During this heatwave, but also during the rest of the year, wearing SPF is extremely important. Back in the day I never really realised how important it is, but after watching some videos on it and reading about it for a bit I’ve come around. Since two years I’ve been pretty consistent when it comes to using SPF and I’ve tried quite a few products here and there. Today I’m going to review all of my sunscreen products that have been using this year. If you’re interested in finding out what’s good, what’s not and what about it makes a product good or bad, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with two very budget friendly options. I bought these at the DM Drogerie in Germany. These are from their own brand and therefore very cheap. To be honest, sunscreen in general is a lot cheaper in Germany compared to the Netherlands. So if you live near Germany, you should definitely pick up your sunscreen there!
Anyway, I have a tube with SPF30 and one with SPF50. I normally always go for SPF50 because I think it’s extremely important to make sure you’re well protected. You know, my skin doesn’t tan. I also don’t burn that easily, but I just don’t want to end up like a wrinkled old sun-lady, looking like a roasted chicken. However, I do think that SPF30 is great for spring and autumn, when the sun isn’t as out there compared to the summer, but you still want to protect yourself.
What I like about these sunscreens is the scent of them. They smell really nice and the scent is quite strong so you do smell it pretty much the entire time. I’m a big fan of the scent so in my book that’s a very positive thing. However, if you don’t like the scent of sunscreen, this might put you off.
I also love that this sunscreen is quite hydrating. It’s a rather thick and creamy formula and that does feel very nice on the skin. Especially if you have rather dry skin that can be very nice. On the other side, this also forms the minor downside of the product. That is that this sunscreen does leave a bit of a greasy layer. After putting it on once it doesn’t really bother me, but if you re-apply it throughout the day it can be a little bit annoying.
Sun Dance Sonnen Creme 100 ml – SPF 30 €1,95/ SPF50 €2,45
Moving on to a more fancy one. I bought this when it was on sale a while ago. It’s the Biotherm Lait Solaire Hydratant Face & Body with SPF50. This is a huge bottle of amazing smelling and feeling sunscreen. It isn’t the most handy packaging for on the go, I do have to admit that, but I do really like having it. It will last me all summer long.
Anyway, this sunscreen also has a nice scent, but it isn’t like your typical sunscreen smell. It’s a bit more citrussy and fresh. I do like that it’s different, although I don’t hate the regular sunscreen scent. In texture it’s also a lot more liquid than the Sun Dance sunscreen is. Thanks to this is does spread more easily across the skin and it does sink in more quickly. However, it still does have a bit of that sticky feel. That sticky feel is way less bothering in this sunscreen than it is in the Sun Dance sunscreen though.
Aside from the fact that this sunscreen is more comfortable to wear and easier to apply, it also has another difference. And that is that you can use this on your face as well. I personally don’t use this particular sunscreen on my face. I prefer the one I’m going to talk about in a second, but I do think that it’s a good thing that this is appropriate for the face. This means you don’t have to buy a separate sunscreen.
Biotherm Lait Solaire Hydratant Face & Body SPF50 400 ml – €36,50
Moving on to the face sunscreen I was talking about earlier. This is the Biodermal Mattifying Sun Fluid For Face with, again, SPF50. This is a smaller packaging than the previous two because it is made for your face only, so you need less of it. I’m almost starting my second tube of it and I’ve been using it daily for over a year, so it does definitely last a long time!
I don’t really know how I stumbled upon this product again, but it is amazing. It’s mattifying, thanks to which you won’t end up looking extremely greasy when you’re wearing it. I used to be really scared of wearing sunscreen on my face because I thought it would make me look really oily and break me out. But it doesn’t. It doesn’t break me out at all actually. It has never broken me out so far so that’s a very positive thing.
Texture-wise it’s a really nice product as well. It’s quite liquidy and it is easy to apply. It does have a bit of that sticky feel that all sunscreens have to it, but that feeling does fade quickly. I usually use this product underneath my makeup, and in that case the slightly sticky feel is actually a good thing. It makes your makeup stick to it and therefore it will stay in place for a long, long time!
Overall this is a really great sunscreen and skincare product all in one. It’s the perfect product to use underneath your makeup. It makes it stay in place all day, it doesn’t break me out and it doesn’t make me look greasy at all. I really like it.
Biodermal Mattifying Sun Fluid For Face SPF40 40 ml – €20
And that’s it for my SPF review. I know it might not be as big as it sounded like in the title, but to be honest I did think I had more SPF products in my collection. Anyway, all in all I really like all four products. For the face I do prefer my Biodermal and for the rest of my body I like the texture of the Biotherm one and the scent of the Sun Dance ones. I also have a ton of experience with the Nivea Sunscreens, which are absolutely incredible as well, but I don’t have one of those in my collection right now.
So, that’s pretty much it for todays post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know which sunscreens you like to use and whether or not you use the same product for your face and body.
