For the longest time, Nars is known for one of the most incredible concealers in the world: the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I’ve used and loved it for ages, but I was ready to move on to something new. And that ended up being the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer. Their new addition to the concealer range. It has been out for quite some time now, but it’s just now that I finally got the time to get into it and give it a go myself. So, after testing it for a good couple of months I think it’s about time I review this little guy. So, if you’re interested in finding out whether or not the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer is any good and if it beats the famous Radiant Creamy Concealer, make sure you continue reading!
Unlike the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer, which comes in a regular lipgloss kind of packaging, the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer comes in a jar. I have to say that I haven’t seen many concealers in a jar packaging throughout the last couple of years, but I do like the look of it. Like all Nars packagings, this one looks absolutely stunning and super fancy. The bottom part of the jar is just clear and the lid is made out of this classic black Nars material and it says Nars on it in a nice and minimalistic font. Aside from that the top part of the jar pretty simple and clean. I really love how minimalistic these Nars packagings look.
In terms of size this jar is nice and compact, but it does come with 6.2 grams. Since most concealers I own are measured in ml it’s hard to compare, but I do think it’s a pretty decent amount. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now and so far there isn’t even a dent in it. So I think this jar will last me for quite some time.
All in all I do really like the look of this packaging. I think it’s clean, classic, minimalistic and completely Nars proof! The only downside, which is a downside in all Nars packagings, is that the black material does get dirty really easy. Especially in this case if you apply this concealer using your fingers!

The Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealers comes in 16 shades, ranging from very fair to deep. I do think that Nars’ shade ranges are always pretty decent. They don’t do 50 shades of beige and they do have more than one option in the deeper part of their shade range. In this case I do think that they, again, did a pretty good job on that. It’s hard for me to really say this is a complete range since I don’t have a deeper skin tone so I don’t know if it’s deep enough for the deepest of skins. But what I do know is that there is a pretty reasonable balance between the amount of light and dark shades in the range.
Having said that, let’s talk about the shade I ended up getting. I went for the shade Light 1 Chantilly. It’s the same shade I have in the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer so I was pretty sure that this was going to be a proper match for my skin tone. Chantilly is a very fair shade with neutral undertones, which is exactly what I have. I am super, super pale and my skin has neutral undertones. Therefore this shade is perfect for me and probably also for a lot more girls out there who are pale as snow. This shade is even light enough to create a highlighted effect underneath the eyes. That doesn’t happen all that much for us!
Before we jump into the results and me talking about how I like this concealer, I first want to discuss the claims Nars has made regarding this product really quickly. According to Nars their Soft Matte Complete Concealer has a soft-focus blurring effect with high-performance coverage. It blurs, conceals and smooths imperfections with complete comfort. It’s supposed to be completely natural-looking, it’s oil-free and long-wearing without settling into fine lines and pores.
Overall Nars makes this product sound like the perfect concealer. Obviously most brands claim these kinds of things about their own products, but well, that does not always mean that it is true. If I’m being really critical I don’t think that all of the claims Nars has made are completely true, but in general I do think that this is a great product.
Let’s start off by discussing the texture. As you can tell this is a concealer in a jar, and therefore it has a more solid consistency. Before I started using it I wasn’t sure whether I was going to like that. I was used to the extremely smooth and creamy texture of the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer and I didn’t think that this would be as great in terms of texture as the Radiant Creamy is like. However, I wasn’t completely right. This consistency is definitely different. It is more on the solid side and therefore less soft, but it is really creamy and smooth. It’s not a concealer that is difficult to work with or hard to even get onto your finger or brush.
Another thing that surprised me about the consistency is that it is rather thin. Most jar concealers I own are on the thicker side of the spectrum, while this one isn’t that thick. It doesn’t feel heavy and it doesn’t feel like a thick greasy mess underneath my eyes. Because of that it is actually a great product to use underneath your eyes. It sits really nice on that area without it accentuating my fine lines in that area because of the texture.
In terms of coverage I’m really happy with this product. As you can tell this concealer took away most of the darkness I have underneath my eyes. It really brightens up the area and makes me look a lot more awake. And the best thing is that it also does the same for my pimples. On the picture it seems like a very extreme difference, but that’s just because my camera didn’t pick up the redness completely. It does really depend on how much you use and how you apply it whether it will cover up the pimple completely, but for the most part it really evens out my skin tone and therefore I’m really happy with it.
Another thing about it that makes me really happy is how quick it is to work with and how longlasting it is. I usually apply it with my fingers underneath my eyes and go over it with a Beautyblender. Because of the texture this proces only takes like a split second. When that’s all done, the concealer kind of sets and it doesn’t budge all day long. Like really, it doesn’t. This is another one of those all-weather proof kind of products. Whether you’re sweating your eyeballs out or you’re cycling through the rain, this concealer will be with you through thick and thin. It’s amazing.
All in all I am in love with the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer and I’m really glad I finally decided to get it. I still love the Radiant Creamy Concealer just as much, but I do feel like this little jar lasts me way longer than the liquid one does, which is a big plus. It’s also really quick and easy to work with, it looks very natural and it has amazing coverage. I love, love, love it!
That’s everything for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s post, and be sure to let me know what you think of this concealer and the way it acts on my face!
