I don’t want to be cliché here but honestly, this year has gone by so, so quickly! It honestly still feels like it’s just January, but we’re actually already on the last day of the year. This year has been a pretty dang busy year for me but an exciting one as well. I have tried so many new products and I have fallen in love with so many things this year. Therefore I was extremely excited to finally be able to share all of my favourites of 2017 with you guys in today’s post. So, long story short, if you’re interested in reading which products have become my ultimate favourites of 2017, make sure you continue reading!
To make it a little easier for myself I have decided to divide this post into categories. In every category I have chosen 1 or two products that really stood out for me this year and is worthy of the title ‘Ultimate Favourite of 2017’. Of course there are a lot more products that I absolutely love and adore, but I really wanted to keep it to one or two products per category in order to keep this post brief. So let’s start!
The first category is cleansing. During my trip to Lille I have bought a ton of new cleansing products and therefore I have tried more cleansing products this year than ever before. This did make it difficult for me to really pinpoint which product stood out to me the most, but after thinking about it for a while I came to the conclusion that the Philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser is definitely my ultimate favourite cleanser of 2017. It was definitely a close call, but I do stand behind my decision.
The reason why I think the Philosophy Purity Made Simple is my ultimate favourite is because it’s just a very unique product. It has a different consistency than most cleansers do and this works really well for me. It’s one of the only cleansers out there that doesn’t completely dry out my skin. It actually makes my skin feel nice and hydrated but also fresh and well-cleansed. It also hasn’t broken me out at all, it actually improved the quality of my skin. So overall I definitely think that this product is worthy of the title ‘Ultimate Favourite of 2017’.
Philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser – €24,35
Moving on to the second category: moisturising. Like I said I have tried a ton of cleansers this year, but I have tried a ton of moisturisers as well. This year was all about finding the perfect moisturiser for my skin and I finally managed to find it! I actually found two moisturisers which are both absolutely incredible for my skin and I’ve been using them on a daily basis for ages now. The first one is by Clinique, it’s their Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel. This moisturiser has such a unique consistency and feel and it really does something to my skin no other moisturiser has ever done. This product really does everything right and it’s my go-to moisturiser!
The other moisturiser I have fallen in love with, or better said, fallen back in love with, is the Origins Ginzing Energy Boosting Gel Moisturiser. This is a rediscovery of mine and I’m so glad I did that rediscovery because this is amazing. This moisturiser has the nicest texture ever, it smells amazing and it just works amazing for my skin. It moisturises it but it keeps everything light and oil-free. It really is everything I’m looking for in a moisturiser!
Moving on to the makeup part of this favourites post. This I have divided into multiple categories as well, starting off with base makeup.
The first step in base makeup is primer. This year I have discovered a couple of primers which I’ve fallen in love with big time, but the one that I ended up loving the most is the Clarins Instantly Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base in the pinky tube. I bought this because someone on Youtube recommended it and I couldn’t be happier about that. This really is the perfect base for your makeup.
First of all because it has an amazing consistency. It’s a bit like a lotion but it does feel a bit more hydrating than that. It also feels very soft and smooth but it doesn’t feel like it’s full of silicones. It also smells beautifully and gives my face a gorgeous, even but radiant look. It’s the perfect base for my makeup and this definitely has become a staple of mine. I highly recommend giving it a try!
Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base – €32,50
Moving on to foundation. This year has definitely been the year of the foundations for me, I have tried so many different ones! Therefore it was very difficult for me to choose just one favourite, but I ended up going for the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation because this really is everything I was ever looking for in a foundation. First of all it’s the perfect match for my skin tone. It’s the closest shade to my skin tone that I ever owned.
Aside from that it also has a beautiful texture. It’s quite luidy but still very easy to work with. It’s super quick and easy to apply, it just glides over the skin and that makes it a very effortless foundation. No matter how much or how little time you spend on blending this product into your skin, it will always turn out beautiful. It looks natural, flawless and just flippin’ gorgeous. It really is the best foundation I have tried this year!
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation – €46
My favourite concealer of 2017 is definitely the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. This has been a very popular product for years now and because of that I actually never really felt like trying it. But I’m so glad I decided to do it anyways. It has taken me a while to really realise how amazing this product is an how much I like this better than all of my other concealers, but now that I do know that I really don’t want to stop using it anymore. I recently bought my second tube of it so that does really show how much I love this stuff.
