Like I showed you guys in my last skincare haul, I bought quite a few products by the brand The Ordinary. One of those products is this High-Spreadability Fluid Primer. I bought it because the famous Wayne Goss recommended it in one of his videos and I was very curious to see whether or not this product is as amazing as he claims it to be. Today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out how I ended up liking it, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with discussing the packaging. I overall really, really like the look of it. It looks very professional and clean. It reminds me of something you got from the pharmacy and in my opinion that’s a good thing. The bottle is made out of matte glass and it has a sticker around it with some information about the product and how to use it.
The lid is white as well and has a rubbery part you have to push in order to suck some product into the dropper and to release it again. I do really like that system. The only small downside to this packaging is that it seems like it’s not closing properly. It’s kinda crooked. I don’t know if that’s just because I have a faulty packaging or maybe it’s my own fault, but I did want to mention that.
Onto the product itself. The product says it’s a high-spreadability fluid primer with high-flexibility silicones. I’ve never heard anyone be this proud of the use of silicones, but I can appreciate that. Usually I’m not a fan at all of silicone primers, but because Wayne was so excited about it I gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to try it anyway.
The thing I don’t like about silicones is that they feel so weird and slippery on the skin. The feeling is just a little cringe-worthy to me. Another thing I don’t like about them is that, in combination with some moisturisers or foundations, the texture get really weird and it will flake off your skin. Even though his primer is full of silicone and definitely has that silicone feel to it, I do like it and I’m really glad that I decided to give it a shot.
The main reason why I don’t mind the silicones in this case is because it doesn’t go bad with the products I put on top. In fact it pairs really well with those products. Once you apply the primer, the skin will feel very smooth and slightly slippery. It’s basically just a smooth canvas to apply your makeup to. Once you apply the makeup the primer kind of changes itself and the makeup will really stick to it.
I always used to feel like silicone primers were doing the opposite of what they should be doing. I felt like the slippery-ness was causing the makeup to slide right off. In this case it’s just not like that at all. The makeup really adheres to the primer and together they are going nowhere. Literally nowhere.
Even though the application of makeup won’t be a lot smoother when you use this primer, the staying power will change tremendously. It really does work wonders and I can’t deny that. The only downside to this amazingness is that this primer does make the makeup feel slightly heavy.
It’s not because it’s a thick product, but it’s because you can feel the primer sticking on to the foundation, which is why you feel the foundation on your face. This does get slightly less extreme throughout the day, but it will stay heavier than it would if you wouldn’t use this primer.
Overall I think this The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer is a great product. It does what a primer is supposed to do and it does a great job at that. The only reason why I might not recommend it is because it does make your makeup feel a bit heavier than usual, but aside from that I think it’s a great product!
The The Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer is available at Deciem for €7,20.
That was it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know which primer you’re currently using to keep your makeup in place all day!
XOXO, Nicole.
