It’s the last day of 2018, which means that the year is almost over. At the end of the year I always love the reflect on the year I have had. And today I’m doing a beauty related review of the year, mentioning my ultimate favourite products of 2018. I’m going to do it category by category. It was very difficult to pick out the products I’ve really loved all year long, but I managed to do it. So, if you’re interested in finding out which products rocked my 2018, make sure you continue reading this post!
Skincare
Let’s start off with the skincare category, since skincare is the base of your makeup. In terms of skincare I have tried and evolved a lot this year. I think that my favourite discovery of the year is the Philosophy Purity Made Simple Moisturiser. I already and still love the Philosophy Purity Made Simple 3-in-1 Cleanser and therefore I decided to give the moisturiser a try as well. I think that it’s super awesome for my skin. It does mattify me, it keeps the oil production under control but it is also very hydrating.
Another skincare favourite of the year is the Chanel Gel Pureté. I never thought I’d ever buy a skincare product from Chanel, but this year I did and I fell in love with it. Okay, this is not something for everyone since it does have a bit of perfume in it. But for my skin it works really, really well. It does an amazing job at removing my makeup and it makes my skin feel so soft and clear. I love, love, love this!
Primer
Moving on to the second category, primer. I think this one won’t come as a surprise to you all, but my absolute favourite primer of the year is by far the Clarins Instant Light Radiance Boosting Complexion Base. I actually used up an entire tube of this product throughout the year and repurchased it. I think it goes by the name S.O.S. Primer now, but it’s the same thing.
This primer is just everything that I have always looked for in a primer. I don’t like those heavy, silicone primers. I like something that feels like a lotion. I also like it when it will add a nice settle glow to my skin without making me look like I’ve applied highlighter all over my skin. But at the same time I want my primer to keep me a bit matte. This primer does all of that. It feels so super comfortable on the skin, it adds a nice glow but it also keeps me matte and it makes me look more awake. I love, love, love this!
Foundation
In terms of foundation I’m also pretty certain about my choice. This foundation actually came as a surprise for me. I’ve never really loved the foundation products from Nars but this one has quickly become my best foundation ever and the one I reach for every single day. I’m talking about the Nars Velvet Matte Skin Tint. It’s a bit of a unique formula. It is a bit moussy but also liquid. It has a nice scent to it and it feels amazing on the skin. I know that it calls itself a skin tint, but this friend has got some coverage to it.
I just think that this product has the right amount of balance between evening out the skin tone and keeping things looking natural. I’m not a full-coverage girl anymore, but my skin can be pretty bad so I do want it to cover up that. This does that. And in addition to that it keeps me looking velvet matte and smooth. I’m such a big fan of this and I’m pretty sure I’ll repurchase this whenever I have to!
Concealer
Moving on to concealer. In this category I have two favourites. Starting off with the Essence Colour Correcting Concealer in the yellow shade. I use this everyday to cancel out the darkness underneath my eyes and I have been using it for that for more than a year now. I just think it does its job really, really well and it’s so affordable. I’m really impressed by this product.
For actual concealing my favourite has to be the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. I know this isn’t the most exciting favourite, but it is the product that has been rocking my world for more than a year by now. It’s the concealer I always go back to and that has everything to it that I want from it. It has an amazing and super comfortable formula, it has great coverage and it looks just really good underneath my eyes. I will love this forever and ever, pinky promise!
Powder
The next category I have is powder. I never thought I’d fall in love with a finishing powder but this year I did. Obviously I have been loving the RCMA No-Colour Powder for pretty much the entire year. I love that it comes in such a big container and that it sets your makeup but doesn’t alter it. It keeps me matte all day long and it just works really well for me.
But a powder that surprised me is one I actually bought rather recently, the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder. This is a big cult favourite and I totally get why. It’s such a finely milled powder with a really soft feel to it. It adds this soft focus finish to my complexion and makes my makeup stay in place all day long. I think in terms of the way it feels I like this better than the RCMA one, but the RCMA one is just as amazing in terms of setting as this one. I love both an awful lot, but at this moment in time I’m definitely more mesmerised by the Laura Mercier powder!
Brows
Moving on to the brows. This year has been a big struggle for me brow wise. Somehow everything I used to love didn’t work for me anymore and all shades I used were too dark. As a result I have tried a ton of new brow products, but in the end the one that I fell in love with is the one I loved all along but in a lighter shade. I’m talking about my beloved Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil in 02. I have repurchased this pencil a ton and I’ve been using it for years now, but somehow the shade I used to use, number 03, didn’t work for me anymore.
I’m so happy with this pencil. I love the slanted tip, this makes it really easy to use. And I also really like the formula of the pencil. It is waxy but not too waxy. Thanks to that it has enough colour pay-off, but it won’t be too extreme with just one light touch. I really think that this is the best brow product ever created and if you haven’t yet, give it a try! You won’t regret it, I promise.
Eyeshadow
The next category is eyeshadow. As you guys know I’m a big fan of using eyeshadow and I wear it everyday I wear makeup. The one product I can’t go without when it comes to eyeshadow is the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On And On Bronze. I use this everyday underneath my shadow as a base and I have tried, but I just can’t do it without this product. It makes everything look so much more perfect and I love the formula of it.
