Set Those Brows: L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper & Rimmel Brow This Way Gel

10/05/2018

A while ago I was on the hunt for a great new brow gel. I was running out of my favourite Inglot Brow Setting Gel and I needed something new. I ended up ordering two options. One by L’Oreal, their Brow Artist Plumper, and one by Rimmel, their Brow This Way Gel. I’ve been trying them out for a while now and therefore I felt like today was a great day to review the both of them. So, if you’re on the hunt for a new brow gel and want to know whether either one of these two are any good or not, you might want to make sure you continue reading this post!

I have to admit that currently I’m all about the clear brow setting gels, but back when I bought these two I was all about brow setting gels with a nice tint to them. Since I have brow hair I decided to go for the medium brown colour in these brow gels. Tinted brow gels are great for adding that finishing touch to the brow look. They really complete the look and add that extra bit of colour to the brows. They are also great on days when you want to keep your brow look very natural. On those days you can use them on their own, without using any other brow product first, and it will add some definition and depth to your brow look, without them looking too drawn-on.

However, tinted brow gels can also be a little over the top. Sometimes, and I hope I’m not the only one who experiences this more often than I wish to, my brows are a little over the top. A bit too strong and dark. If you top it off with a tinted brow gel, it can make it even more extreme and dark. Therefore I nowadays like to play it safe and use a clear brow gel. But I can still appreciated tinted ones like this.

With that being said, let’s start talking about the actual products shall we? The first product I’m going to discuss is the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper in the shade Dark Medium, which was the shade that came closest to my natural brow colour. It comes in a long, slim tube with a long, slim wand. The wand itself is pretty small and I like that about it. It allows you to work very precisely with it and it allows you to really be in control over what’s going to happen with the product.

In terms of adding definition to the brows I think that this L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper is a great product. It really adds some colour to your brows which makes it look like you have thicker, more filled in brows that you actually have. The gel is quite pigmented but not too pigmented in my opinion, which makes it easy to work with. It also dries up matte which adds to the natural look that it provides. It also is a very long lasting product.

In terms of setting the brows into place and keeping them in that same position all day long I think that this is quite an amazing product. Because it sort of dries down it really sets the brow hairs. It’s not as soft as a formula as the next brow gel I’m going to discuss is, thanks to which it is better at keeping my hairs into place. I like that about it.

L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper – €8,45

Moving on to the Rimmel Brow This Way Gel in the shade Mid Brown. In terms of looks and packaging this is very different from the L’Oreal gel. It comes in a short, more thick bottle and it comes with a longer wand. This wand is more like regular mascara wands and therefore it doesn’t allow you to have as much of control as you could have with the L’Oreal one, but it does work quicker. It also differs quite a bit in shade from the L’Oreal gel. Even though both are dark/medium brown colours the Rimmel one is much lighter than the L’Oreal one is. Therefore this one is better for days where your brows already are quite strong.

In terms of adding colour and definition I think I like this one a little less than the L’Oreal one. Mainly because this one is less easy to apply and I struggle with it way more. I always get the colour everywhere but in my brows and therefore the completed look is a bit messy. I know that that’s not the fault of the formula or the colour of the product itself, but even if it were a great product for adding definition, if the wand doesn’t allow you to create that look, it’s still not a very amazing product.

Also the setting-factor of this brow gel is way less impressive than the L’Oreal one. This is more of a soft finish product, which means that it dries down feeling soft and still moveable. My brows feel more like natural hair and even though that does create a more natural look, it does mean that my brows won’t stay in place as well. Since I have pretty thick and heavy brow hairs this isn’t a match for me, however, if you do have easy brows this could be great for you.

Rimmel Brow This Way Gel – €5,45

Overall the L’Oreal Brow Artist Plumper works a little better for me. It’s more precise, it’s better at setting my brows into place and it’s just not as messy. However, the Rimmel Brow This Way Gel does match my brows better in terms of shade and it creates a more natural result. So all together it just really depends on what you are looking for and what your brows are like.

That’s pretty much it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know which products you use to define your brows and set them into place!
