Throughout the last couple of months it has become more and more clear to me that there are different styles of makeup. Different things that are popular and things that you see everywhere. Back in the day I used to be very in the know about these trends, but nowadays I’m not. I don’t know what’s going on and somehow I feel like I’m stuck in what I used to like. I’m not saying this is a bad thing at all, I love having my own style. And I certainly love this style, otherwise I wouldn’t be rocking it. But the point is that it seemed different from what you’re seeing on Instagram these days and therefore I thought it might be fun to write about it. So in this post I’m going to tell you all about my makeup style and what brands I’m hyped about. If you’re interested in reading about that, make sure you continue reading this post!
My makeup style
Let’s start off by talking about what my style is. I’m a big fan of natural makeup, but not no-makeup makeup. For everyday wear where I live this is pretty heavy makeup. Comparing it to the beauty community however it might be rather natural. I just don’t like to cake it on. I don’t like heavy makeup and I’m not a full-coverage foundation kinda gal. I actually really love sheer foundations or tinted moisturisers these days. I love how they perfect your complexion while they are very natural looking. I also love if they give me some sort of natural glow. Even though I have oily skin, I don’t want everything to be so matte.
In terms of eyeshadows I like it shimmery. I have this way of building my look that I’ve been doing for the past couple of years and still love doing. I apply a cream shadow, put a light shadow on top, put a transition colour and a darker shade in the crease and if I want to go all out I might do a little line across my lash line with a dark brown shadow.
I don’t like heavy contouring. I hardly ever do it and I have never really cream contoured before. I do have one kind of cream contour stick but I use it in a more natural way you probably can’t really call contouring. I think it’s too much for everyday and not needed.
In terms of lip products I’m all about sheer and glossy. I absolutely hate the matte lip trend. I like the look on others but I feel like it makes me look dead and it’s hella uncomfortable. I’m just not on that trend and I can never see myself getting on it either. I don’t like heavy lipstick in general either, I like it sheer, just like my foundation.
All in all I like things natural, glowy and sheer. I like to go shimmery on the eyes and glossy on the lips. I like a more classic approach. Nothing too crazy, just a little bit of everything.
Brands that match my style
Obviously when you have a certain style in makeup there are brands that have a similar style. These days there are a ton of super popular brands that are apparently really incredible but just not for me. Think about brands like Huda Beauty, Morphe, whatnot. Those kinds of super popular ‘Instagram’ famous brands are just not up my alley. I feel like the products they make aren’t really appropriate for my style and therefore I don’t really care all that much for them.
A couple of brands that do really match my style are Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dior, Hourglass and Laura Mercier. These brands are all very popular as well, but not like Huda Beauty and Morphe are. It’s different. It’s really difficult to describe what I’m trying to say here, but I hope someone will understand. Anyway, these brands that do match my style have exactly what I’m looking for. Think about the super pretty and glowy YSL Touche Eclat Foundation or the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturisers. I love that stuff. Or the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine which are some of my favourite sheer, glossy lipsticks.
Of course these brands also have products that are more Instagram-proof. Of course they do, that’s what’s hot now and they want to sell. Think about the whole Backstage range from Dior, that’s a bit more like what’s hot now. But most of the products in these brands ranges are more of my style and that’s why I love them so much.
In conclusion I think that my style is a bit more simple and, in my opinion, elegant. I’m definitely not bashing on any other makeup style, I do really respect that and I’m actually very impressed by how well these girls can contour and stuff. But it’s just not me.
With that being said I think it’s time to end today’s post and ask you one burning question. I’m really curious to find out what your makeup style is like. Do you like the popular Instagram makeup or are you more natural and glowy like I am? Let me know!