It’s just a perfect all-in-one concealer. It has everything I’m looking for in a concealer and more. The shade is gorgeous, it’s a tad bit lighter than my skin tone and therefore it highlights my under eye area really well. It also has a nice consistency, it isn’t very thin but it’s not too thick either. It blends really nicely and it actually stays in place all day long without creasing. What more can you want from a concealer?
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer – €30
Next up is powder. This wasn’t a very difficult decision for me because this powder really sets itself apart from the rest in my opinion. I’m talking about the RCMA No-Colour Powder. I have been wanting to try this powder for years now and this year I finally got the chance to do so. Because my skin is pretty oily powder is an essential for me and I do go through a lot of it everyday. Because I use so much powder I really appreciate powders that come with a lot of product. This bottle of powder comes with 80 grams so that’s definitely a lot and it has already lasted me a year now and there’s still a lot left.
But it’s not just the fact that this bottle of powder comes with a lot of product. That’s not the only reason why I like it. I also really like the fact that the powder is transparent so it doesn’t alter the shade of the foundation you’re wearing and that it just controls my oil really well without looking very powdery. This powder really is the perfect powder to set your foundation with and definitely a product I’d recommend to everyone who’s struggling with oily skin!
RCMA No-Colour Powder – €15,20
Moving on to the next category: cheeks. First up in cheeks is bronzer. This was a bit of an obvious choice for me since I have been all over this product ever since I bought it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth mentioning. My ultimate favourite bronzer of 2017 is by far my Chanel Les Beiges Poudre Belle Mine Ensoillée. It’s a very luxurious product but also a very pretty one. From the packaging to the product itself, everything about this is just absolutely stunning and you can’t deny that.
Aside from being a very pretty product, this also is a very high-quality product. First of all it comes with a brush that I actually use to apply the product with. It’s a very soft and nicely shaped brush. The powder itself also has an amazing texture. It’s soft, easy to blend and it’s pigmented. It makes my skin look nice and sunkissed without looking fake or over-done. It’s the perfect shade of bronzer for my pale skin tone (this shade is called Medium) and I just love every single thing about this product.
Chanel Les Beiges Poudre Belle Mine Ensoleillée – €51
Moving on to blush. This blush is from a limited edition collection from 2016 and therefore it’s not available anymore, but it’s the blush I’ve used and loved the most throughout 2017 which is why I’m still going to mention it. The blush I’m talking about is the Dior Splendor Blush from the holiday collection of 2016. I really hate the fact that I missed out on the blush from this years holiday collection, but well, better luck next year, right?!
Anyway, this blush is just incredible. It really opened up my eyes when it comes to Dior blushes. I mean the texture of this blush is just incredible. It’s such a smooth and satin-like powder. I really couldn’t comprehend how amazing it felt the first time I touched it. It just feels so luxurious. And this luxurious translates onto your cheeks when you apply it. It really looks like powder made out of satin. It has this satin-like glow and the perfect amount of colour pay off. It’s just luxury in a box!
Dior Splendor 2016 Blush – €47,50
Even though I’m not as big of a highlighter junkie as most beauty lovers were throughout 2017, I did try out a lot of new highlighters this year. My favourite of all is the Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Illuminating Powder Gelée. From the outside it looks like a very summery product, but it’s gorgeous all year round. This is a very pretty, glowy highlighter that is intense but not overly intense. It isn’t a highlighter you have to ‘go to town with’ in order to get that gorgeous intense glow and I love that about it. It’s quick and easy to work with.
I also feel like the shade of this highlighter is very flattering on all skin tones. It’s very forgiving and therefore I think it’s a perfect shade to highlight with. I also love that it’s not a glittery highlighter. It’s more of a glowy product and that makes it much more wearable for everyday. Lastly I also really love how well this stays in place throughout the day. There’s no need to re-apply it at all!
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Illuminating Powder Gelée – €40
Lastly in the cheeks category of this post is contour. I never thought I’d ever include a category like contour in posts like this because I used to never contour, but thanks to the Fenty Beauty Skinstick Contour Stick in the shade Amber I did start to get into contouring. I don’t really know why I bought it because, like I said, I never used to contour, but I’m really happy I did it anyway.
This stick has made contouring so easy for me. The shade is gorgeous, it’s a nice ashy brown shade which is perfect for contouring on pale skin. It also has the perfect amount of colour pay off and it’s incredibly easy to blend. It’s also very soft and natural looking and it just adds a nice and defined look to my face. I can’t really describe in words how pretty this looks on the skin but I can tell you that I love it!
