The Secret To Waking Up: Philips Wake Up Light

15/01/2017

Like most other students, I’m always tired. Literally always. No matter how much I sleep, when I wake up, I’m tired. Because being tired isn’t really nice I tried so many things to not be tired. I used apps, I drank lots of water before I went to bed, you name it. Sadly non of that worked. However, recently I discovered something. I discovered the first thing in this world that allows me to wake up feeling refreshed and well rested. It’s the Philips Wake Up Light. Because I’m so impressed by its effects I decided to write about it today. If you’re curious to find out what it is and how it works, make sure you continue reading!

There are quite a lot of versions of the Wake Up Light available on the market. I honestly have no clue what the difference is between most of them, so I decided to just choose one and get that. I ended up getting the HF3506/50. This one is, like most other Wake Up lights, circular and has a rose gold/copper back.

I expected the light to be quite heavy and big, but once I received it I quickly found out it wasn’t like that at all. No it’s not the smallest thing in the world, it definitely isn’t, but it’s not overly sized in a way it’s just inconvenient. The weight was quite a surprising factor too. It’s one of the most light weight alarms I ever held in my hands. I used to use quite a small regular alarm which weighs like 5 times more than this Wake Up light even though it’s a lot smaller.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the whole Wake Up Light thing, I’m briefly going to explain what it is and how it works. A Wake Up Light is a alternative for a regular alarm. Instead of waking you up by blasting out horrible sounds or insanely loud songs, it will start shining. This doesn’t happen in a split second. About ten to fifteen minutes before you want to wake up the light gradually becomes brighter and brighter. How bright it will become is up to you. It ranges from 1 to 10, 10 being the brightest.

Aside from the light it also makes a sound at the time you’re supposed to wake up. This isn’t some insanely loud beep or whatever. The version that I bought has three different options. Two of them are nature sounds. When you chose one of these you’ll hear the sound of birds around the time you have to wake up. The third option is radio. I personally haven’t used that one yet, but you could if you prefer that.

After reading that you might think: but do you actually wake up from that? I’m quite a heavy sleeper. I’ve slept through various alarms during my time on this planet, but I haven’t slept through this Wake Up Light once. Because it’s quite bright you naturally wake up. The sound does help, but it’s mainly the light that wakes me up.

Having said that, let’s move on to why this makes me wake up feeling fresh instead of nearly dead. Well the thing is, a regular alarm wakes you up in quite a harsh way. Especially when you’re still in the REM part of your sleep cycle. When that happens you will wake up feeling tired and disoriented. This Wake Up Light does the opposite. It creates a very natural atmosphere for you to wake up in.

It’s not as harsh and because it doesn’t just bluntly turn on the light at the set time, it allows you to wake up at the best possible time of your sleep cycle. It’s not a blazing sound that wakes you up, it’s your body that wakes up. This way you will wake up feeling happy, well rested and ready to go.

Of course this miracle might not work for everybody, but for me it really does. I’ve never felt so un-tired in my life. Because of that I’m way more productive and I just feel more healthy and happy. It really is a life changing gadget for me which makes it totally worth the money.

So if you’re just like me and you also struggle with exhaustion a lot, this might be a great little gadget for you. It does look absolutely stunning in your room because of the gorgeous rosegold/copper back and it just makes a big difference for me! I highly recommend giving it a try!

The Philips Wake Up Light HF3506/50 is available at electronic stores for €89,99.

That was it for today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you do in order to feel fresh and well rested in the morning!

XOXO, Nicole.
