Ever since the beauty community got so big, you hear a lot about a lot of products. There are a lot of brands that are just all the rage right now and a lot of products people go wild for. Because there is so much hype going on these days, I always find it really hard to judge which products are worth it and which aren’t. In this case I try to listen to my gut and my experience. In today’s post I’m going to talk about brands and products that are very, very hyped, but don’t really interest me enough for me to purchase something from. So, if you’re interested in finding out which brands and products I’m talking about, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with the most obvious one. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone on this, but I just don’t think Morphe is all that interesting as a brand. Their palettes remind me too much of the 88 palettes from back in the day and their brushes don’t really make me go crazy either. And you know why that is, because every beauty guru ever on Youtube pushes this brand down your throat.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for Youtubers doing what they do and getting sponsorships and whatever, but Morphe really took it one bridge too far. I have never heard one of those big Youtubers say a bad word about the brand and that’s what makes it a bit unbelievable and unrealistic to me. There isn’t a single brand that doesn’t make mistakes or doesn’t create products that just don’t work for you and therefore I just don’t believe it.
I’m pretty sure that Morphe has plenty of products that are just amazing, but well, because it’s just way too pushed in your face I don’t really care for this brand and I’m pretty sure I won’t be trying anything from them in the near future.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Palettes
Moving on to the eyeshadow palettes that Anastasia Beverly Hills keep launching. In this case it’s not that I hate the brand or have something against it, I do love Anastasia. It’s just that the palettes don’t really feel like they fit my style. They always have too many crazy colours in them for me to think it’s worth spending that amount of money on one of their palettes. I’m sure the quality is amazing and if I did have plenty of money I’d definitely buy one for myself, but I wouldn’t get one now.
Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
Another way too hyped product is the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer. Come on guys, it can’t be THAT amazing? People are going crazy for this stuff and to me it seems a bit too good to be true. Again, I’m sure it’s a nice concealer, but the best in the world? I don’t think so.
I also think that this concealer is way too much and way too heavy for my style. I do like a high coverage concealer to conceal my dark circles, but I don’t want to look like a pancake after my makeup session. Obviously I haven’t tried this product out myself, so maybe it’s actually amazing and maybe I’ll even love it. But from what I’ve seen it doesn’t really interest me.
Another big hype in the beauty community are liquid lipsticks. They have been all the rage for quite some time now and it seems to be a never ending thing. I’ve been waiting for this hype to stop for ages but well, it keeps going. I’m just not a fan of the way liquid lipsticks feel on the lips. I think they are the most uncomfortable things in the world, they make my lips feel like paper. And I can’t seem to understand how someone could be okay with how it feels and just live their day without being incredibly annoyed by the feel of their lips.
I don’t hate the way they look in most cases, and I’ve tried some myself. But I just can’t keep them on for longer than an hour. And on top of that I do like a lipstick with a nice and creamy finish a lot better in terms of looks anyway.
Next up is another brand, Fenty Beauty. Don’t get me wrong I do like the brand. I really love their primer, it’s really good. However, the new collections they’ve launched have been a bit too crazy for me. I mean coloured highlighters and funky lipsticks are all fun and games, but when am I going to wear that kind of a thing? I’m sure the quality is great and if you do like those kinds of colours you do you, but it just isn’t for me anymore.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics
The same thing goes for Jeffree Star. After seeing the series Shane Dawson made about him I do really appreciate Jeffree and I think that he’s a very smart man. I’m sure that his makeup is also as smart as he is and as good as he likes his own makeup to be, but well, the shades are way too out there for me. I might someday try one of the more natural looking highlighters or the lip scrub, but aside from that the collection just ins’t for me. I would die for a nude collection from him though, but I don’t see that happening any time soon!
The last brand I want to talk about is Makeup Revolution. In the budget category this is a pretty popular brand and I do have something against it. The thing with this brand is that they are very well known for just copying other brands. The same goes for I Heart Makeup, which I believe is from the same company. I just don’t think it’s cool to just go ahead and copy another brand. Of course it’s fun to create dupes and that is totally okay. But don’t go too far. I don’t think it’s okay how such a big part of their makeup isn’t unique and just bluntly copied. Some brands spend so much time, effort, money and passion into creating an amazing product. And you just copy that just like that? Nope, can’t relate!
With that being said I think I’ve mentioned all of my current unpopular opinions. I’m pretty sure lots of you will disagree with me and that’s totally okay. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post, and be sure to let me know what your unpopular opinions are!
