I think that everyone who reads my blogposts a lot knows that I swear by the Stila Eyes Are The Window palette in Soul. It’s one of my absolute favourites and go-to palette. I use it almost every single day. Because of that my palette is looking disastrous these days and almost all of favourite shadows are gone by now. Therefore I decided to repurchase it. Because it’s my first palette repurchase I thought it might be fun to do a re-review about it. Especially since it has changed a little. So if you want to read an updated review about it and find out about the differences between this version and the old one, make sure you continue reading this post!
First of all, I’m sorry for how dirty the old palette looks. Once there was a little incident and a glass of soda fell over it. It never fully recovered…. Anyway, this is what the old and the new palette look like side by side. The old one had a shiny silver front with three S’s in the middle and the name of the brand. The back of the palette has a rose gold colour. The new palette has a much different look. It’s almost completely matte and the only shiny things are the name of the brand and the lining across the borders. The palette does feel a bit more sturdy now, but I do prefer the shiny look of the old palette. As you can tell it does get dirty really easily, but it’s cute so it’s worth it.
On the inside of the palette you will find a very nice sized mirror. It’s about the size of the lid, so that’s a nice size. I do really appreciate that about the packaging. Aside from the mirror it doesn’t really have anything exciting to it, but I don’t hate that about it. It’s a nice and sleek looking packaging.

The inside has changed a little bit too. Most of the palette is set up in the same way, but the two shades on the bottom in the left row has changed positions. I don’t know why, but it happened. The shades themselves are the exact same. So nothing has actually changed. Luckily.
But before we jump into the details about this renewed palette, I first want to go through the shades with you guys. After all, this isn’t just a post in which I compare two palettes. I’m also reviewing it again. So, this palette, the Stila Eyes Are The Window Palette in Soul, is a palette filled with neutral toned eyeshadows. There are more cool toned shades in here as well as some more warm toned. But in general I think they’re more neutral than cool or warm. They’re right in the middle and therefore they will suit everybody perfectly.
The first row (top to bottom, left) in this palette is filled with lighter shades. The top shade is one I’d use as a highlighter and the other three I’d definitely use all over the lid. The middle row is a little bit of everything, but contains mainly medium tones. I use the matte ones as transition shades. The last row is filled with the darkest tones in this palette, including a serious shade of black.
In terms of what this palette has got to offer, I still love it as much as I always used to. I mean, this is the first palette I ever really ‘used up’. Okay, it’s not completely empty. But I have used a ton of pretty much every shade in there and some shades are really about to be gone. And I’m pretty darn sure the same thing will happen with this new version. The shades are so perfect for me, they really do fit my style perfectly.
Aside from the shades that come inside this palette, I also want to discuss the quality and the formula of the shadows in here and compare them to the old version. And that’s something interesting to me. I feel like one main complaint lots of people had regarding the old version is that it wasn’t pigmented enough. I personally didn’t experience it like that, but I know others did. In this palette that’s completely different.
But one thing that has changed for the worst is the formula. In the old palette the formula was amazing. The shadows weren’t powdery, they weren’t too dry and they weren’t too creamy either. In this palette however, the shades are much more powdery. I really have to tap off my brush before using it and the palette has gotten a mess already. It’s all very dusty and that’s something I’m not familiar with in this range of palettes from Stila.
Like I said the pigmentation of this renewed palette is definitely great. Okay, if you compare it to Morphe palettes I can understand why some of you might say that this isn’t great. But I’m not a Morphe-extremely-pigmented kind of girl. I wouldn’t know what to do with it. For me this is great pigmentation. This is the exact right amount. It’s pigmented enough for you to apply it in one go, but you don’t have to worry about it being too extreme. The shades are really easy to handle.
Just like in the old palettes the shades blend really well. They don’t fade away throughout the blending process, but they do fade around the edges so you won’t end up with any harsh lines. I’m not sure if there’s a difference in blendability between the old and the new version of the palette, but I’m sure they’re pretty much similar.
The longevity of the shades is great as well. The shades stay in place all day long and if you’re using a proper primer underneath they really won’t budge. The primer will make them more intense as well so if you really long for more pigment, that’s a tip.
All in all I’m really liking this renewed Stila Eyes Are The Window in Soul Eyeshadow Palette. It has been my biggest favourite for years now. My daily staple and my go-to. I couldn’t imagine living without it so I’m really glad that this renewed version is just as amazing. The pigmentation has gotten better, the shadows did get a bit more powdery but they’re still incredibly nice and easy to work with. I’m a huge fan!
And with that being said I’m ending today’s post. Thank you so much for reading about my favourite palette on earth and be sure to let me know which eyeshadow palette you just can’t live without!
