It’s already been a couple of months since I bought it and I was planning on reviewing it sooner but it just didn’t happen. Anyway, a couple of months ago, while I was scrolling through the Lookfantastic webshop, I came across this Nars highlighter. I don’t know why I never noticed it before, but for some reason this time it really caught my eye. Because I’d already shopped a lot that month I wasn’t intending on buying it, but this one really stayed in my head. After a couple of days I ended up buying it and today I’m going to tell you guys everything about this beautiful Nars Hot Sand Highlighter. If you’re interested in finding out everything there is to know about this highlight, make sure you continue reading!
Like all other Nars product the Hot Sand Highlighting Blush Powder comes in a black box made out of rubberised plastic, decorated with the Nars logo in white. It’s a very sleek and simple packaging but I absolutely love it. It’s definitely a packaging that will get dirty really quickly, but that’s okay. It looks really pretty either way. Anyway, on the inside of the lid is a relatively big mirror for the size of the product and I really appreciate that. Overall the packaging is just amazing and I love it!
Having said that let’s talk about the product itself. I have to admit that I had no idea Nars had any other highlighters in their collection aside from the famous Nars Albatross highlighter. I guess there aren’t a lot of people that talk about it or I just missed it every time someone did talk about it. To my surprise Nars actually has quite a few highlighters in their collection. Because this one seemed the prettiest to me I bought this shade, but I’m pretty sure I’ll try the other ones as well in the near future!
Nars Hot Sand Highlighting Blush Powder – €32
Event though Hot Sand might appear as a pretty basic highlighting shade at first sight, it’s actually pretty unique. It’s a light champagne colour with a gorgeous sheen to it, but what makes it so special is the fact that it’s a bit of a muted champagne colour if that makes any sense at all. With that I’m trying to say that it isn’t just a basic champagne. It’s a bit more toned down than that. Aside from that it also has a bit of a pinky tone to it, but that is very, very settle and hardly noticeable once it’s on your cheeks.
Overall I just think Hot Sand is a very pretty and also a very universal colour. I think it’s a colour that would look amazing on all skin tones and I always think that’s a huge plus. It’s not too out there but not too settle either which makes it perfect for everyday wear and for every occasion you can think of. In terms of colour I think this is the ideal highlighter. Whenever I’m not sure about what highlighter I want to use I always gravitate towards this one, it’s just so easy to combine!
Having discussed the colour let’s start talking about the claims. According to Nars this Highlighting Blush adds an instant radiance to your makeup look. It’s an illuminating powder highlighter that adds a hint of colour to the cheeks whilst imparting a subtle gold shimmer. It’s supposed to be a universal shade which is flattering for all skin tones. Its transparent pigments are supposed to ensure that it feels lightweight and comfortable on application. It’s supposed to be perfect for subtle contouring and for adding extra dimension to your features. They recommend applying it to the high points of the face (cheekbones, brow bones and down the centre of the nose) to create a naturally luminous finish. You can wear it alone or pair it with other cheek and highlighter products for a truly customised look.
Overall they make it sound like a very natural, perfect for all highlighter. I like that they tried to create a shade that is flattering for all skin tones because that way it’s a way more inclusive product, and I like that it’s subtle. I know that popping highlighters are all the rage, but in my everyday life I don’t need my cheekbones to look like the headlights of a car so a subtle highlight is the way to go for me personally.
In general I like that the claims aren’t too outrageous. They are definitely things that could work and could be true so that’s always a big plus in my book.
So, having discussed that let’s move onto the texture of the product. I think that the texture of a product says a lot about the quality. Cheaper products tend to have more powdery and chalky textures compared to more luxurious makeup that tends to have more satin-like feeling textures. For me that makes a big difference and that does make a more expensive product worth it for me.
Anyway, the point is that the texture says a lot about a product and the texture of this product is really nice, which gives me high hopes. The powder feels very soft and smooth. It’s quite silky and I really like that about it. It’s a very Nars-like texture. I know that might sound very vague to you, but if you’ve ever felt a Nars product in your life, or even better if you’ve ever owned one, you might get what I mean. Nars powder products have this specific feeling to them, that smooth and especially very soft feeling. They are the opposite of powdery and chalky and that makes them just incredible.
Because of this smooth texture but also because of the softness of it, this product is very easy to apply. I feel like you can really tell how amazing the texture is just by looking at it on the skin. It just looks so smooth and so evenly distributed. It’s just gorgeous!
Pigmentation wise Nars has done a great job as well. Look at how pretty it looks on my hand. This swatch is made with my finger and as you guys probably already knew that does mean it looks a little more intense than it would if you’d have swatched it using a brush, but trust me on this one, it looks gorgeous when applied with a brush as well. It just adds this gorgeous natural glow to the skin. It’s not too extreme but I don’t think it’s too settle either. It just adds the perfect amount of glow to the complexion to make you look radiant and healthy without overdoing it.
I also love the way this colour looks on my skin tone. Because I’m very pale highlighters tend to look a little funky on me, but this colour shows up gorgeously and blends in very well with the rest of my skin. It isn’t too out there or too extreme and it isn’t too yellow either for my skin. It’s just perfect and I absolutely adore the way that this looks. It’s one of my favourite everyday highlighters.
When it comes to staying power I can’t complain either. Of course it’s a powder products and powder products do fade throughout the day because of touching and wind and everything like that, but I feel like this highlighter does hold up surprisingly well. At the end of a long day you can still tell it’s there and that’s impressive.
Overall I’m just madly in love with this Nars Highlighting Blush Powder in the shade Hot Sand. I’m glad I found out about its existence because it has been a delight to have it in my collection. Ever since I got it, it has been my go to highlighter. Whenever I’m not sure what you use, I always go for this without a fail. I just love how pretty the shade is, how perfect the intensity of the glow is and how well it stays. It’s the best!
That’s about it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know what you think of this highlighter and also let me know which Nars product you’d recommend to me!
