Back in 2015 I finally bought the famous MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in the shade Soft & Gentle. It was the highlighter everyone was talking about and I had to have it. These days it’s still super popular and I personally still like using it as well. However, somehow my review on it has disappeared and therefore I can’t link it whenever I mention it in a post. At some point this got so annoying to me I decided I just had to re-review it. So, four years later I’m coming at ya with a re-review of the famous MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle. If you’re interested in finding out what I think of it, make sure you continue reading this post!
So, MAC Soft & Gentle. This baby has been a staple for most beauty lovers since forever. The only thing that has changed about it throughout the years is the packaging. Back when I bought it they had just changed the packaging to this. The old packaging had a big clear middle part with the MAC logo on it, while now the packaging is more bulky and the black outside is much bigger. Back then I really hated the fact that I didn’t get my hands on the old packaging, but now I’m used to it so I’m fine with the way the packaging looks.
The packaging opens and closes with a magnet. This magnet is nice and solid so you definitely don’t have to worry about it opening up in your bag or anything like that. The front still has a clear part through which you can see the powder and that does look absolutely stunning.
In terms of size I feel like the packaging on this highlighter is rather big. The compact holds 10 grams of product and that sounds like quite a lot with me. This highlighter is baked, which means that it’s also pretty big in size. Because you only need the tiniest little bit of it, this compact will last you for ages. I have had it for four years now and it still has so many years to go. It might be a bit of an expensive product to buy, but if you consider how long it will last you it’s definitely worth it!
Fun fact: MAC does increase their pricing quite a lot throughout the years. When I bought it, I paid €29,50 for it! I’m curious to see what this will cost in let’s say 10 years hihi.

Okay, back to the highlighter. MAC Soft & Gentle is a very versatile highlighter that looks good on pretty much all skin tones. That’s because it’s a very standard colour with a nice balance of warm and cool tones to it. MAC calls this shade a gilded peach bronze. I have to say that somehow I can see where they are coming from, but I don’t really agree with them. I think it’s more of a champagne kind of colour. It definitely has some bronzy parts to it, but I don’t really like to call it a peach. Peach in a highlighter does sound pretty scary to me, since it makes me think that the highlighter is going to look orange on me. With this highlighter that’s definitely not the case and therefore I’d rather call it a champagne. But well, everybody can call it whatever they want right?!
As you might have noticed already, the Soft & Gentle Mineralized Skinfinish from MAC has a baked formula. This means that first of all looks really pretty, but also that it’s a very lightweight powder. I always find baked powders really nice and airy and not too heavy on the skin. They’re definitely one of my favourite. And these days you don’t see baked powders as much as you did back in the day anymore, which is why I appreciate this highlighter even more now.
Somehow it was very difficult for me to take a proper swatch-picture of this highlight, but I hope you can get a glimpse of what it looks like this way. I’m pretty sure most of you guys are already familiair with this highlighter so it doesn’t matter anyway. Long story short: it looks stunning. It’s a nice and opaque shine that this product adds to your cheeks. It’s very flattering and, depending on how much you apply, it can also look nice and natural. I always love a highlight that you can notice from every angle, but doesn’t look like you have a mirror attached to your cheekbones. And this highlighter gives me exactly that. I love it!
Another thing I love about the MAC Soft & Gentle highlighter more than ever is that it stays in place for so long. I had never noticed it back in the day, but this puppy doesn’t budge. Okay, if you’re constantly grabbing your cheeks it will disappear, but if you live your life without doing anything crazy this stuff stays in place all day long. It keeps you looking like a glow baby until the very last second.
All in all I literally have no negative thing to say about this highlighter. But the thing is, I’ve gone through a period of like two years without touching this highlighter once. And I really just can’t wrap my head around why I didn’t use it for so long. I mean, I absolutely love it, it’s stunning and the quality is amazing!
Well, I’m obviously really glad I finally fell back in love with this amazingly gorgeous highlighter. So much I even decided to do a re-review on it! But seriously guys, this is just a fool-proof highlighter. A product that will look good on anything and anyone and the quality is just unbeatable. I’m really glad this was my first (high-end) highlighter and I’m glad I’m using it again!
And with that being said I think it’s time to end today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading it and be sure to let me know if you’re a fan of Soft & Gentle as well!
