IĀ think everyone, or at least most of us, know that it’s very important to protect your skin from the harmful rays from the sun. And that includes your face. Whenever I would cover myself in sunblock I would never put it on my face because it’s way too thick, greasy and heavy and it would create an instant breakout. But that’s not an excuse anymore. Nowadays there are lot’s of products available with SPF that are meant for your face. Because it has been very warm outside I decided to buy one for myself and see what it’s like. I ended up buying the Biodermal Mattifying Sun Fluid with SPF50. Today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out whether this sunblock is actually mattifying and everything else it claims to be, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with the packaging. The Biodermal Mattifying Sun Fluid comes in a white box with orange on it. The orange instantly reminds me of sunblock. When you open it up you’ll find the tube. The tube has the same colour scheme as the box and pretty much the same things standing on it. The size of the tube is pretty much perfect. It isn’t huge, but it does contain enough product.
The tube also comes with a pump which I really like. It’s a very hygienic way to dispense product and it keeps oxygen away from the product which is a good thing. It also makes it very easy to use and it adds a more professional look in my opinion. Overall I really like the packaging in general. It looks basic but professional.

Moving on to the product itself. Biodermal used to have three different versions of this sun fluid, all with different amounts of SPF. The one I bought has SPF50, but it also comes in a version with SPF30. Back in the day they also have a version with SPF20. I bought the one with 50 because I like to protect my skin as much as possible, so in that case the highest amount of SPF is the way to go, right?
The thing that makes this particular product so special is that it’s mattifying. Usually sunscreen is the opposite of mattifying. Therefore I was quite curious to see how they actually managed to make a product that’s usually super greasy, non-greasy.
But before I jump into that, I first want to go over the claims Biodermal makes regarding this product. From what I’ve read this product seems to be a combination of a skincare product and a sunscreen. According to Biodermal this product has a very lightweight formula which is supposed to be mattifying and therefore it will prevent your skin from looking shiny. Thanks to the Zinc PCA in this product it will also prevent you from getting blemishes. But that isn’t it yet. It’s also a very hydrating product. This product is supposed to provide direct and intense, long-lasting hydration.
Since this is a sunscreen it obviously does more than that. It also has a high SPF in it and thanks to the advanced UVA/UVB filters in this product it immediately provides high protection.
All of those claims sound really interesting but also a little too good to be true. I mean, intensely hydrating, mattifying and protecting?! Well I have to say they’re not lying. To be completely honest with you there even is something else this does as well. It actually acts as a primer too. When using this before applying foundation you don’t need to go ahead and apply a primer anymore. This product does all a primer does as well. It’s incredible how multifunctional it is!
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s slow down a little and get into more detail regarding this product. Let’s start off by talking about the priming part since that secretly is one of the things I’m most excited about. This primer is just one bad-ass primer. It has a little bit of a sticky feel to it once it’s blended into the skin and because of that your makeup sticks to it beautifully. But aside from just making your face feel sticky, it also makes your face feel a lot more smooth and even. The combination of those two things is what makes it such an amazing primer and therefore a great product in general.
The texture of the product is really nice too. It’s definitely a fluid like it’s called and I think that that is what causes it to be so mattifying yet hydrating. Just because the formula is very runny, it doesn’t mean it can’t be hydrating. This product definitely proves that. Because it’s thin it is very lightweight and therefore it doesn’t feel or look greasy on the skin. But because the product does contain high amounts of hydrating ingredients, it is definitely very effective. I know this might not make any sense at all, but bare with me. Things like this are hard to explain in words.
Of course I can’t tell you anything about the protecting aspect of this product. I mean, you can’t really test if it works at home, so even though I’d love to, I can’t go into detail about that. Because Biodermal is a very amazing and well-loved brand I do trust them on their word, but if you do that too is up to you.
Overall I think this Biodermal Mattifying Sun Fluid is phenomenal. It’s way more than a sunscreen and that’s what makes it so unique. It protects your face from the harmful rays of the sun, but it also hydrates your skin, it makes your skin feel smooth and even, it mattifies the skin and it acts as a great base for makeup. Basically it does everything you want a face sunscreen to do and way, way more. I absolutely love this product and if there’s one summer-essential product I could recommend it would definitely be this!
And that basically concludes today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading and be sure to let me know if you ever use special sunscreen for your face and if so let me know what you use and why!
XOXO, Nicole.
