I believe it was back in October or November when I bought all of the Rituals Shower Oils that were available at that moment. I had tried one at the time and I loved it so much I decided to get all other scents as well. I have reviewed most of them by now, but one I haven’t reviewed just yet. The Ritual Of Dao Calming Shower Oil. Therefore I felt like it was about time to review it today. So, without further ado, if you’re interested in reading a lot of fun stuff about the Rituals Ritual Of Dao Calming Shower Oil and finding out whether it’s any good or not, make sure you continue reading!
The Rituals Ritual Of Dao Calming Shower Oil comes in a long, slim bottle with a pump on top. The bottle contains 200 ml of oil and that’s quite an okay amount for a shower oil. Compared to regular shower gels I feel like you need way less product when you’re using a shower oil like this one, which justifies the fact that you get a little less product in this bottle than you would if you’d buy pretty much any shower gel from any brand.
When it comes to the design of the bottle I have to admit that I’m personally a pretty big fan. I love the slim and tall design, I think it looks elegant and pretty. I’m also a huge fan of the pump because I think it’s an easy and hygienic way to use product, but it’s convenient as well because this way there won’t get any water from the shower in your product. Aside from that I’m also a huge fan of the green and gold colour scheme used on the bottle so overall I’m just a fan of the design. I think it’s very, very pretty.

Every Rituals range has a different little text they put on the back of the bottle. The Ritual Of Dao range has the following little text:
“Ancient Dao philosophy focusses on balancing yin and yang, bringing peace and tranquility into your life”.
I do think that’s a very spiritual yet a very beautiful sentence. When you try to translate that to a scent I think that you’re going to end up with a nice and warm, yet very calming scent. A great scent to use before you go to bed. Since I’m a nighttime shower-er that’s very convenient for me. However, if you take your showers in the morning and you like using something refreshing and awakening you might prefer the orange range from Rituals.
The main elements of the scent are white lotus and yi yi ren. I have had products with these ingredients before and these are always very calming scents. It’s hard to describe but it makes you feel warm and cozy inside and I really like that feeling. Especially when I’m about to go to bed.
Something I really like about this scent is that it lingers for quite a while. It’s not gone by the time you step out of the shower. Some days I can even smell it the next day around the afternoon. That might not sound that impressive but it actually is, most shower gels are gone after washing them off. Special ones might last for a couple of hours but not that many linger until the next day. Especially not until the afternoon. So I’m just very impressed by that but I think I made my point very clear about that.
Another thing I really like about these shower oils, especially about this one, is how nice it feels on the skin. All five or six scents feel soft and comfortable on the skin, but for some reason this one feels extra nourishing. The first time I used these shower oils I did need to get used to the feeling of washing my body with an oil instead of a gel, but I quickly learned to love it and now I just can’t stop using them.
I do understand that the idea of a shower oil might sound pretty scary. Before I had ever used a shower oil in my life I thought it was just a recipe for disaster. Why on earth would you use an oil to wash your body. I didn’t think it would actually cleanse your skin. But surprisingly enough I was mistaken. Very mistaken at that.
Cleansing your body with a shower oil like this one is actually very effective and comfortable. It’s not like a straight up oil just like olive oil or hair oils or whatever. This oil does get a tad bit foamy once you rub it into your skin. It doesn’t get nearly as foamy as a shower gel ever would, not even maybe, and you can hardly tell it does, but what I’m trying to say is that it does kind of act like a shower gel, but differently. Instead of becoming very foamy this stays fluid and that makes it a lot smoother and less drying for the skin. It also feels a lot more comfortable rubbing this all over your body because it isn’t as harsh.
Since it’s an oil instead of a gel it’s a lot more nourishing, since oils usually are pretty nourishing. This makes these shower oils perfect for days when your skin is feeling dry. For me that’s during the winter months, but also during the summer days when I have swum in the sea or in a pool. That usually dries out my skin pretty badly and this is the easiest and quickest save for that.
Overall I’m just very positive about the Rituals Shower Oils, but especially about the Ritual Of Dao Calming Shower Oil. This is one of my favourite scents out of all five or six I own and I feel like this one is even more comfortable on my skin than the other ones are. It’s the perfect nighttime product to get you into that cozy mood and that makes me love it even more. I highly recommend giving it a try!
That’s it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you’ve ever tried any of the Rituals Shower Oils and if so, be sure to let me know which one is your favourite!
