MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NC15

11/10/2018

The MAC Pro Longwear Concealer has been around for ages and it has been a pretty popular product for a long time as well. However, for some reason I was never very interested in trying MAC concealers. I once tried one and it was okay but not amazing, I believe it was the Select Cover Up. However, recently I read a review from Teddy about the Pro Longwear Concealer and that made me think that this one might actually be quite up my alley. So I ended up buying it and I have been testing it for a while now. In today’s review I’m going to let you guys know my opinion about it. So if you’re interested in reading about that, make sure you continue reading this post!

The MAC Pro Longwear Concealer comes in this little glass bottle with a pump on it. It’s been in a packaging like this for ages and even though I initially liked the look of it, there was something about it that made me consider not buying this. It does look like a mini foundation and a pump is always a nice thing on these kinds of products. It’s easy to work with and it’s very hygienic. However, a lot of people around the internet have said that this pump system sucks. They say that you can’t dose the amount of product you want to pump out of the bottle, which results in getting way too much product out and therefore either having to apply too much concealer or waisting like a third of your bottle. Knowing that lots of people said that, I did consider not buying it because I don’t feel like waisting any product. There are a lot of concealers out there, so why would I go for one that does not work properly in terms of packaging?

However, I decided to just go for it and see what I think myself. And I have to tell you I wasn’t as disappointed with it as I thought I would be. In fact I don’t think that the problem is that big. Okay, if I only want a tiny bit of product to cover up like one pimple, the packaging is not ideal. However, for my daily concealing I can dose it in a way I don’t have to waste any product. You can get half a pump out. The thing is that the consistency of the concealer is just very fluid so a lot more product will come out with one pump than you’d expect. But to me that was just a thing I needed to get used to.

EDIT: Somehow when I wanted to grab the bottle out of my drawer the entire top part came off. The entire pump got loose and concealer was dripping out of the bottle. It’s not because I was being rough with it or because it has fallen, non of that has happened. So I don’t know what’s up with that, but it did shock me a little bit.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer – €22,50

Having said that, let’s talk about the shades. One thing I love about MAC is that they always come with tons of shades ranging from very fair to deeper tones. They also have different undertones in their shades and therefore I do think that it’s a pretty inclusive brand. I myself am very pale, so I ended up buying the shade NC15. This is the palest shade I could find and according to what I read the NC means not cool, so it’s a more yellow toned shade. This actually fits my skintone really well and it does look really natural on me. I think that the yellow tone in it also helps cancelling out the darkness underneath my eye and I think it’s really flattering.

According to MAC their Pro Longwear Concealer is a lightweight, fluid concealer that provides full coverage with a comfortable matte finish. It’s supposed to give the skin a smoother, more flawless looking finish. It’s supposed to help conceal flaws, dark spots, skin discolouration and under eye circles and it’s supposed to last for up to 15 hours.

I have to say that I do think these claims are pretty bold. I mean, promising full coverage is quite risky. Full coverage is like full coverage. Nothing will show through. That’s not something a lot of people can do right. I have pretty intense dark undereye circles and so far I’ve hardly ever found anything that came close to full coverage. Therefore I wasn’t sure whether MAC did themselves right by promising things like that. Obviously I was still very excited to see whether or not that was true for myself.

But before we start talking about that I did want to touch on the subject of texture again. In concealers I think texture is really important, especially if you’re going to be using it to cover up dark circles. You don’t want anything too thick and heavy but also not something that is very dry because that will accentuate the fine lines we all have in that area. This concealer actually has a pretty unique texture. It’s very, very liquidy and thin. Back in the day this wasn’t a very usual texture for full coverage concealers but nowadays we see it way more often. It’s probably just a very pigmented formula.

Anyway, because of the very liquidy formula a little bit of this product goes a very long way. It spreads out really far and just the tiniest bit will be enough to cover up both of your under eye circles. It does blend in really smoothly and easily and that’s something I like about it. You do have to work rather quick because it does dry really quickly. Normally I like to put if on all of the areas I want to conceal and then blend it out, but that’s not the best idea when using this concealer.

I have to say that the day I took this picture my under eyecircles weren’t as bad as they usually are. It was weekend so I had a little more time to sleep in. But well, they were still there. And as you can tell the concealer does do a great job at really freshening up the area. It covers up the purple for the most part and it makes me look a lot more awake. I do definitely see what it does and I do think that it makes a huge difference. It might even look like this in fact is a pretty full coverage concealer on this picture. On days where my undereye circles are a bit more extreme I do think that it’s not completely full coverage.

When using it on pimples I do think it acts really nice as well. It does take away most of the redness, but again, if it’s a really big, hot and gloomy pimple this concealer won’t fully cover it. I hardly know any concealer that would and this one definitely comes close. But full coverage is a big claim you guys.

In terms of finish I do like it. I do in fact feel like it makes my skin appear more smooth. I feel like that’s all thanks to the amazing texture of this concealer. It just feels really nice and smooth. It also looks really natural because it’s very fluid and because it dries down relatively matte. It does stay in place all day long.

All in all I have to say I am not disappointed by the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. It definitely met my expectations and in fact, I think it’s even better than I initially expected. It does have a nice, easy to work with formula and the coverage is pretty high up there. It makes my skin look more smooth and flawless. In addition to that it does an amazing job at freshening up my under eye area. Yup, I’m actually quite a big fan of this concealer and I’ll definitely continue using it throughout the next couple of months!

With that being said I think it’s time to end today’s post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know whether or not you’d use this concealer!

De concealer ziet er goed uit! Wel balen van de verpakking, dat vind ik zeker gezien de prijs wel een minpuntje. Maar als die dan je donkere kringen zo goed camoufleert, word ik toch wel benieuwd!
