Oh my lord. Ever since I first saw the press pictures of the new MAC x Mariah Carey limited edition I knew I was going to buy something. I’ve never been the biggest MAC fan and I never really feel like trying hard to get my hands on one of their limited editions, but this collection looked so gorgeous I decided to change my ways and go for it this one time. I ended up buying the gorgeous eyeshadow quad in the shade It’s Everything. Today I’m going to review it. If you’re interested in finding out more about it, make sure you continue reading!
Well let’s start off with discussing the packaging, aka the main reason why I wanted this palette so bad. The palette comes inside a little box that is half gold half glittery. It looks very classy and girly and perfect for the holiday season. I really like the look of it.
When you open it up you’ll find the actual product. It comes in a really pretty packaging. The bottom part is matte gold and the lid is clear with a silver glittery lining. It looks so incredibly pretty and festive. It’s seriously one of the most gorgeous MAC packagings I have ever seen. The thing about it that did disappoint me was the fact that the material the packaging is made of feels very cheapy. It looks like it’s a million dollars, but it feels like it’s 10 bucks.
Enough about the packaging, let’s move on to the product. There are two versions of this palette available: “I’m That Chick You Like” and “It’s Everything”. I really liked both but because the I’m That Chick You Like palette contained a very yellowy colour which I’d never use anything I ended up going for It’s Everything.
Inside this quad you get four shades:
- Diamond Butterfly (frost) – Diamond Butterfly is one of my favourite shades out of the four. It’s a very shimmery champagne colour that instantly brightens up the look and makes you look fresh and awake.
- I’d Give It My All (lustre) – I’d Give It My All is a very pretty cool toned taupe shade. It seems quite greyish but it definitely has some brown to it. I personally like using it all over the lid in combination with Diamond Butterfly, but it’s also a perfect shade to use in the crease.
- Twinks (veluxe pearl) – Twinks is a deep brown shade with a warm undertone and a reddish sheen to it. It’s a very unique colour and perfect to wear in the crease on a daily basis. It’s also a perfect shade to use to darken up the look.
- Images Of Rapture (velvet) – This last shade called Images Of Rapture is a very pretty deep brown shade with a very slight sheen to it. It’s almost matte and once applied to the crease it appears completely matte. It’s the perfect colour to take your look from a day time look to a party look but it’s also great for just adding that extra bit of definition to the crease.
The shades are all quite cool toned except for Twinks which is quite a warm eyeshadow. Even though it’s the only more warm toned colour in the palette I still think it matches really well with the other more cool shadows and therefore it’s still a very useful colour.
The quality of the shadows is just great. I have used some single eyeshadows by MAC, but I never owned one of their quads so I wasn’t sure whether or not that would make any difference in quality. I have to say that pigmentation wise it’s either just as amazing as the regular single MAC eyeshadows if not better.
The texture of all shadows is just very great. They’re soft, they apply really easily, you don’t have to build up the colour in order to get it intense and they’re just very easy to work with in general. The blending process is really quickly with these eyeshadows, but it’s not like you blend the colour away. It’s just great.
Even though you only get four colours in this palette I still think you can go lots of ways with it. You can go very natural by using the shimmery champagne shade only and a bit of the brown shade in the crease but you can also go all out and put Twinks all over the lid in order to get a nice smokey effect.
For me it’s the perfect palette to create and everyday look with and therefore I think it’s totally worth the money!
Overall I think this palette is very pretty and diverse. I’ve been using it an awful ton since I got it and I’m really glad I decided to buy it. It’s one of my current favourite eyeshadow palettes and therefore I highly recommend getting it while you still can!
The MAC Mariah Carey Eyeshadow Quad is available at Maccosmetics.nl/.com for €43,-.
