Back in November I bought my first ever Urban Decay highlighter. Urban Decay has been one of my favourites brands for years now but somehow I never really tried much of their products aside from their Naked Palettes and eye pencils. Until now. I saw this beautiful Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Highlighter in the shade Sin on sale and I knew I had to have it. Sin is my favourite colour from Urban Decay so this wasn’t just a coincidence. This was a sign. I immediately purchased it and today it’s finally time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out what this highlighter is like, make sure you continue reading this post!
The Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighter comes in a very typical Urban Decay packaging. It’s a very cool and urban looking packaging, which totally matches their vibes. The packaging is silver and shiny and therefore prone to getting dirty finger prints on it. It has the initials of the brand written in it with a little pattern in it. All in all I just think that it looks really cool.
Something that did surprise me about the packaging is the fact that it does feel pretty light. It’s not one of those super luxurious and hefty packagings. It also doesn’t come with a mirror on the inside. On the inside of the lid all you can see is the little raster that you can see through the initials of the brand. I do think that that’s a missed opportunity since I do really appreciate it when products come with mirrors on the inside. However, if that’s the only thing that’s bad about it, I don’t think it’s a big deal at all.
Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter – €31,50
These Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighters obviously come in multiple shades. Like I mentioned just a second ago, Sin is my favourite shade out of the entire Urban Decay collection so therefore I went with the shade Sin. I don’t know what it is about it, but I think that Sin is just everything you need in a shade. It has the right balance of shimmer, champagne and it has exactly the right undertone. This is a classic highlighting shade that, in my opinion, will look on literally everybody. It’s very universal and perfect for everyday. It’s not too cool, not too warm, just perfect.
According to Urban Decay their Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter is different from other highlights. That’s because they took the time to mill the powder as fine as it needs to be. The result of this is a light but luxurious feeling and a super soft creme-like texture. This Afterglow Highlighter is supposed to apply easily and it’s supposed to be nice and blendable. It’s a wearable texture that you can build up. The tiny light reflecting particles in it should give the complexion a perfected look.
I do think that these claims make this sound like a very proper highlighter. One that is made with a lot of thought and passion. This does give me pretty high expectations, which I hoped they would make true.
In general I am really happy with this Afterglow Highlighter. Urban Decay did really live up to what they promised us and I like that a lot. I really don’t like it when a brand makes itself sound super amazing and ends up being pretty shitty. But luckily that isn’t the case with this. This powder is really flippin’ amazing.
The main thing that I love about this highlighter is the formula. Like they said this is a very unique feeling highlighter. It does have this amazing soft feeling texture. It feels very silky and it’s super smooth and almost a bit creamy. Thanks to that it’s super easy to work with. It glides onto the skin and it is in fact really easy to blend. It does apply very seamlessly so you really don’t have to worry about it getting streaky or patchy or anything remotely like that. This is a very well-thought-out product.
As you can tell the Afterglow Powder Highlighter is pretty pigmented. It does add a nice and intense glow to the skin. I however am not someone who loves a ‘blinding’ highlight, so when I first saw this swatch I did get a little scared that it would be too intense for me. After using it a couple of times I luckily realised that it doesn’t have to look super intense on your skin. Like Urban Decay told us in their claims, this highlighter can be build up. You can use it in a natural way, for example by applying it with a fluffy brush like the Real Techniques Setting Brush. That way it still is nice and intense, but in a wearable manner.
On the other hand you can also build it up by going over the area multiple times or by using a more dense brush like the Zoeva Luxe Face Focus Brush. This will create a more blinding effect. Using it with a wet brush will make it even more intense.
In terms of staying power I think this highlighter is pretty amazing. They call it the 8-Hour Powder Highlighter, which already tells us it should at least stay in place for up to 8 hours. I think it does. I have to say that I do like using setting sprays, which also help with the staying power. But on days I didn’t wear setting spray this highlighter still held up the entire day.
All in all I think that the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter is a pretty solid product. I think that the shade Sin is just the most stunning shade ever when you’re talking about highlighter and I love the formula on this highlighter. It’s so soft and so easy to work with. I also love how you can build it up, so this can work for both people who love natural highlights as well as for those who like a more intense one. All in all this is just a really amazing product that is definitely worth the buy!
Thank you guys so much for reading today’s post. I hope you enjoyed it and be sure to let me know what you think of this Urban Decay Afterglow Highlighter in Sin!
