One of the most iconic concealing products in the whole entire world is the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. Aside from being very popular it’s also very expensive and because of that hefty price tag in combination with the small amount of product you actually get, I never ended up buying it. Until I came across this coffret set, which includes the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat as well as a mini of their Volume Mascara. I ended up buying it and after trying both product thoroughly it’s finally time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out more about this Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Coffret Set, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by talking about the main product of this set, the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. The packaging of the Touche Eclat is very luxurious and also very iconic. It’s shaped like a pen and the entire outside of the pen is golden. It has black letters on it and aside from that it’s very simplistic and minimalistic. I think that this simplicity in combination with the gold creates a very luxurious and chic look. The pen also feels relatively hefty for something with this little product which also adds to that luxurious feeling.
When you take off the lid you’ll find a little brush made out of white synthetic hairs. The shape of the hairs is pretty basic, they’re just straight, and they are very soft and flexible. In order to get some product out of the tube you have to push the button at the bottom of the pen. The first time you use it you have to click this button a million times, but after using it once only one or two clicks are enough to dispense enough product to highlight and conceal all of the ares you want to highlight or conceal.
Overall I think the packaging looks luxurious and I think it’s very functional. I think this is a very efficient way to dispense product, even though it’s not the most hygienic one. If you do want to make it more hygienic you could wash the little brush on top every so often, but I personally don’t take the time to do that.
Having thoroughly discussed the packaging, let’s start talking about the product itself. Starting off by discussing the claims. According to Yves Saint Laurent their Touche Eclat is a magical want that makes the skin look radiant. It’s a cult favourite in the beauty community and it’s used a lot by stars and models. A lot of brands have tried to copy it, but never succeeded in making something just as amazing as this. The YSL Touche Eclat concealer holds on to the light, covers up signs of exhaustion and fades blemishes. With just one click you can provide your skin the amount of hydration it needs.
Overall Yves Saint Laurent tries to sell this as a magical concealer perfect for covering up everything and making your entire face look flawless and highlighted. It has always been a big discussion what this actually is. Some people try to use it as an actual concealer and others claim it’s more of a highlighting product. I believe it’s actually meant to be a highlighting product rather than a concealer, but not highlighting in a glowy kind of way. It’s more like a product that brightens up areas that need some brightening. However, I don’t get why they recommend using it to fade blemishes if it’s actually a brightening product because you really don’t want to brighten those areas of the skin, but that might just be a stupid thought of my own.
My personal favourite way to use it is as an additional step in my base makeup routine. I first apply my skincare, primer, foundation and concealer like normal and then I like to go in with this. I put a bit of this in my eye area to brighten that, then I apply a bit to the bridge of my nose, to my forehead and to my chin. I know that if you use it the way I use it, it is an additional and therefore not a very necessary one, but I do really like the effect it has on my complexion and therefore I do personally think that it is worth the money. If you do want to use it on its own, for example instead of concealer, you can definitely do so. It does have a very pretty effect underneath the eyes like that. But my dark circles are just way too dark in order for me to use this on its own to cover that up.
Okay, I’m only realising it now but it looks like I forgot to blend the product I put on my nose. Well that’s stupid. I’m sorry guys! Anyway, as you can tell the product really has a nice and brightening effect on my face. It brightens up the areas that I want to and because of that my face looks brighter, more lively and healthier. It might seem like a minimal difference to some of you, but I can tell the difference and I really like the look of it. So overall, if you use it as a product to brighten areas of your face I think it’s a great product.
As a concealer it’s not too bad either, but it’s just not the highest covering product out there. It’s great for really small blemishes or minimal dark circles, but this isn’t going to compete with the real big pimples or the nearly black dark circles. It’s not made for that so just keep that in mind while purchasing this.
Even though I keep saying it’s not really a powerful concealer I do think it clears up my skin. If you compare the first picture with the third one you can definitely tell that my complexion appears a lot smoother and clearer. Especially on my chin and on my left cheek.
Overall I do really like the YSL Touche Eclat. It’s definitely a unique product and it took me a while to really figure out what I wanted to do with it, because it is such a strange product. It’s not really a highlighting product but it isn’t a full-on concealer either. Either way, I do like what this product does for me. I mostly use it as an additional step in my makeup routine because I think it works best like that for me, but you can definitely use this on its own if you do have a nice and clear complexion.
I am aware of the fact that this is a crazy expensive product and that’s it is excessive to spend this much money on a product that is just an additional step in your routine, but for me it’s worth it because it really finishes off the look I like to create. It’s a minimal difference but it’s exactly that difference that I was looking for. So for me this is definitely worth it, but I don’t think this is a product for everyone.
Moving on to the mascara. This is the Yves Saint Laurent Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils. I personally have never heard of this mascara before but that could totally be because I have never tried an Yves Saint Laurent mascara nor have I ever been seriously interested in getting one. But that’s besides the point, let’s talk about the wand first before we start talking about the quality and its effect.
The YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils is a mascara aimed at intense volume and length and exceptional hold. The mascara should create the luxurious look of false lashes by creating high volume and a dramatic false lash effect. The formula is supposed to be non-drying and is enriched with B5 pro-vitamin, which deepens, darkens and leaves the lashes looking instantly thicker. The nylon fiber brush is supposed to build luscious volume and coat the lashes from root to tip for a bold false-lash look.
As you can clearly tell from the picture the mascara definitely does great things for my lashes. At least I think it does. I think that the effect is really nice and dramatic. I love how black this mascara makes my lashes. But it’s also natural. And that’s a very unique combination. The reason why I think it’s both dramatic and natural is because it does make my lashes really nice and thick, black, volumized and long, but it doesn’t clump them up, it doesn’t make them too thick and it doesn’t look fake. It still looks like these are my own lashes but with a lot more volume than they usually have. And I have to admit that I really like the look of that, even though it’s a strange combination of things.
The wand of the brush is pretty okay. I’m personally not a big fan of these softer haired brushes, I prefer mine spiky. What I do like about the wand is that it does really pick up every lash and therefore it does an amazing job at separating my lashes. I really feel like it does an exceptionally good job at that.
Once the mascara has dried down I do think that my lashes feel really nice because it doesn’t make them very hard. It actually keeps them feeling like actual hairs, but because of that I also feel like it’s going to lose intensity throughout the day. And in all honesty that is what happens. Throughout the day the volume and the drama does lose intensity. My lashes will become less dramatic and more natural looking.
On the positive note, when this does happen, it happens gradually and the mascara that does leave my lashes doesn’t transfer onto my face. It’s not like you’ll end up with panda-eyes or a lot of black flakes underneath your eyes at the end of the day. So overall the staying power is great because it doesn’t move onto other parts of the face, but this mascara does lose intensity throughout the day and that’s a bit of a sad thing.
Overall I do like the YSL Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils. It’s a mascara I usually wouldn’t go for because of the wand, but I’m glad that I got the opportunity to give it a try because in the end I do think it’s a nice mascara. I really love the amount of volume it adds to my lashes and I love how dramatic it makes my lashes look. I do think that it needs a touch-up throughout the day if you’re wearing it all day long, but aside from that I’m definitely a fan.
Overall I’m really glad I finally tried out the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat. It’s such a famous product in the beauty industry and now I finally experienced why. It’s just a really nice, perfecting product. It’s the cherry to the pie and that’s exactly what I like about it. The mascara that comes in this set as well is really nice. It adds tons of volume to my lashes and it just makes them look phenomenal. I really like this set and if you’re interested in trying the YSL Touche Eclat I think this is a great way to do so.
That’s it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this little set and if you have any experience with the YSL Touche Eclat!
