Lately I’ve been testing out a ton of new foundations. Foundations I’ve been curious about for a while and even a few that I recently discovered. One of the foundations I was most excited about trying is the Marc Jacobs Genius Gel foundation. Back in Warsaw I purchased the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Foundation which I really enjoyed so I was very curious to see if the Genius Gel Foundation would be just as amazing. I’ve been trying it out for a long time now, which is why I felt like today was the right day to finally review it. If you’re interested in finding out what this foundation is like and whether or not it’s just as amazing as the Marc Jacobs Re(Marc)able Foundation, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with packaging, like we usually do. The Marc Jacobs Beauty products come in very classic and elegant packagings. The box is black on the front and white on the sides. It has the name of the brand written on the front and the name of the product, but not much else. It’s very simple and clean. The bottle itself isn’t very different. The bottle part is made out of frosted glass and has Marc Jacobs written on the front. The pump is silver and the lid is black. I really like the look of it, maybe even more than the look of the Re(marc)able foundation.
The bottle has a decent size and comes with 30 ml of product or 1.0 Fl. Oz. which is pretty standard for foundation. It’s not necessarily a foundation that is so blendable you only need a little bit of it but you also don’t need a ton of product to cover your entire face with it, so this bottle will probably last you as long as most other foundations.
Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation – €42,50
I got the foundation in the lightest shade which is called 10 Ivory. Surprisingly enough, the lightest shades in the Marc Jacobs foundations are actually very light and definitely light enough for my pale skin. There aren’t a ton of really deep shades in the range, but there are a ton of medium shades available. So even though the shade range doesn’t include everyone, it does include a ton of skin tones and that’s already a big plus.
To find out what this foundation claims to be and to do I went on the Sephora website. According to them this foundation has medium coverage, it’s for all skin types and it has a satin, radiant and natural finish. They also say that it’s a long-wearing gel foundation that supports anti-aging and awakens your skin to its ideal radiance and clarity. It minimises imperfections while its revitalising multi-vitamins provide supreme hydration for even application and luxurious wear. Lastly they also claim that the coverage is buildable.
Overall it sounds like the most amazing foundation ever. I first of all really like gel formulas when it comes to foundations, I feel like gel foundations apply really nicely, they feel very lightweight on the skin and they tend to look very natural. I also like the fact that the coverage is supposed to be buildable since I do like to apply an extra layer on my cheeks where I have a little more to cover. And of course the fact that it’s supposed to be long-wearing is always a good thing. I mean, who doesn’t want their foundation to last all day?
But is it true? Is it as amazing as it claims to be? Well, in short I think it is. But of course you guys don’t need a short version, you want to know why it is amazing, how it performs and how you can tell those claims are true, so that’s what we’re going to talk about.
Let’s start off with the texture. Like I said this is a gel foundation which means that it has a very smooth texture. This smooth texture doesn’t just feel and look nice, it also has an effect on the application process. Thanks to the smooth texture the foundation glides really easily onto the skin, it blends seamlessly and it doesn’t require any effort at all. It’s such an effortless foundation and it’s so quick to work with. I really like that about it.
The coverage is another amazing factor. Like Sephora says this foundation has medium coverage, but it’s buildable. And I have to say it’s definitely medium to high, not just medium. When you build it up it will become pretty much full coverage so that’s perfect if your skin is being a little out of control. It covers up all of my scarring, redness and also my blemishes. It creates one smooth and flawless base for the rest of my makeup and I really like the look of that.
I also love the finish of this foundation. Even though I wouldn’t call this a matte foundation, it does have a rather matte finish, but not in a dry way. It’s definitely not a drying foundation and I also think it’s great for people with somewhat drier skin who do want to wear a rather matte foundation. It’s very hard for me to describe, but I think a satin finish is the most perfect way to describe what the finish looks like.
Throughout the day the Marc Jacobs Genius Gel foundation stays in place perfectly. It does get a little shiny on my nose after a couple of hours, but that’s it. Aside from that nothing else changes about the way the foundation looks or feels on my skin. And that’s a great thing. It lasts all day and it doesn’t get shiny, greasy or just weird. It doesn’t bunch up around my nose or in between my brows, it just looks good all day long.
Overall I think the Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Super-Charged Foundation is a great product. I first of all really like that the shade matches my skin tone so well. I also like the texture of it, it’s very smooth and easy to apply. I like how effortless it is, it doesn’t require any effort at all to get it to look good. The coverage is amazing and also buildable and aside from that it just has the most amazing finish ever. It stays in place all day and it’s just one of those fool-proof products. I’m a big fan!
With that being said it’s time for me to end today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know which foundation is your current favourite!
