It’s officially summer right now and that means it’s time to get that summer makeup out of those makeup drawers and our summer clothes out of the back of our closets. Since I’m more of a makeup junkie than I am a fashion junkie I am going to focus on makeup today, but I have been getting more and more into fashion lately so I might just start posting things about that too sometime soon. Anyway, today I’m going to show you which makeup and beauty products are essential for me when it’s hot outside. If you’re interested in finding out, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with the most important thing: sunscreen. When it’s hot outside I’ll definitely protect my skin with a proper sunscreen. My favourite is the Biodermal Mattifying Sun Fluid with SPF50. This isn’t just a protective fluid, it’s also very hydrating but also mattifying and it acts and an a-ma-zing primer. Literally amazing. With this on your face the heat won’t stand a chance. Your makeup won’t budge all day!
Along with a good sunscreen I also think it’s important to wear a good moisturiser during the warmer days. Even though you might feel like moisturiser is the last thing you need during these times, especially if you have oily skin, you do. But you do need something lightweight and thin. My personal favourite is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel. This one is very thin and incredibly lightweight but it does do the job of hydrating your skin.
When that’s on I move on to foundation. When it’s hot outside I opt for something very thin and lightweight. My current favourite thin and lightweight foundations are the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet foundation and the The Ordinary Serum foundation. Both of them have an incredibly nice and thin formula you just don’t feel them on your skin. But even though they are very thin and lightweight, they do provide enough coverage to cover up any imperfection you want.
Aside from being nice and thin I also think these foundations hold up really well in heat. Especially the Chanel foundation is a firefighter. It doesn’t budge at all. Once it’s on your skin it starts to act like skin and it just won’t even more. I think that’s a quality you should look for in a summer proof foundation.
Another face product I just can’t go without is a good highlighter. Especially during the summertime. I mean, highlighters look their best when there’s direct light shining on them. In other words, highlighters look their best during summertime. The one I use the most, and the one I have been using the most for ages, is the Dior Nude Air Lumiziner. I’ve been in love with it since the day I got it and I can’t imagine going without it anymore. It’s the most wonderful and gorgeous thing I own and I absolutely love it!
The last face product I’m going to mention, or actually the last face products I’m going to mention, are these setting sprays. I absolutely love setting spray but during the warmer days it’s definitely an essential. The Urban Decay Deslick is my favourite if I really want to make sure my makeup stays in place all day, but for a refreshing feel and a bit more dewiness I like my Caudalie Beauty Elixer and my new Monuskin Rosewood Reviving Mist. They feel so, so, so amazing on the skin!
Moving on to the eyes and the eyebrows. When it’s hot and I really want to make sure my eyebrows go no where I use my beloved Benefit Goof Proof brow pencil. The past couple of months I’ve been using my IT Cosmetics Brow Power pencil a lot, but that definitely doesn’t beat the Benefit Goof Proof pencil, especially not when it comes to staying power. So if I really need it to stay put, that’s what I’m using.
To make sure my eyeshadow goes nowhere I use my Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze. I have to say that I don’t go a day without this product on my eyes, I never do eyeshadow without it, but especially when it’s hot outside I think this is an important product to use. You don’t want your hard worked on eyeshadow creation to melt like an ice cube right?!
When it comes to lips I prefer to keep them as simple as possible. When it’s hot I tend to drink a lot so I want to keep my lips clear for that. If I do decide to use something on my lips it’s probably something like a tinted lip balm or my beloved YSL Rouge Volupte lipstick in Beige Blouse or my MAC Patent Polish in Spontaneous. But if I’m not wearing that, I’m wearing nothing!
My last summer essential is a bit of bronzer. I don’t have the ability to tan so bronzer is definitely a must for me to keep me looking a little more healthy. For bronzer I usually opt for my Benefit Hoola Bronzer, but I also like to sculpt my face with the NYX HD Blush in Taupe which also makes me look a little more tanned.
With that being said I think it’s time to bring this post to an end. Thank you so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what your essentials are for the summer and especially for hot weather!
XOXO, Nicole.
