The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

19/02/2017

Monday I posted a review on the The Ordinary Lactic Acid and today it’s time for another The Ordinary review. Today I’m going to be reviewing their Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. Hyaluronic acid is something I have heard so many things about, but I have never tried if for myself. Because it’s such a popular skincare ingredient I finally decided to put it to the test myself. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not it is actually as amazing as people claim it to be, make sure you continue reading!

Packaging wise this product looks pretty similar to the lactic acid. It comes in a frosted glass bottle with a dropper. It’s very simple and clean and I like the look of it. It looks professional and serious. At first I wasn’t sure whether the dropper would be nice to work with or not, but in the end I learned to deal with it and I like it.

I think it’s quite hygienic and it looks like it’s some serious stuff so that’s great too. Aside from that I like that the bottle isn’t too large and bulky, but it does contain 30 ml of product which is pretty average.

Onto the product itself. Let’s start off by discussing how this product should be used. You should apply a few drops of this product in the morning as well as at night, massage it into your skin and apply your moisturiser afterwards like normal. All together it’s quite an easy product to use, but it’s important to know when.

Since The Ordinary doesn’t really make any claims regarding their products we can’t check whether this product does what it says, however, I can tell you what a product like this is supposed to do and whether or not it does that. Hyaluronic acid is a hydrator. It will hydrate the surface area of the skin. However, if you’re in a dry environment or if you don’t apply anything moisturising on top, it will retract moisture from your skin and actually do the opposite of what you want it to do.

Another thing hyaluronic acid can is famous for is preventing changes in the skin that are associated with aging. These aging changes are associated with moisture so that’s what it all comes back to.

Having said that, let’s quickly go over the effects of B5 for your skin since it’s not just hyaluronic acid inside this product. Vitamin B5 has lot’s of benefits for your skin. It can naturally moisturise, soothe, heal and regenerate the skin. According to Deciem it also enhances surface hydration. All together these two ingredients are great and they’re even better when they’re mixed together.

So, now that we have gone over the ingredients let’s finally get into the effect and the results. I obviously was quite skeptical about whether or not this was actually going to make a difference for my skin. I mean it’s so affordable! Even though it’s always quite hard to tell whether a skincare product works or not (since there are so many factors that can influence the skin), I do feel like this product makes a clear difference.

Since I started using all of the The Ordinary products my skin in general has been in a way better condition than ever before. It’s difficult for me to really pinpoint which product is responsible for which result, but I have done my best to really match the results to the right product.

The main thing I have noticed since I have started using this product is that my skin looks very healthy and moisturised, it has a healthy glow, but it isn’t as oily as it used to be. I have this theory of why that’s the case but I’m not a scientist so don’t take it too seriously. I feel like the excess oils are created as a compensation for a lack of moisture. The skin thinks it lacks moisture and therefore it keeps producing more and more oils. If you put something on your skin that hydrates it, it will feel that it already has enough moisture and it won’t produce as much since it’s not trying to compensate. That’s my theory. I really don’t know whether or not it’s true, but for me it works.

Overall this product has given me great results. My skin looks very healthy and fresh and I can thank this product for that. It’s doesn’t take much to add this to your skincare routine but it makes a big difference so I personally highly recommend checking it out and giving it a fair shot!

The The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 is available at Deciem for €6,80.

That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what product you use to exfoliate your skin with!

XOXO, Nicole.