In terms of actual eyeshadow my favourite has to be the Stila Eyes Are The Window Palette in Soul. I have had lots of favourites throughout the year and palettes that I still absolutely adore, but this Stila palette is the one I used the most often and that I still use the most often. It’s the palette I gravitate towards everyday and on days where I just really don’t have any inspiration. I actually repurchased it, so that does mean a lot to me!
Mascara
In terms of mascara there is one clear winner for me this year. It’s the Chanel Dimensions De Chanel Mascara. I actually got this from my very best friend last year for Christmas. She told me it was amazing and since she isn’t even a big makeup lover I took that very seriously. I obviously started using it immediately and I totally understand what she was talking about back then. This really is the best mascara in the whole wide world.
I love how it adds tons of volume to the lashes without making them clump or stick together and it also makes my lashes look really nice and long with a really pretty curl to them. I have tried a lot of great mascara’s this year, but this is the only one that really stood out to me in a very special way. I even got complimented on my lashes while I was wearing this mascara. That’s something that definitely doesn’t happen to me all the time!
Cheeks
The next category is cheeks. In terms of cheeks I have tried a couple of new products but now an awful lot. One product I did fall in love with this year is the Chanel Les Beiges Poudre Belle Mine Ensoleillée. This is a bronzing powder that matches my skin tone so incredibly well. It also has the most amazing and soft formula and it’s so easy to blend and to work with. I use this every single day and I have been using this every single day from the moment I got this. If there’s one bronzer I’d recommend it’s definitely this one!
Another big, big cheek favourite of the year is the Hourglass Ambient Lightning Blush in Mood Exposure that I got from my boyfriend when we went to London together. I knew that these Hourglass blushes were going to be amazing since they are so popular, but I didn’t expect it to be this good. It really is my go-to blush these days and I think everyone should have at least one in their collection!
Lips
In terms of lips I didn’t have to think long about this years ultimate favourite. It obviously is my very much beloved Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Lipstick in 54 Boy. This is my perfect everyday nude lipstick. It’s the lipstick that I use every single day and I actually am running out of it in the near future. I just think that it’s such a perfect colour my my complexion.
I also really love the formula on this lipstick. It’s a really glossy and comfortable lipstick with a really pretty sheer finish. It makes my lips look more healthy and it adds the prettiest colour. It also makes my lips feel softer since it’s actually pretty hydrating. I think the lipsticks from this range are by far the best lipsticks in the whole wide world and this shade in particular is just mind-blowingly stunning. I love, love, love it sooooo much!
Brushes
Moving on to brushes, since those are definitely very important for doing makeup. This year was the year I started updating my brush collection. Two of my favourite new additions to my brush collection are both from Bobbi Brown. The first one is the Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush. This is the most amazing multi-purpose face brush I own. The hairs of this brush are so incredibly soft and you can literally do anything with this from applying bronzer, blush or highlighter to powdering you face. It’s the best thing in the world!
The other favourite new brush from Bobbi Brown is the Bobbi Brown Powder Brush. It’s the most expensive brush I ever bought but also my favourite one. It’s, just like the Face Blender, the softest brush ever and it also has the perfect shape for applying powder all over the face. It works so incredibly well for me, I love it to pieces!
Shower
The next category is all about shower products. Since I shower everyday and I like to switch up the products I use everyday I have discovered a lot of great products throughout the year. I think that my very favourite shower product of 2018 is the The Body Shop Almond Milk & Honey Shower Cream. This whole Almond Milk & Honey range is by far the best smelling collection I know of, and I love the shower gel from this range. It has such a warm scent but with a touch of sweetness from the honey. It feels so calming and moisturising on the skin. It is the best product ever and the one thing I need everyone to try, just because it’s so amazing!
Another shower product that has rocked my world is the Caudalie Des Vignes Shower Gel. I bought this a couple of years ago back in Lille and I still love it to death. It’s such a luxurious smelling product. It makes me feel to feminine and a bit French. It’s amazing!
Bodycare
The very last category I want to talk about with you guys is body care. My favourite discovery of the year has to be the Body Yogurts from The Body Shop. These are the most incredible body products I know. The formula is really light and fresh and it still is super moisturising. The scents on these yogurts are really nice and intense and they make me smell amazing all day long. I am so hooked on these, especially the one from the Almond Milk & Honey collection. It’s the best!
Another big favourite of the year in terms of body care are the Body Creams from Rituals. I have bought quite a lot this year and I’m so in love with them. I have always known that I like them, but I never realised how much I actually loved them until this year. Their formula is so amazing. They are creamy, they are rich and they are so easy to work with. They do a great job at moisturising the skin and they also smell amazing. I really think everyone should try one of those!
And with that being said this post is coming to an end. Thank you guys so much for reading my blogs in 2018 and I hope you enjoyed reading the last one of 2018 as well. And obviously: be sure to let me know which products rocked your 2018!
