Right before my birthday I placed an order on the Rituals website and along with my order I received these Rituals Private Collection Precious Amber Fragrance Sticks. So far I have never tried fragrance sticks. Somehow they didn’t really interest me all that much. But now that I had them anyway I was very excited to give them a try while I’m at it. So, for the past month this little bottle has been filling my bedroom with scent and today I’m going to talk to you guys about my experience with that. If you’re interested in reading about all that, make sure you continue reading this post!
The Rituals Private Collection Precious Amber Fragrance Sticks come in this really chic looking bottle. This is the mini version, but the full-size comes in a pretty similar packaging. The bottle is black and made out of glass. The details and text on the bottle are mainly written in gold. This creates a very luxurious look. The design of the bottle is very simplistic so there’s not too much fuzz to it. I really like that about it. Since it’s a glass bottle it also feels pretty hefty which adds to the luxurious feeling of the product.
The bottle comes in a large black box with a similarly simplistic design. Inside the box you’ll find the bottle but also five slim wooden sticks, tied together with a rubber elastic band. The glass bottle is closed with a thick stopper that is kind of hard to get out at first. But once it has been out once it’s easier to manage.
When using these fragrance sticks you’ll have to open the bottle by pulling out the stopper and you put in the slim wooden sticks. I don’t really know what the idea behind the sticks is, but well, at least it looks pretty. Anyway, if you get tired of the scent you could take out the wooden sticks and lay them down on a tissue and put the stopper back in. So if you expect that you want to stop using it at some point, make sure you keep the stopper around somewhere.
Rituals Private Collection Precious Amber Fragrance Sticks 450 ml – €42,50 (full-size)
Rituals has a pretty wide collection of scents when it comes to their fragrance sticks. Most of them are rather affordable, but the ones from the Private Collection are extremely and outrageously expensive. I would never pay that amount of money for a full size bottle of fragrance sticks, but now that I have it I’m happy with it. It’s something completely new to me and overall the experience has been really nice so far.
The scent from this particular version of fragrance sticks is called Precious Amber. I would describe the scent as a very luxurious and rich scent. My boyfriend said it smelled like a hairdresser or the dentist office but I don’t agree with that. It’s a very chique scent. It is not necessarily fruity or sweet, it’s just fancy. It’s a delicate and subtle scent, but it’s definitely there.
After doing some research I found out that the sticks are called diffuser reeds. They suck up the fragrance oil from inside the bottle and disperse it throughout the room. Rituals does recommend not turning the reeds around because that way the fragrance won’t last as long as it should. After having the reeds inside the bottle for a while I can tell that they are getting a bit ‘wet’. You can tell that there’s fluid inside them. But I don’t know about the dispersing thing. I’m sure that it does do that, but well, if you keep a bottle of perfume oil open of course it’s going to smell nice throughout the room. I’m a bit skeptical about the whole idea of it.
Anyway, because I have a pretty tiny room I was scared that this bottle of fragrance was going to be too much for me. But because the scent is so nice and subtle it doesn’t do that at all. It does make my entire room smell very fresh and clean (even when it isn’t). When you walk into the room you can immediately smell it, but it’s not like you’re walking into a perfume store and get hit by a big wall of fragrance. Even in a small room where the windows are only every now and then opened, this is not too overwhelming.
Compared to a candle I do think this is handier because it doesn’t involve fire and it doesn’t warm up my room and fill it with carbon monoxide. However it does fill the room with scent all day long. If you don’t like that this is not going to be for you. Now that it’s colder outside I do sometimes like to burn a candle so my room smells nice and gets a little warmer but I wouldn’t want to mix the scent of a candle with this diffuser, so that is a bit of a downside. In conclusion I think that this is a bit safer and more appropriate for making the room smell nice when you don’t want it to get hot. However, during the winter months I’d prefer a scented candle.
By the way, I read on the Rituals website that when the fluid comes in touch with literally anything you should be in a bit of panic. When it touches your skin you should immediately wash it with ‘a lot of water and soap’ and if you swallow it you should immediately see a doctor. That does sound pretty scary, so beware for that. If you have a kid or an animal walking around, be extra careful with this kind of product!
All in all I’m really glad I finally got to try fragrance sticks. The Rituals Private Collection Precious Amber Fragrance Sticks are very luxurious and smell super fancy. I like the intensity of the scent a lot and I like that it’s so easy to use. Now that it’s colder outside I would prefer burning a candle because that would warm up the room at the same time, but in summer this would have my preference. I do think that it’s a very expensive product (at least the full-size is) and I wouldn’t personally buy it just because of that. But if you’re a fragrance stick lover I do think this can be amazing for you!
