Shaving With A Ladyshave: The Philips Satinshave Advanced Ladyshave

19/06/2017

Recently my mother introduced me to shaving with a ladyshave. She’s been using a little machine like that for years and it wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago that I realised that a ladyshave is actually genius. I’m probably the worst shaver alive. I hardly ever shave my legs because I think it’s too much of a hustle and whenever I do shave them I end up with wounds all over my legs. Therefore I decided to buy a ladyshave myself, the Philips Satinshave Advanced Ladyshave, and today I’m going to tell you how I like it and what shaving with a ladyshave is like. If you’re interested in finding out more about this handy machine, make sure you continue reading!

Let’s just start off by briefly explaining the concept of a ladyshave. We all know the traditional shaving machine for men that they use to shave their beards with and stuff. Well, this is a pretty similar thing but it’s especially made for women. And instead of shaving your beard with it, it’s meant for shaving your legs, armpits and even your private area.

There are many different kinds of ladyshaves out there with different shapes and forms. Some look like regular razors but with a slightly different mechanism and some have a completely different shape and look very advanced. The more advanced looking ones are a little easier to work with, but those more basic versions work perfectly fine too.

Philips Satinshave Advanced Ladyshave – €55

The one I got is called the Philips Satinshave Advanced Ladyshave. It’s a four piece set that comes with the machine itself, a special tool for trimming your bikini line, a extra tool for trimming, a little scraper thingy that helps to put the hairs in the right direction and it also comes with a little bag to store it in and a small brush to clean the machine with. Overall it’s a very complete set that basically contains everything you need when you’re going to shave yourself with a ladyshave.

This particular ladyshave has quite a few specs that made me decide to buy it. One of those specs is that it can be used wet and dry. So you can use it underneath the shower, but also in any other area of your house without having to wet your legs (or other areas you want to shave using it).

It also charges very quickly. It only takes 5 minutes of charging for the machine to have enough battery life for one round of shaving. However it does take 8 hours for it to be fully charged according to the site. I have to say that I have charged it once so far and it definitely didn’t take 8 hours, but okay.

Moving on to the interesting part. How does it work, how close of a shave do you get, can you get cuts from it and is it worth the investment. Let’s start off with the first part of this question and move our way to the last part, shall we? So, how does it work. It’s fairly simple. You just turn it on by pushing the button and you move it over your legs, arms and any other areas you want to shave. Aside from that you don’t have to do anything at all, the machine does the rest for you.

Something lot’s of people expect is that with a ladyshave you can’t get a close shave. Well, that’s not true at all. It might depend on the machine you have and the quality of it, but mine gives me an awfully close shave. A lot closer than my disposable razors ever could.

When I first started using this machine I was scared I would cut myself with it anyway. Therefore I was very cautious and very, very tense. But turns out,  there is literally no way you can cut yourself with this machine. There aren’t any sharp edges or anything like that on the outside. On the outside it’s just a metal cap with little holes in it. So no, you can’t cut yourself with it. I mean never say never, but I don’t think it’s something you should be scared of.

Having said that let’s talk about whether it’s worth getting or not. A ladyshave isn’t the cheapest shaving-utensil. However, if you look at it differently it can actually save a lot of money. If you use disposable razors or those Venus things that you have to get rid of every so often, you have to buy quite a lot of them throughout the year and those razors aren’t that cheap. Also, if you shave using a razor you also have to buy shaving cream. With a lady shave you don’t. So yes, when you purchase it it might seem expensive compared to that 3-pack of razors you always get at the drugstore, but in the long run buying a ladyshave will save you a lot of money.

But that wasn’t necessarily the question. The question is: is a ladyshave worth spending your money on. In my opinion it is. But I say that because I’m a very clumsy person. Working with razors is actually quite dangerous for me. Once I even shaved off half of my nail trying to shave my legs. So if you’re clumsy just like me, this is 11101000% worth it, without a doubt.

If you do care about the environment or just don’t like to buy millions of razors throughout your life, buying a ladyshave is a great option for you too. It’s something you have to buy once and it will last you ages.

However, if you’re someone who just likes shaving with a razor or someone who doesn’t even shave but uses another method of removing body hair, this might not be something for you. If you’re finding yourself within that category, a ladyshave just isn’t what you’re looking for.

But overall I’m really glad I ended up buying a ladyshave. I haven’t had a single shaving wound since and it’s not as much of a hustle to go ahead and shave my legs now. Aside from that I’m glad I don’t have to go ahead and buy razors and shaving cream all the time because that does save a lot of money too.

And that concludes today’s post. Thank you so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of shaving with a ladyshave and als let me know how you remove your body hair!

XOXO, Nicole.
