of this fluid onto my shirt I was in love. This literally was and still is the best scent I have smelled until the day of today. I tried not using it too often so I won’t finish it very quickly, but for the past couple of month’s I’ve been using this on a daily basis without fail. I don’t know what it is about it, but it’s just the most mesmerising scent and I love it to death.

As you guys probably already know I’m terrible at describing scents, but I’m going to try it anyway. This scent is a combination of sweet and lady-like. It’s not a full on evening perfume because of the sweetness, but it’s not one of those child-appropriate sweet scents. Not sweet in a way it’s just too much and it smells cheap. I know this doesn’t make any sense at all, but I’m trying here. I would say that it’s a luxurious sweet scent perfect for everyday wear.

The strength of the scent is about right as well. Just one spray of this is enough to smell gorgeous all day long. I have worn two sprays of it a couple of times but that could become too much. When I did that once a while ago my boyfriend told me the only thing he could smell at that moment was my perfume. And even though it’s a gorgeous smelling perfume, that’s not what you’re going for. So please take my advice and just wear one spray. That’s enough for a whole day of good-smellingness and it saves a lot of perfume.

Like I said I’ve been wearing this perfume everyday without fail for the past few months, and surprisingly enough it still seems as if I haven’t used it at all. Because this perfume is quite strong and therefore you need very little, the bottle will last you for ages. So in my book that’s a huge plus and also one of the reasons why I think this perfume is definitely worth the money!

Overall I’m just a huge fan of YSL’s Black Opium. It’s pretty much the best smelling perfume I’ve smelled in all my life and I think it’s a very unique scent as well. I also think it’s appropriate for all kinds of occasions and situations and therefore I think it’s totally worth the money. If you haven’t done so already, I highly recommend going to the store and giving this perfume a sniff. It’s absolutely incredible!

That’s pretty much it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of Black Opium (if you’ve ever smelled it) and also let me know which perfume is your current favourite!
