Marc Jacobs Longwear Lip Set

11/03/2018

I discovered the Marc Jacobs Beauty products not too long ago. I believe it was two years ago since I bought my first product from the brand. I immediately fell in love with the luxury of the brand and I loved the quality of the products that I have tried so far. Therefore I wanted to grow my Marc Jacobs Beauty collection for a bit by buying this adorable little lip set called the Marc Jacobs Longwear Lip Set. It has been a while since I bought it, which is the case in most of my most recent reviews, but today I’m finally reviewing it. If you’re interested in finding out more about this little set, make sure you continue reading!

First things first: the packaging. This little set comes in a classic Marc Jacobs Beauty box. The front of the box is black and the sides are white. The packaging is very sleek and classy and I like it a lot. I think it looks very luxurious and professional and definitely very Marc Jacob-y. Inside the box you’ll find a lot of tissue paper and inside this paper you’ll find the two products that come with the set: the lip pencil and the lipstick.

Both products that come inside this set are mini versions of the full sizes. I did know that when I bought it, obviously, considering the price that’s just a logical thing, however, I didn’t expect them to be this small. Especially the lipstick is just a teeny tiny little lipstick and that’s not what I expected it to be. However, you do get a reasonable amount of product, I think it’s just the packaging that makes everything look very small.

Marc Jacobs Longwear Lip Set – €21,- (available at Sephora)

Both products that come in this set come in the same shade which is called Slow Burn. Slow Burn could be described as a pink colour with a cool, purple undertone. It’s natural yet a little more funky than your usual natural lip colour and I really like that about it. I like the hint of purple in it because it makes it a bit more outrageous without being over the top and unwearable for natural days. I also like that the pencil is the same exact shade as the lipstick itself because that way you can create a very natural looking effect when you use both products together, instead of creating a darker outline.

Before I jump into any details let’s just say that I have never tried any of the Marc Jacobs Beauty lip products, but I have heard many good things about them. I have seen a ton of swatches of them and they always look so incredibly rich and creamy. Thanks to that I do have pretty high expectations when it comes to these two products, so I’m very curious to see how they turn out for me.

Let’s start off with talking about the pencil. The Marc Jacobs (P)outliner Longwear Lip Pencil is a gel-based luxury lip liner that will define and shape your lips, creating the perfect lasting canvas for your lip colour. They are designed to work seamlessly with the full spectrum of Le Marc and New Nudes shades. These lip liners are supposed to compliment every lip colour, no matter how light, bright or bold. They are formulated with collagen to help fill in lines and prevent bleeding and the cream gel formula is supposed to glide on flawlessly for all-day wear.

In other words this lip pencil is supposed to have an amazing formula and it’s supposed to stay in place all day and prevent your lipstick from bleeding. It seems as if this pencil is going to be all you ever want when it comes to a lip liner.

And in fact I do agree with what Marc is telling us about the product. Even though this pencil is a matte finish pencil, it’s a very creamy and comfortable product to wear on your lips. It really glides on to the lips and it does actually stay in place incredibly well. I actually agree with every single thing Marc has said about it. It is incredibly easy to apply, it makes my lipstick pop more than it would otherwise and it really helps with the staying power.

Marc Jacobs (P)outliner Longwear Lip Pencil in Slow Burn – €19,50 (full size)

Moving on to the Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème. According to Marc Jacobs this is a colour-rich, creamy lipstick in a sleek black case. In just one sensual swipe this lipstick should deliver indulgent colour that lasts all day long. The unprecedented colour payoff comes from the concentrated colour-boosting pigments that are triple-milled and enriched with hydrating ingredients, imparting ultimate long-lasting colour and moisture. This lipstick is supposed to make your lips feel instantly plumped and nourished from powerful peptides, antioxidant-rich seaberry and natural humectants, including meranti and cocoa butter. The subtle vanilla taste and scent mimic a decadent dessert.

All together Marc Jacobs makes it sound as if this is the most luxurious and perfect lipstick ever. I really like the way they described it. It actually makes me want to buy a lot more shades from the range.

Anyway, Marc can say it’s all these amazing things, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a good product. Luckily for me it is. It is actually just as amazing as I expected it to be and that really satisfies me. Whenever I have very high hopes for a product I often end up feeling disappointed, but in this case that didn’t happen.

Marc Jacobs Le Marc Lip Crème in Slow Burn – €29,50 (full size)

The reason for that is both the colour, the way it feels on the lips but also the formula of this lipstick. This is literally one of the most creamy and rich lipsticks in the world. And like Marc Jacobs tells us, only one sensual swipe of this lipstick is enough to get that opaque colour payoff. I’m really impressed by that. The lipstick really glides onto the lips in a very luxurious feeling way.

It also wears pretty comfortably. It’s not one of those lipsticks that is going to dry out your lips and create dry patches. Instead this lipstick is actually rather moisturising. It feels soft and comfortable on the lips like a lip balm, without feeling to heavy. I’m a huge fan of that.

One more thing Marc claimed about this lipstick is that it would stay in place all day long. That might be the only claim I don’t completely agree with. I do agree with the fact that this is one of the most longlasting lipsticks I have ever tried, especially when it comes to creamy lipsticks, but all day long is a bit of an exaggeration. The staying power obviously depends on whether or not you’re wearing the lip pencil underneath, but either way, it won’t stay in place all day long.

Only Marc Jacobs (P)outliner – Marc Jacobs (P)outliner + Le Marc Lip Crème

Okay, let’s talk pigmentation. On the top picture I’m only wearing the Marc Jacobs (P)outliner. As you can tell this is a very opaque product. It covers up my lips completely and I really like how easy it went on as well. Another thing I really like is that it actually does a great job at concealing the fine lines on my lips. It completely smoothes them out. On its own I wouldn’t necessarily wear it just because I do think that, even though this pencil does have a rather comfortable formula, it’s not comfortable enough to wear it on its own, but in combination with a creamy lipstick I do really like it.

The lipstick is just as pretty as the lip liner, if not prettier. I personally really love me some creamy finishes so this lipstick really is up my alley. It’s so extremely comfortable, I love how pigmented it is and I love how well it wears throughout the day. It’s just a very high-quality lipstick and in combination with the lip liner it’s just a power couple. I think this is an amazing little set!

Overall I’m a huge fan of this Marc Jacobs Longwear Lip Set. I think it’s a rather affordable way to try out some of the Marc Jacobs lip products and I’m glad I decided to go for it. I have always wanted to try one of the Le Marc Lip Crèmes and I’m really glad I finally did so because it’s one of the most gorgeous lipsticks that has ever touched my lips. Yup, I highly recommend getting a set like this one if you ever run into one!

That’s pretty much it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this Longwear Lip Set and also let me know if you have any experience with the Marc Jacobs Beauty lip products!
