Exactly one month ago I went birthday shopping with my very best friend. One thing I had on my wishlist was the Banana Conditioner from The Body Shop. I thought that’s what I picked up, but when I was using it for the first time I found out that that wasn’t the case. I accidentally picked up the The Body Shop Banana Shampoo instead. After finding out about that I started using it as a shampoo and today I think it’s the right time to review it. If you’re interested in finding out how I ended up liking the surprising The Body Shop Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo, make sure you continue reading this post!
The TBS Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo comes in a very typical Body Shop packaging. A packaging that I really like the look of. It’s a very nicely shaped clear bottle with a black cap. On the front it has a yellow sticker with some essential information about the product on it. Essential information that I forgot to read at the moment of purchasing this product hihi. Anyway, through the bottle you can see the product that is inside. I really like that. It allows you to keep track of how much is left in it and I also think that it looks really pretty. I like the yellow colour of the product a lot and I think it compliments the black in the packaging really well.
The packaging comes in different sizes. There are actually 3 options out there for you. You can go for the mini, which comes with 60 ml. That one costs 3 Euro’s. You can go for the one in the middle, which is what I did. This one comes with 250 ml and costs 7 Euro’s. If you’re a really big fan of it there’s also the big size that comes with 400 ml and costs 10 Euro’s. I think all three sizes are priced very decently. I like that there’s an option to buy a really big one if you know you’re a big fan and I also like that they have a mini one for travelling and such.
Having discussed that, let’s start talking about the product itself. According to The Body Shop their Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo is enriched with real banana puree. They say that it’s a cleansing shampoo that can be used daily to cleanse the hair, leaving you with beautiful results. It’s aimed at normal to dry hair and leaves the hair nourished, fragrant and feeling softer. It’s 100% vegetarian and formulated without silicones.

Those who know me, know that the fact that it’s silicone-free is a big deal to me. This means that, even though it’s a moisturising product, it’s not going to make my hair feel or look greasy. I also really like the fact that this is such a nourishing shampoo. The only thing I was on the fence about is the scent. That because I don’t really want my hair to smell like banana in an obvious way.
After trying it for a while now I have noticed that this is definitely a very nourishing shampoo. I have really fine hair that gets greasy really easily so for me this isn’t something to use on a daily basis. I do like using it twice or trice a week to give my hair a little pick-me-up though. It is definitely like a treatment for me. I notice that it makes my hair super soft and silky and that even the ends of my hair aren’t dry after using it. That’s something that hardly ever happens to me. It also doesn’t leave my hair feeling heavy or looking greasy, which is something that surprised me. Most hydrating shampoo’s are too much for my hair, but this is one my hair can handle. So if you have fine hair that has been damaged, this might be a great option for you.
If I use this a couple of days in a row I do notice that it’s starting to build up. You know there are some hydrating haircare products and some cleansing. This one definitely cleanses it, but not in a serious cleansing way like other shampoo’s can. So when I don’t use a cleansing shampoo in between using this shampoo I feel like there’s a bit too much build-up in my hair. It needs to be properly cleansed. Therefore I’m not one to use this shampoo on a daily basis.
In terms of scent I’m really happy about this product. It does smell of bananas and it’s not super mild, but it doesn’t linger in a very obvious way. It’s not like I smell of banana’s all day long after using it, which is what I was scared of.
All in all I think that the The Body Shop Truly Nourishing Banana Shampoo is a really nice product. It’s a very hydrating shampoo that is great for days when my hair needs a bit extra. It’s silicone free and doesn’t weigh my fine, greasy hair down. It doesn’t even make my hair look or feel greasy at all. In terms of really deep-cleansing the hair I don’t think this product is the way to go. But in my opinion you should alter between really cleansing and nourishing shampoo’s within the week. Both are important! Anyway, if you do have damaged or dry hair this is a great product. Especially if you have fine hair like me that normally can’t handle hydrating products, this might be worth the try for you!
That will be it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and be sure to let me know if you have any experience with the haircare products from The Body Shop and if so, let me know how you like them!
