Ever since I bought my first ever luxury makeup item I’ve been in love with luxury makeup. I don’t know how it happened, but somehow I just fell in love with it. From the luxurious feel to the stunning packaging to the beautiful and unique product that is inside, I love everything about it. The only downside to loving luxury makeup is the fact that it’s, most of the time, extremely expensive. And I’m still in school which means that I’m not the richest person in the world. I do have a job on the weekends but obviously that isn’t enough to pay for all of the luxury makeup products I might want. However, I do still manage to get my hands on quite a lot of these items without going crazy on a credit card or whatever. Therefore I thought it might be fun to share some of my tips with you guys on how to get luxury makeup for less!
1. Know your sales
First of all you should really get to know your stores and what kind of sales they have. If you know that, you can plan when you’re going to buy a product based on that knowledge. For example: I know that Ici Paris XL has a 30/40% discount on all lipstick every so often. They have it about 4/5 times a year and sometimes even more often than that. Because I know that I hold off on buying lipsticks I know they sell at Ici Paris and wait until that deal comes around the corner.
I know this seems like a very weird and logical tip, however, I’m sure that lots of people don’t actually use this tip. I know for a fact that most of my friends just go to the store and buy the thing they want not thinking about when it could go on sale at all. Or they think that 10% is a great deal, while they do have much better deals very often as well. So just know your sales, know what’s a good discount and know what’s not. That will help you out a lot!
2. Discount codes
Another one of my favourite ways to get my luxury items for less is by using discount codes. Thanks to this little trick I have once bought a Dior foundation for just a tenner and I have bought 3 luxury items for only €60, while the full price of one of these three items already was 60 bucks. And yes I know you might think that this isn’t always possible and partly you are correct. But trust me, when you put in some effort to google for coupon codes, most of the time you will find something. Something big or something small, anything can help.
Sometimes you find these codes that give you, for example, €20 off when you spend €60 and the only product you want is well, let’s say €50. It will be cheaper if you find something that costs €10 and use the code, because that will result in €40, than if you just buy the thing that costs €50. This is another very simple trick, but again, not a lot of people do it.
3. Gift sets
My next tip is to buy things in gift sets. More often than not, gift sets contain quite a lot of products for a way better price than it would be if you were to buy the products individually. Of course not everything comes in a gift set, but if you do happen to stumble upon one of the products you’re eyeing or one of your favourite products that you keep repurchasing anyway, buy that instead of the individual item. Sometimes these gift sets do contain a couple of full size products, this is when they are usually a bit more expensive. If that’s the case you should keep in mind whether or not you’ll use the other products in the set. If there’s only one product in the set you’re going to use it will still be a waste of money, but if there are multiple products in there you’re thinking of buying anyway, go for it!
Sometimes these gift sets come with one full size product along with a couple of mini products from the same brand. Often this set is the same price as the individual product so that’s always a win. It even allows you to try out some new stuff!
4. Know when to buy
Throughout the year there are about two moments when most stores are having their best deals. This in January, right after the holidays. This is a great time to score advent calendars and left over gift sets for a way better price than you would have if you bought them before the holidays. And the other moment is somewhere around July. This is the summer clearance. I have to admit that makeup wise the January sale is a lot better, but in July you can definitely get some great deals as well.
So if you’re aware of the fact that you want to buy a product that could go on sale during one of these two sale periods, or it’s almost January/July, just wait for it to go on sale!
And well, that’s pretty much it for my tips on how to score luxury makeup for less. Of course these are some very basic tips, but I still think that not enough people know and use these tips, which is why I felt like sharing them anyway. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post and be sure to let me know what your shopping hacks are!
