At the beginning on July MAC launched this amazing collection in collaboration with Steve J. and Joni P. I had no idea who those people were, but what I did know was that the collection looked absolutely incredible and extremely adorable. Sadly I only discovered the collection when everything was sold out, so I wasn’t able to buy anything from it anymore. But for some unknown reason there was a restock and therefore I was able to get it anyway. So, I ended up getting the Steve J. & Joni P. X MAC Powder Blush in Sugar Or Syrup and today it’s time for me to review it. If you’re interested in finding out more about this blush, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with packaging, one of the main reasons why I was so drawn to this product. The Steve J. & Joni P. collection come in limited edition packagings. That does happen more often with these LE collections, but it doesn’t happen all the time. The boxes the products come in are yellow and have an eye on them, a nose, a mouth and a cheek. It looks very unique and modern, but I do love the look of it. The blush itself comes in a pretty cool packaging as well. It has a silver lining and the clear part is decorated with the eye and nose and the names of the designers in a really cool font. I just think it looks very unique and pretty and I like that about it.
The Steve J. & Joni P. X MAC collection is quite a big one. There are two eyeshadow duos, two blushes, three lipsticks, there is a palette with six lip colours and an eye gloss. All products looked pretty appealing to me, and even though I’m usually not that crazy about blush I decided to go with the blush because I thought that was the prettiest product out of the entire collection.

Like I said there are two shades of blush in this collection. There’s a very pinky shade called Pink Petal and there’s a more peachy tone called Sugar Or Syrup. The only one they restocked was Sugar Or Syrup so that’s the one I bought. I have to say that this was my favourite out of the two so if both of them would’ve been available, I’d still bought this one.
Sugar Or Syrup is a very unique blush. It’s a very cute pink colour but it also has a bit of peach to it. It’s a very soft shade and it does remind me a lot of spring, all though it’s also perfect as an all year round blush colour of course. It’s a very soft and sweet colour and a very cutesie one. Usually I’m all about the berry cheeks, but this colour just really stole my heart. And by the way, how adorable is that name ‘Sugar Or Syrup’?!
After I bought the blush I went ahead and watched some videos on Youtube about it and I read some blog posts. I know I should’ve done that before hand, but it wasn’t to see whether I would like it but to find out some more information about it. One of the things that really caught my attention was the texture of the product. According to the lady in the video this shade has a really nice satiny finish. The other blush, Pink Petal, was more of a matte according to her and therefore that shade didn’t have as nice of a texture as Sugar Or Syrup.
And that satin finish is not something you can only feel, you can also tell by looking at it. Even though this isn’t a shimmy or shiny blush, it does have this sheen to it. This very settle sheen. It looks like a matte blush, but it has a little extra to it. That really nice and delicate sheen. This satin sheen gives the blush a very luxurious feel and look. I can’t really describe why, but for me that’s just the way it is.
Aside from the satiny feel, the other factors that influence the texture are great too. This blush isn’t powdery at all, it’s not dusty and after using it the pan isn’t filled with a lot of loose powder. However, the colour pay off it amazing. It isn’t a blush you really have to build up with a million layers in order for it to show up. It’s also not one of those overly pigmented blushes, but it is definitely a pigmented one.
What surprised me about this blush is how easy it is to work with. You don’t have to put any effort into it. You just move the brush over your face and your done. It almost just blends itself into the skin. It looks so soft and natural and so well blended. But it’s also not too natural, your cheeks do look a little more pink when you’re wearing this. And I know that seems like an obvious thing, but in my experience lots of blushes don’t really show up that well. This one really does make a difference.
As you can tell from the swatch this blush has the right amount of pigmentation and it really has that stunning sheen to it. It was very hard for me to describe in words, but I hope that this picture shows what I meant and that now everything makes sense. Aside from the amazing pigmentation and the gorgeous satin finish I also think that the colour looks stunning. Isn’t this the perfect blush shade for literally every one. I can’t think of a skin tone this wouldn’t look good on, it’s just gorgeous!
The staying power of this blush isn’t a joke either. This baby stays in place all day long. It really does. It really amazes me how amazing the quality of the blush is. Of course it’s not the cheapest blush in the world, but there are definitely more expensive ones that don’t hold up so well as this little guy and that’s very impressive to me.
Overall I’m just in love. From the packaging to the quality, everything about this blush is just incredibly amazing. Products like this actually motivate me to work so I’m able to buy more of this amazingness. I’m obsessed with the shade of it, it just looks incredible and it looks stunning with everything and on everyone. The satin finish is just a big win for me and the fact that it stays in place all day makes it even better. If you’re able to get your hands on it, I highly recommend doing so. It’s worth it!
And even though there is a lot more to say about this blush, this will be everything for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review, and be sure to let me know what you think of this blush and if you have bought anything from the amazing Steve J. & Joni P. X MAC collection!
