First of all I have to admit that the only Nicki Minaj song I know is Super Bass and I’m just not that into her music, but from the moment I saw the two limited edition lipsticks she was coming out with in collaboration with MAC I knew I had to get my hands on one. They were supposed to come out on September first but a couple days before I actually found them on the Douglas website and ordered one. I ended up getting the shade Nicki’s Nude, which is the one I’m going to be reviewing today. So, if you’re interested in finding out whether or not this lipstick is worth the money, make sure you continue reading!
One of the things that made me want to get this lipstick is the packaging. I’m just a huge sucker for limited edition packagings. This lipstick comes in the same packaging as regular MAC lipsticks, but it has a different design. The packaging has a metallic coral colour and has Nicki’s signature on it. It’s not the prettiest design in the world, but I do really like it. I like that it’s different and unique. I mean I’ve never seen a packaging like this before. How cute is it? And the pinky/coral colour does help as well.
The Nicki and MAC collaboration consists out of a lot of new lipstick shades but only two actually come in a limited edition packaging and are actually designed by Nicki Minaj herself. Both shades are supposed to be nude for people with a similar skintone as Nicki Minaj’. The lightest one is called Pinkprint and the slightly darker nude is called Nicki’s Nude. Because Pinkprint seemed a bit too light and too doll-like for me I ended up going for Nicki’s Nude which is a little warmer and more rosy toned.
MAC x Nicki Minaj Lipstick in Nicki’s Nude – €19,50
Nicki’s Nude is one of the prettiest and most unique nude lipstick colours I’ve seen so far. It’s not that basic and I like it. Because I’m very pale this won’t look as nude on me as it would on people who are a little more tanned than I am, but that’s okay. I still think it looks stunning. Anyway, the colour of the lipstick could be described as a warm nude colour with a peachy tone to it but also a hint of brown. It looks like a regular nude colour but with a more special twist than usual. It’s hard to describe, but I hope this makes any sense.
From the pictures I saw online and the video from Nikkietutorials, in which she tested the two MAC x Nicki Minaj lipsticks, Nicki’s Nude seemed a little more coral and dark than it is in real life. I personally do like corals so if it would have been more of a coral I wouldn’t have minded that, but I like that it’s a little more toned down than that since these are supposed to be nude lipsticks and that was the kind of thing I was going for here.
Moving on to quality. The MAC amplified cream lipsticks are supposed to be very rich, creamy and super pigmented. I recently tried out my first amplified cream which was exactly that so I had high hopes for this one. One thing I was a little scared of was ruining the lipstick since Nikkietutorials showed that when you use these amplified creams they can get indentations where it hits the packaging and even though looks don’t matter in the tube, it’s not something you want.
In my experience however this doesn’t happen. My lipstick doesn’t have any indentations on the sides or anything like that. I feel like it might be because I’m not using as heavy of a hand as Nikkie does in her video, but obviously that’s just a speculation of mine.
Anyway, back to the texture. Like all amplified cream lipsticks from MAC this lipstick indeed has a very creamy and rich texture. It glides onto the lips so easily and smoothly and it just feels incredible. You can also feel the richness, the butteriness, which is a good thing. It just feels like a very comfortable lipstick to wear that isn’t going to be drying. It’s actually pretty hydrating.
The pigmentation of the lipstick is absolutely incredible as well. Just one swipe of lipstick is enough to get a opaque result and that’s a big bonus. This way the lipstick will last you a lot longer than if you would have to go over your lips a million times before you get it to look opaque. However, if you’re not a huge fan of very pigmented lip colours and you do prefer something a little more sheer this might not be the perfect lipstick for you. Of course you can apply it using an extremely light hand or just dab a little onto your lips using your finger, but straight out of the tube it might be hard for you to get that sheer finish.
The lasting power of the lipstick is, again, amazing. There really isn’t anything about this lipstick that I don’t like. The lipstick stays in place so well. Yes it is transferable, but even if it transfers onto literally anything the colour will still stay on your lips for at least 4 to 5 hours. Maybe even longer. That’s just impressive to me and I really like that about it. It’s a huge bonus!
Overall this MAC x Nicki Minaj lipstick is just incredible. I love the limited edition packaging, the shade is absolutely stunning even for my pale skin and the quality is just mind blowing. It has such a creamy and rich texture that goes onto the lips so extremely nicely. It’s also super, super pigmented and it stays in place for such a long time! I’m super impressed and therefore I highly recommend getting it while you still can!
And that’s basically it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of the MAC x Nicki Minaj collaboration!
Zo mooi!
