A couple of years ago I was a huge fan of a blog that doesn’t exist anymore. They were all the rage about the Nars Audacious Lipsticks and I believe they tried all of them. Because of them I’d always been interested in giving one a try for myself. I mean, they were kind of my idols and they believed that these lipsticks were amazing. One of their favourite nude colours was Raquel, so for me it was an obvious choice to go for that shade. It did take me a couple of years to finally decide to buy it, but about two months ago I finally did it and today I think it’s about time for me to review this long awaited beauty. So, if you’re interested in finding out how amazing this lipstick actually is, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start with the basics, the packaging. This is my first full size Nars lipstick, so I didn’t fully know what to expect from the looks. Knowing Nars, I knew the packaging was going to be black, very sleek and very luxurious and professional feeling. And that it definitely is. The lipstick comes in a sturdy feeling black cardboard box and inside is the lipstick itself. I have to say that I do think that the packaging on it is pretty bulky. It’s rectangular shaped and over all just pretty large.
In terms of design the lipstick is rather simple. It’s plain black and the only thing that is going on on it is the fact that it says Nars in shiny black letters. Aside from that it’s all black and basic. I do think that this creates a really pretty, professional look. It definitely is something with a chic look to it. When you pick it up you can feel that too. The packaging is hefty and the lid closes with a magnetic system. I always think that’s a nice little extra. It’s obviously not an essential, but it is a nice touch.
Nars Audacious Lipstick in Raquel – €31
Like I said I bought a shade called Raquel. All of the Nars Audacious Lipsticks have names of women and I like that. It would be very cool if one was named after me, but sadly that isn’t the case. Anyway, there are a TON of shades available and a lot of options within the nude category. This does make it very difficult to decide on which shade you want to buy and especially to decide which shade will suit you best. Especially when you’re buying online, which is what I did.
I ended up looking up a lot of swatches and looking at pictures of people wearing them. In the end that’s pretty much all you can do. After doing that I figured Raquel would be the most suiting shade for me and I ordered it. I have to say that in real life it does look a little different than I expected it to. It’s a light peachy nude colour. It is very milky and pretty light so I definitely don’t think that this is a shade that will look good over everyone, but in the end you just gotta rock what you want to rock.
On most of my pictures the lipstick does appear to be a little bit darker than it is in real life. It’s just almost impossible to capture what it actually looks like. But I do think that the pictures clearly show the peachy tone that is in it, which I didn’t necessarily expect to be this obvious. Especially because on their website they describe it as a pink beige.
Before we start talking about the quality of the lipstick, let’s go over the claims Nars has made regarding this lipstick. According to Nars their Audacious Lipsticks have dramatic depth and an unstoppable character. These modern lipsticks should be so shamelessly seductive in touch and texture that the sensation is audacious. The unadulterated luxury should glide on like satin across skin with single-stroke coverage. They should have full-coverage creamy wear, be longlasting and they supposedly have nourishing ingredients in them that should smoothen and nourish the lips.
In general I do think that they make it sound like a very amazing lipstick, but these aren’t very new claims so I do think that they could possibly be true. The thing that most excites me about the claims is the part where they say that the texture is going to be really smooth and creamy. I love that about a lipstick. I know there are lots of people out there who are dying for matte lipsticks, but I definitely prefer a good creamy one to be honest.
So, having said that, let’s talk about my experience. The entire texture part of the claim is 100% true. This is a very smooth, rich and creamy lipstick. It really does glide onto the lips so smoothly and effortlessly. It’s just amazing. It is very comfortable to wear and very smooth feeling. You can tell that this isn’t just another lipstick, it’s a very luxurious one. And I love the way that feels.
Nars also claims that this lipstick has single-stroke coverage and that is true as well. This is a very pigmented lipstick and that’s visible. I personally don’t mind lipsticks that are a bit more sheer, but I can definitely appreciate how well pigmented it is. And because it’s so pigmented and it has this one-stroke coverage, it is very quick and easy to slap on before you get going.
In terms of finish this lipstick is totally up my alley. It has a really pretty creamy finish with a nice and healthy looking sheen to it. It’s not overly glowy or shiny and it’s definitely not glittery, it just has this really nice and natural sheen to it that I love.
Lastly Nars claims that this is a longlasting lipstick. Considering the texture and my experience with lipsticks like this, I wasn’t sure about that. But it surprised me. It even survived a meal and several drinks. Throughout the day the creamy layer does fade slowly but surely, but the colour will stay intact for almost the entire day. Almost as if it stains your lips, but than in a different way. It feels like a matte lipstick with a creamy layer. After a couple of hours the creamy layer will fade and it will have a more matte look, thanks to which it will stay in place even longer. However, when that more matte layer thingy is going on, I do think that this lipstick is a little less comfortable to wear.
All in all I’m impressed by this Nars Audacious Lipstick in Raquel. I did have pretty high expectations because those bloggers used to rave about it so much, but I didn’t know the quality was going to be this good. From the packaging to the texture, everything is so well made and so well thought out. You can tell that this isn’t just a lipstick they quickly formulated. It is incredibly smooth, it has a lot of pigment to it and it is very, very longlasting. It’s basically everything you need in a single bullet. I love it!
With that being said I think it’s time to end today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it, and be sure to let me know what you think of this shade and which shades you’d recommend to me!
