One of the things my boyfriend gifted me on my birthday is this MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil. I had never heard of it before but I fell it love with it from the moment I saw it. Last year I was totally obsessed with lip crayons like this one and I kinda lost track of them throughout the months. I’m really glad I now have a new one so I can finally rediscover how amazing lip crayons are again. But that’s totally besides the point. The point is that today I’m going to review this product. If you’re interested in finding out how I ended up liking it and if it actually made me rediscover lip crayons, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with discussing the packaging. The MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil comes in a pretty basic MAC packaging. The box isn’t any different from any other MAC product and it looks just fine. The crayon does look really pretty. The packaging is almost entirely made out of a glittery black material and the bottom is made out of plastic that matches the colour of the product.
The thing I like about this packaging is that you don’t have to sharpen the pencil. I’m way too lazy for that and it also ruins the look of the packaging overtime. It also wastes a lot of product (sharpening it) and it’s just way easier that you just don’t have to. Good thinking MAC!
The colour my boyfriend got me is called Spontaneous. On the picture on the Douglas site it appears to be a pretty red shade, but in real life it’s quite different. Spontaneous is a rosy pink shade with the slightest bit of shimmer to it. Normally I’m not that into shimmery lip products, but since the shimmery is so subtle I actually really like the way it looks.
According to MAC these Patentpolish Lip Pencils are supposed to be a combination of a lipstick and a lip pencil. It’s supposed to have the precision of a lip pencil and the texture of a lipstick. I really like that and in my opinion that’s definitely what this is. It also says that it’s a hydrating product and that it keeps the lips soft without feeling heavy or sticky.
They don’t claim anything regarding the pigmentation, but as you can tell it’s quite pigmented for a glossy, hydrating lip product. Obviously when you buy something like this you won’t expect a burst of colour on your lips and I personally really like that. I like sheer lip products so I’m glad it turned out to be like this, but if you’re someone who does like bright and pigmented lip products you do need to keep in mind that that’s not what you’re going to get when you buy this product.
Finish wise it’s very glossy and it feels really nice. On the picture it looks really, really glossy, but in real life it’s more of a natural shine. I really like that about it. I know that matte products are all the range right now, but I just don’t like the way that feels on the lips. This feels way more comfortable and it won’t completely dry out my lips so that’s a plus too!
When it comes to staying power this lip product is actually better than I initially expected. Usually products like this, especially if they have a shiny/glossy finish, don’t last that long, but this one stayed in place for up to 4 hours, even if you talk a bunch. I wore it during a presentation for school and it did not budge. It’s incredible!
I’m really impressed by this product and I’m so glad my boyfriend gifted me this. It’s the perfect lip product for me and I’ve been wearing it a ton lately. I really love the shade and the texture is amazing too. It’s comfortable to wear, it’s moisturising and it stays in place for quite a few hours. This product is definitely a winner!
The MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil is available at MAC counters and online for €21,50.
