Back when Smashbox first came to the Netherlands people were going crazy about the Photo Finish Primer. According to the beauty community it was one of the best primers ever and it was definitely worth the try. A million years later I finally decided to give it a try. I did end up buying a little mini one just to see if I like it and today I’m going to review it. If you’re interested in finding out more, make sure you continue reading!
The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer comes in a little black box with a picture of the tube printed on the front. It looks very sleek and professional and exactly like a packaging I would expect from Smashbox. I like it. I like how simple but classic they kept it and overall I think it’s just a very practical and hygienic packaging.
Like I said I bought a little mini size of this primer. I did that because I didn’t want to waste almost 34 Euro’s on something I might not even like. I really like the fact that Smashbox creates these mini’s. They’re still not cheap but it does allow you to try out a product before you buy a full size of it.
The Smashbox primers are quite popular because they seem to do exactly what they promise. This one in particular is supposed to make your makeup look better and stay in place all day. It also promises to blur fine lines and pores and it should leave your skin feeling velvety.
I’m always a bit skeptical when it comes to pore minimizing products, I just don’t believe products can actually do that. I do have quite large pores, especially on and around my nose and on my cheeks and I’d love them to look a little less obvious. This product does do that for me. It definitely doesn’t do wonders, but it’s the best a product has ever done for me.
The texture of the product is pretty silicony and I usually don’t really like that. It’s really just personal preference so the fact that I’m not a fan of the texture don’t mean anything really. I do like the way it smears out and blends into the skin though. It doesn’t get flakey or anything like that and it doesn’t feel greasy. It does actually create that velvety finish Smashbox promised us and I do like that!
When it comes to making your makeup stay in place longer I do think it works but I’m not certain. I do always use a primer but to be real honest here I never really know if it really makes a difference when it comes to making your makeup long lasting. As long as it doesn’t make anything worse, which this one doesn’t, I’m okay with it.
So overall I do think this Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is a great product. It does minimise my pores and it creates a great base for my makeup. I don’t think it’s an essential and I do use it in combination with my beloved Nivea After Shave Balm, but I do really like having it.
The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer is available at Douglas for €16,50 (15ml) and €33,50 (30ml).
That was it for today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know which primer you use!
XOXO, Nicole.
