I think most of you have noticed that recently I’ve been all about discovering more luxurious brands. It’s something I have always dreamed of doing when I was younger, so once I was able to do so I went a little nuts. But recently I felt like I have discovered more than enough and I was ready for a budget proof testing and trying session. I ended up ordering a mascara from a brand I used to love back in the day, Sleek. So, in today’s post I’m going to review this really good looking Sleek Lethal Length Mascara and I’ll let you know whether or not it’s as good as my more luxurious favourites. So, if you want to read about that and a lot more, make sure you continue reading this post!
Let’s start off by discussing the packaging of this mascara. The Sleek Lethal Length Mascara comes in a black box. I know that this is unnecessary packaging and not great for the environment, but I do like the feel of it. It makes it look more luxurious. When you open up the box the tube comes out. The mascara comes in a fully black round tube. It’s not extremely long or slim, it’s actually pretty regular. You might even describe it as basic. The only decoration found on the tube is the name Sleek printed on it in shiny black letters and on the other side they printed the name of their website on it in similar coloured letters. These letters are hard to find on there, you can only see them if there’s some kind of light shining on the tube.
Overall I do not love the packaging but I don’t hate it either. What I love about it is the fact that they kept it simple, chic and professional. I do definitely think that this is a very professional looking packaging and you guys know that I dig that kind of look. However, I would’ve liked it if the name of the brand and maybe the name of this mascara was printed on it in a more easy to read kind of way. Not just because of the looks, but it would also be pretty nice to know which mascara you’re dealing with if you have a few different kinds of Sleek mascara’s in your collection.

Having discussed the packaging, let’s start talking about the wand. The wand of the Sleek Lethal Length Mascara is more unique than I thought it would be. It’s one of those spiky brushes, which I love. But instead of being spikey and just that, it has a special side to it. The special thing is that on one side of the brush the bristles are long and on the other side they are somewhat shorter. It’s not something completely new, but I haven’t seen it before all that often.
According to Sleek the short bristles are designed to curl the lashes and the long bristles will fan out the lashes to get a beautiful look without clumps or flakes. In my experience the short bristles are also great for coating the bottom lashes, since the long side would be way too long for that. They also say that the wand is flexible and that it will create a great look without clumps or flakes. At least the flexible part of that is true. The first time I used it, I wanted to put the wand back into the tube and I did it using only one hand. This resulted in the mascara flying across the room. So be sure to hold the tube when you’re putting the wand back in, or you’ll fire it off. And that is a little messy.
Aside from that I don’t think that the flexibility of the wand adds anything to the mascara or the overall experience at all. It doesn’t really change anything for me. The fact that it has long and short bristles is kind of interesting and that does actually make a difference in the finished look. But aside from that it’s all pretty basic. It’s not a mind blowing revolutionary wand. But then again, it’s better to copy well than to invent poorly. I don’t know if that’s a saying in English too. Probably not. But well, there you go.
All in all this mascara is aiming to be a lengthening and separating mascara. It’s supposed to create a clump free long look. I normally do like to go for volume in mascara’s, so this isn’t totally up my alley. That’s also the reason why I wasn’t all that impressed by it the very first time I used it. I was expecting some big voluminous look and obviously that wasn’t what I got. It doesn’t claim to give you that, so it’s totally okay. However, I did think it would be worth mentioning.
The formula of the mascara is surprisingly nice. It’s not very sticky, watery or anything like that. It just goes onto the lashes like any nice mascara does and it dries up. After a couple of hours my lashes did start to feel rather soft, which somehow just isn’t my favourite feel. But when I looked in the mirror I did still think that most of the mascara was still there and it hadn’t lost much of its intensity. So the fact that my lashes didn’t feel rock hard doesn’t have anything to do with the lasting power.
Moving on to the results. Or the effect. Whatever you like to call it. This is what this mascara looks like on my eyes. As you can tell the mascara actually does an absolutely incredible job at lengthening my lashes. My lashes look a lot longer and more defined in the after shots. I know that these aren’t the most high quality pictures you have ever seen. I’m not that good at taking proper lash-pictures. But I think they really do bring the message across.
Like I said this is mainly a lengthening mascara and it doesn’t claim to be voluminous. And therefore it isn’t impressively volumising. However, I do think that this mascara adds more depth and a little bit more drama to the lashes. It is a good look. And like they promised, it did it without clumps or flakes. So that’s really nice too.
If you really do want to take it to the next level in terms of volume, I would suggest you just add a coat of a volumising mascara on top and then you’re good to go. But without that layer I also think it’s a great look. Especially for wearing it on a daily basis. It’s really nice and natural, yet very defined and pretty.
Overall the Sleek Lethal Length Mascara did impress me quite a bit. I haven’t given more affordable mascara’s a try lately but this made me realise that I should. This mascara really has a lot to offer. It doesn’t claim much, but it does what it claims. It’s very lengthening and it creates a really pretty defined look. It’s great at separating the lashes and it has a nice wand that is easy to work with. All in all I do think we have a budget topper. Especially for those who love a natural yet long lash, this is really, really amazing and definitely worth the try!
With that being said I think I’ve mentioned everything I wanted to. Thank you so much for reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what you think of the mascara and whether or not you’d give it a try!
