One of the many The Ordinary products I bought is the Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%. I have to admit that back when I bought it I didn’t really know what it was, what it was going to do to my skin and I really felt like Lactic Acid sounded like something you shouldn’t be putting on your skin. However I bought it and I tested it anyway and today I’m going to be telling you how I like it. If you’re interested in finding out more about this product, make sure you continue reading!
Like most other The Ordinary products, this comes in a little glass bottle made out of matte glass with a dropper. It looks very medical and clean in my opinion and I really like that about that. I can understand people not liking it, but to be honest. For something as affordable as this product, I think The Ordinary did a great job at packaging it and not making it look super cheap.
The bottle contains 30 ml of products which is quite a lot. Especially if you consider you only need about 4 drops to cover your entire face. Therefore this bottle will probably last you for quite some time. And I really like that about it!
On the back of the box (and the bottle) The Ordinary gives us a little more information about this product. The Ordinary doesn’t really make any claims in general so don’t expect that. They really just provide you with a bit of information on what it is and how to use it.
However, before I jump in to how to use it, I think it’s important to make clear what this actually is. I have to admit that I didn’t know what it actually was until very recently. But now I know and I’m going to briefly explain it to you. This Lactic Acid is a product that will exfoliate your skin in a mild way. For some people the word ‘acid’ might sound very scary and painful, but because of the Tasmanian pepperberry in this product you don’t have to worry about irritation at all since this ingredient is known to reduce that. Because it’s a form of direct exfoliation you will be able to see results quickly.
Having covered that, let’s move on to how to use this product.
Using this product is one of the easiest parts in my opinion. All you do us squeeze the lid to load up the dropper and drop a few drops on your skin, massage it in and you’re done. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that you use it in the PM, so at night (ex. before you go to bed) and not in the morning. Because it exfoliates the skin it’s important to be aware of the fact that you might get sunburned easier after using this product which is why it’s better to use it at night rather than in the morning and which is why they recommend using SPF when you use this product.
Now that we have covered the difficult and important parts regarding the use and the aim of this product it’s finally time to start discussing the quality of this product and whether or not it actually makes a difference.
So, does it work? Because it doesn’t claim anything it feels weird to say whether or not it works because I have nothing to agree or disagree with. But overall I do think that this product works. I do think that it makes a difference. I’ve been using it for about two to three weeks now if not longer and so far I’ve been noticing that my skin has been feeling a lot more soft and smooth. Where my skin used to feel a little more on the rough and textured side, it now feels like it more even and smooth.
Another thing I like about it is that it’s actually really mild. When I first used it I was quite scared that it was going to hurt since lactic acid does sound pretty scary and painful. However, I have never felt even the slightest sting. It’s completely pain-free. It also didn’t make my skin feel more sensitive whatsoever. I haven’t been able to test if my skin will be more likely to get sunburned while using this since there isn’t a lot of sun out here at the moment, but if they say that’s what happens I believe them.
The only slight downside to this product is the scent. It’s perfume free and you can smell that. I got used to it after using it once or twice. But my boyfriend doesn’t love sleeping next to me when I put this on my face. It just isn’t the best smelling product on earth.
However I totally think this product is worth it. I don’t mind smelling in the evening if my skin looks and feels as smooth as it does since I have started using this product. It’s a very simple product to add to your routine and it works great for me. If you need a new exfoliator or if you want something that can get rid of rough and textured skin, you might want to give this a go!
The The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2% is available at Deciem for €6,79.
That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you have any experience with this brand and if so, let me know how you like their products!
XOXO, Nicole.
Hi can Hyaluronic Acid 2%+B5 be used with this at night or can you tell me please what ordinary products to use in conjunction with lactic acid? Many thanks. B
The Ordinary has a page on their website telling us which products you cannot use together. The thing with Hyaluronic acid is that if you don’t use anything moisturising with it, it will suck the moisture out of your skin so it’s very important to combine it with some sort of moisturiser. Aside from that you can pair it with anything, also with lactic acid. You can find the guide here by the way http://theordinary.com/regimenguide. Hope that helps!
