Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in Sheer Liar

07/12/2017

On my birthday my boyfriend gifted me my first Urban Decay lipstick ever. I’ve always wanted to have and try one, but I had never gotten around to actually do that. So, when I got this lipstick I was pretty dang excited and I immediately started trying it out. I have been wearing it for a good couple of weeks now which is why I feel like I have enough experience with it to write a review about it. So, if you’re interested in finding out everything there is to know about this lipstick, make sure you continue reading!

Let’s start off by talking about the packaging of the product like we always do. The first thing I noticed about the packaging when I first held it was how light it is. Most more luxurious lipsticks are quite hefty and that makes them feel somewhat more luxurious. However, this one is very lightweight. You can clearly feel that the packaging is made out of plastic and that’s okay, however I would have liked it more if it would be a bit more hefty. I just like that a little better. Anyway, moving on to the rest of the packaging because the weight isn’t the only thing to it.

The design of the packaging is very, very pretty. I really like the colour scheme they worked with because it has something very elegant and luxurious to it. I think the packaging looks very sleek and very, very pretty. So even though the packaging doesn’t feel luxurious, I do think that it looks luxurious and I do like that about that.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Sheer in Sheer Liar – €19,50

Moving on to the shade I got. The shade is called Sheer Liar and it’s from the Sheer range within the Vice Lipstick range. Those who have been reading my blog for a while now know that I really like sheer lipsticks, I like to keep things natural on a daily basis and sheer lipsticks allow me to do that without being a boring shade. Therefore choosing a lipstick from this range seemed perfect for me. The colour itself is called Sheer Liar which, I think, is a pretty fun name. The colour itself is pretty natural. It’s a very pretty warm rosy pink colour. It’s natural, but if it weren’t a sheer lipstick it could look quite heavy and unnatural on the lips, which is why I’m so glad that it is a sheer lipstick.

I think Sheer Liar is a very perfect more-fun-than-nude colour. It’s not plain or boring, but it is still very wearable. It’s also a colour that looks good on a lot of people, probably on everyone, and a colour I think is appropriate for every makeup look and every occasion. It’s just a very multifunctional colour and a very versatile one in my opinion.

The only teeny tiny downside to this shade, and to most rather warm lipstick colours, is that it could make your teeth appear a little bit more yellow. Not in an extreme way at all, not like a warm brown colour could, but it doesn’t make them look whiter either.  I hope this makes some kind of sense to you.

Moving on to the claims. I have to say that the entire piece of text Urban Decay provides on their website isn’t very informative. All they tell us is that they have a large range of Vice lipsticks with different finishes and 100 shades, ranging from bright shades to neutrals. The only sort of relevant information they provide is that the sheer lipsticks provides a subtle colour with a shiny finish. However, that isn’t very new information, most sheer lipsticks are like that. I don’t really know why they don’t claim anything else than that, but okay. Let’s just let it go and move on to the rest of the review.

Because there are no claims to form a guideline for this review I’m just going to start off by talking about texture. I personally really like lipsticks with a very smooth and soft texture, but also a very lightweight texture. One that really melts onto the lips. I have to say that I didn’t expect this kind of texture from this lipstick. I expected it to be more of a rich but lightweight formula, but instead it’s more balmy like a lip balm. I don’t think that what I’m saying is making any sense whatsoever, but I hope that it does or that the swatch which you’ll see in a second will clarify my message.

Anyway, because it’s a nice and balmy, lightweight lipstick I think it’s very comfortable to wear. You can’t really feel that it’s there and that makes it perfect for everyday wear and for those of you who really don’t like the feeling of lipstick or anything on their lips in general. I used to be someone who didn’t like the feeling of something on their lips, but this really is comfortable enough for me.

Whoops, I missed a spot. Ignore that please! Anyway, let’s talk pigmentation. Like I mentioned before this is a sheer lipstick. However, it does have plenty of colour pay-off. I think that for a sheer lipstick it’s actually quite opaque, but it still has that sheer effect to it which makes it look more wearable and natural. I really like the balance between pigmentation and sheerness and I think Urban Decay did a great job on finding that perfect balance. Only a tad bit more pigmentation would’ve made it too much, but now it is just perfect.

Another thing I really like about this lipstick is the finish. I love the glossy, shiny finish. I’m not that into matte lips at all actually because I think glossy lips look way more natural, healthy, sexy and radiant and that’s pretty much the look I’m going for on a daily basis. Well, not a sexy look per se, but you get my point don’t you?

Moving on to staying power. Even though I love this lipstick very dearly and even though I think a lot about it is absolutely incredible, the staying power isn’t its strong suit. It’s not a lipstick that will disappear in an hour, but it won’t survive a meal, a drink or things like kissing and such. Also talking a lot has a negative effect on how long this will stay on your lips. In an ideal situation where you don’t eat, drink, kiss or talk it will stay in place for a good 3 to 4 hours, but this period of time will decrease drastically if you do do one of the things I mentioned.

Overall I really like this Urban Decay Vice Lipstick in the shade Sheer Liar. I think that the colour is absolutely stunning, I like the design of the packaging. I also think that the texture of this lipstick is really nice, it’s incredibly comfortable to wear. Aside from that I also think that it has the right amount of pigmentation and a gorgeous glossy, shiny finish. The only slight downside to this lipstick is the staying power, but because the rest is so amazing I can forget about that!

That’s pretty much it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this lipstick and if you have any experience with the Urban Decay Vice lipsticks!
