One of the products that came inside May’s LF Beaty Box was this eyeshadow, this baked eyeshadow, by the brand Mellow. I had received a product from this brand once before in a previous box so I was slightly familiar with it already, but I haven’t tried much of them yet. After giving the shadow a good whirl I figured it was about time for me to review it. If you’re interested in finding out more about this affordable beauty, make sure you continue reading!
The Mellow Baked Eyeshadow comes in a relatively simple packaging. The bottom part is made out of black plastic and the lid is clear and has the name of the brand on it. It’s very simple and usually I’m a huge fan of that. In this case I definitely don’t hate it, but I don’t think it’s the prettiest packaging of all. Since the packaging says nothing about the product itself it’s pretty much irrelevant, but I just like to mention it.
Before going into the details of the product itself I do quickly want to talk about the brand Mellow. Mellow is a reasonable new brand (at least it is to me) designed and developed in New Zealand. They have a whole range of makeup filled with everything you need for an affordable price. It’s available on their own shop and on Lookfantastic. What I really like about the brand is that their products do look really, really good. They seem to be very high quality and all of that for such an affordable price. I think that’s great!
Mellow Baked Eyeshadow in Peach – €7,45
The shadow I received is called Peach. It’s a very shimmery champagne colour with a peachy tone to it. I think it’s a unique shade, it’s like nothing I already have and I also think it’s a very pretty shade. It’s the perfect shade to lighten and brighten up your look but it’s also perfect as a highlighter for the face. It’s the perfect multi-tasking colour.
Aside from having a really pretty colour, this baked eyeshadow also has a gorgeous finish. Just like most baked shadows it’s very shimmery but it also has this metallic touch to it. It’s not the most metallic shadow in the world, but it does have a sprinkle of the metallic goodness to it and that’s just perfect.
The quality of the shadow is pretty impressive in my opinion. It has been a while since I last used a baked shadow. My last experience with baked shadows wasn’t that impressive and ever since then I just stopped caring about them at all. This shadow put baked eyeshadow back on the radar for me. The baked shadows I remember were dry, hard and barely had any colour pay off. This one, luckily, isn’t anything like that.
Unlike other baked shadows this one has a very soft and silky texture. The colour pay off is insane. You only have to touch the product very lightly in order to pick some of the shadow up and transfer it onto your lids. It’s really incredible. The only teeny tiny downside when it comes to the texture is the fact that it is slightly powdery. Aside from that it’s just amazing!
Pigmentation wise this shadow definitely isn’t a bummer. Not at all! It’s actually very impressive. Since it is a rather affordable product I did expect it to look good, but not this good. It really wowed me. It’s such an intense and pigmented colour. And trust me I didn’t press on the shadow very hard in order to get the swatch to look like this. I actually touched it very gently.
When blending the shadow does lose some of its intensity so sometimes I do feel like it’s necessary to re-apply a little bit in order to get it to the intensity that I like again, but that’s not a big deal to me. For this price it’s actually pretty impressive.
Overall I have nothing more to say about this shadow than that I’m impressed. Very impressed. I expected a hard, dry and chalky shadow but this turned out to be a very rich, pigmented and gorgeous looking shadow. It’s definitely one of the better eyeshadows I have ever tried and it could definitely get away as a high-end shadow, but it’s not. And that’s what I like about it. High quality for a reasonable price. Good job Mellow!
And that was it for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review and be sure to let me know if you have ever heard of the brand Mellow and also let me know what you think of this shadow!
XOXO, Nicole.
