After years of living my life without having the NYX Ultra HD blush in Taupe I finally bought it. I know, finally! It was about time. This ‘blush’ has been one of the most popular affordable contour powders ever and I have always wanted to try it. So, without further ado, I have tested it thoroughly and it is time for a review. If you’re interested in finding out whether or not this powder turned out to be as amazing as everybody claims it is, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off by discussing the packaging. The packaging of this ‘blush’ is very simple. It has changed a little throughout the years, but it’s in a good place now. It’s a small black plastic packaging with a little clear circle in the middle. Inside the circle it says NYX. On the side, the part where you open it up, it has a little bow. I do think it’s a cute detail, but in my experience it doesn’t make opening the packaging up any easier. It actually makes it a bit harder for me.
Moving on. NYX has a ton of different shades in this HD Blush range. Ranging from very wearable shades to more bright shades, to lighter colours and darker ones. What I’m trying to say here is that there is a lot to choose from. However, this particular shade isn’t what I would call a blush. So I’m not sure why this is called one, but that’s not really a big deal to me.
NYX HD Blush Powder in Taupe – €6,90
Like I said this ‘blush’ is called Taupe. I think that name describes the colour of the powder perfectly. It’s a medium brown shade with a slight purple undertone. In other words, it’s a taupe colour. Because it has a rather cool undertone it’s the perfect shade for contouring the face. At least it is for me. I am pretty pale, well, very pale, and powders with a warmer undertone just don’t work for me. They look orange and weird and that’s just not the look I am going for.
Before I jump into the part of the review where I go on and on about the quality, I first want to explain the concept of contouring real quick for those of you who don’t know. Contouring means that you create shadows on your face to make your face look more sculpted. You can put it in the hollows of your cheeks to accentuate your cheekbones, you can put it along your jawline to reduce the appearance of a double chin and you can put it on the sides of your nose to make it look smaller.
Because you want to create a shadow it’s important to use a colour for this that is similar to the colour of a natural shadow. Shadows are never orange so therefore a more cool toned powder is perfect for contouring.
With that being said, let’s move on to the quality of the product. According to NYX this is a high definition blush with a lightweight formula. It’s supposed to blend easily and be vibrant and soft. It’s not a huge claim or something unique at all, but it is everything a blush is supposed to be. The only thing I don’t really understand is the high definition part. I mean, how can a product be HD. How?
Anyway, the powder itself is exactly like NYX describes it to be. It’s very soft and smooth and it’s incredibly easy to work with. It applies very evenly and it’s super easy to blend. Whenever I accidentally apply a little too much I can easily correct that by blending a little more than I usually would.

Before – After
The before and after picture aren’t that clear, but you can kind of tell the difference. At least I can. The powder itself is pretty intense and pigmented so at first I did tend to over apply a little. Like I said there’s no reason to worry if that does happen to you too since you can easily blend it into something a little more natural. Aside from that it’s a very pretty look. It just looks good, like I want it to. It looks natural but sculpted and I really, really like that.
The lasting power of this product is pretty decent too. It’s not the most longlasting thing in the world, but it definitely beats most of my other powder products so that is quite impressive.
Overall I’m a big fan of this product. I didn’t want to get my hopes up because often hyped products like this end up being a little disappointing. However in this case it’s not. It’s exactly what everyone claims it is and I absolutely, absolutely love it. It’s the perfect (affordable) contour powder and I recommend everyone to give it a try!
And that’s pretty much it for today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you have NYX Taupe in your collection and if so, be sure to let me know what you think of it!