Fenty Beauty Skinstick Contour Stick – €24
Moving on to the next category which is eyes. Starting off which eyeshadow palettes. I have to admit that both of these palettes were my favourites last year as well, but I just can’t stop loving them. My first ultimate favourite palette is the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom Eyeshadow Palette. This palette just has all the right shades in there for my perfect everyday look. The shadows are also very pigmented, easy to blend and overall just really nice to work with. I absolutely love this palette and I’d definitely repurchase it if I ever run out of my favourite shades.
Another palette I would repurchase is the Stila Eyes Are The Window Palette. This has been a staple of mine for years now and that’s all because of how perfect it is. This is the perfect palette for an effortless everyday look, but also for a smokey evening look. It’s the palette I always gravitate towards whenever I’m not sure what to do with my eyeshadow that day and it has never disappointed me.
The second category within the category eyes is mascara. Mascara is a product I find very essential in a makeup look and therefore I find it very important to use a proper mascara. One that really does something for your eyes. This year I have discovered two of those perfect mascaras. The first one is by MAC. It’s their Pro Beyond Twisted Lash Mascara. This has a very unique, slim wand and therefore this is the perfect mascara to use as a base. It separates the lashes really well and it lengthens them. It also adds a bit of volume but not too much.
The other favourite is the Lancome Grandiose Mascara. This is just the perfect all-in-one mascara. It does everything you want a mascara to do and more. It’s separating, lengthening, volumising and it stays put all day. It also doesn’t dry out after a while and it doesn’t flake off your lashes throughout the day. This is by far my favourite mascara and definitely an essential in my makeup bag!
Next up is lipstick. I have tried and tested a ton of lipsticks throughout the year, but these two are definitely my most used and most loved ones. First up is one by Yves Saint Laurent. It’s their Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in the shade Beige Blouse. It was my first YSL lipstick ever and one of my first luxurious lipsticks. It really opened up the world of luxury lipsticks for me. The texture of this lipstick is so incredible. It’s soft, it’s rich and it’s super comfortable to wear. The shade is just stunning. It’s the perfect everyday neutral colour and I love wearing it.
My other lipstick favourite is the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in the shade 54 Boy. I always wanted to try a lipstick from this range and I haven’t regretted doing it at all. This is the perfect lipstick for me. The shade is wearable but a little more fun than just a basic nude and the lipstick is very lightweight and comfortable to wear. It feels moisturising on the lips and overall just very comfortable. I’ve used this a ton!
So, let’s talk perfume for a little bit. The past two months I’ve been trying out a ton of new perfumes so both of the perfumes I’m showing you today haven’t been my favourites for that long, but I love them so much I decided they deserved the title of ‘Ultimate Favourite’ anyway. The first favourite is Gabrielle Chanel. I bought this because of a friend of mine and I absolutely adore it. It’s the most luxurious, feminine and unique scent I have ever smelled and it makes me feel very sophisticated. It was a big splurge for me, but I am glad that I did it because it literally is one of the best smelling things in the whole entire world.
The other favourite is by Yves Saint Laurent. It’s their Black Opium perfume. When I first got it I didn’t really know whether I should feel disappointed or happy, but after wearing it for the first time I knew I loved it. I have been wearing it almost every single day ever since. It’s a very fresh, fruity and sweet scent but not in a cheap way at all. It’s strong enough for you to smell it all day long but it’s not too intense. It’s just the perfect daytime perfume for everyday and I love, love, love it!
Last up is my body care favourite. I share a lot of my love for makeup on this blog, but body care not so much. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t love body care products. I actually have a ton of favourites in that department. But because this post is lengthy enough as it is, I narrowed it down to just one product, the Caudalie Thé Des Vignes Shower Gel. I bought this back in Lille during my trip there with my mom and I had no idea at all that I was going to fall in love with this shower gel so hard.
This is literally the best smelling shower gel in the whole wide world, I’m not exaggerating here girls. It really is. It’s such a feminine and luxury scent. It’s also quite strong so it’s definitely a scent that is going to linger. And to top that all off it also does a great job at cleansing my body. I love this shower gel so, so much!
Caudalie The Des Vignes Shower Gel – €10,95
And that’s it for my Ultimate Favourites of 2017. It was a very lengthy post, I’m sorry for that, but I hope you enjoyed reading it anyways and be sure to let me know which products are your ultimate favourites of 2017! Happy new year everybody, and enjoy your new years’ parties!
