When it comes to setting sprays I think the MAC Prep + Prime Fix+ is one of the most popular sprays out there. I feel like everybody uses it, knows about it and loves it. For some reason I never really felt the need to buy it, I used other setting sprays that worked just fine for me, but recently I changed my mind about it and bought it. I’ve been using it for quite a while now so I feel like it’s about time for me to review it. If you’re interested in finding out what I think of the MAC Fix+ setting spray and if I think it’s worth the hype or not, make sure you continue reading this post!
Let’s start off with packaging. I think it’s a pretty basic but professional looking packaging. That’s kind of MAC’s theme when it comes to the design of their products. The bottle is made out of frosted plastic and feels quite soft to the touch. The lid or pump is made out of black rubberised plastic and has a little lock system so you can safely put it in your bag if you’re on the go. The bottle isn’t extremely large but compared to other setting sprays I don’t think it’s that small either. It comes with 100 ml of product which is pretty standard for a setting spray.
On the Douglas website the MAC Prep + Prime Fix + Spray is advertised as a primer spray. I don’t really know if that’s actually true since I always thought that the Fix + spray was a setting spray, but well, it is what it is. I like using it as a setting spray but apparently it also works as a primer. In other words: it’s a multifunctional product. I personally wouldn’t really use it as a primer because I don’t think it makes that big of a difference that way, but you obviously have to do what you want to do with it.

Moving on to the claims. On the MAC website they are quite brief about this product. They are telling us that this spray is packed with vitamins and minerals that refresh the skin and fixate your makeup. It creates a smooth surface so your makeup can go on even smoother.
So yeah, that’s not a lot of information and it’s not anything too exciting, but it is what it is and I can appreciate that. At least we can be sure that they’re not trying to oversell this product or trying to make it sound more amazing than it can actually be. After all it is just a setting spray and what more can a setting spray do than fixate your makeup and creating a smooth base?
Anyway, what does become clear thanks to the claim is that this product can be used for different purposes. It could be used underneath your makeup as a base but also on top of your makeup to fixate your makeup. I actually had no idea that it was meant to be used for both purposes, so I was pleasantly surprised when I found out about that. Personally I will probably just use it for setting purposes because I already have a ton of great products for priming the skin, but it’s always nice to know that you have options isn’t it?!
But does it actually do something for me? Well in general I have to say that this product does do its job pretty decently, but it’s not the perfect product for my skin. I do have rather oily skin so I do need my makeup be rather matte when I apply it. However, this product does take away the powdery effect and therefore a big part of the mattifying effect a powder has. I know that most setting sprays do that, but if I compare it to my Urban Decay Deslick Setting Spray this is a little extreme. That spray actually keeps me matte all day and takes away the powdery effect, while this spray takes away the powdery effect but does make me a bit more shiny than I would want to.
However, that shiny part is just a personal preference, let’s go back to more objective aspects of this product. One thing I really like is that the mist is very fine, it’s not a spray that is going to be very intense and straight forward in a way one part of your face is just drowning and the rest doesn’t have any spray on it at all.
I also really enjoy the scent. It’s a very settle scent and just a nice one. It doesn’t linger for too long, but it is just nice that it doesn’t stink or anything like that.
When it comes to setting your makeup and making it look prettier I think the MAC Fix+ Spray is a winner. Sometimes my makeup can look a bit cakey. In those cases I really like to use this spray because just a few simple sprays of this will instantly take away that effect and turn my makeup into a flawless look instead of a cakey mess. I also feel like it makes it last way longer. It really makes it stay in place all day and night!
Overall I do like the MAC Fix+ Spray. It’s a nice spray, I like the bottle and I like how fine the mist is and what it smells like. I do also think that it’s a very effective product. It does an amazing job at turning that cakey effect into a more natural look and making my makeup stay in place all day. The only downside to this product is that it does take away much of the mattifying benefits of my powder and therefore it does make me a little more shiny, but using a bit of powder after spraying can easily fix that problem!
With that being said it’s time to end this post. I hope you enjoyed reading it and be sure to let me know if you have any experience with the MAC Fix+ Spray, and if so, let me know how you like it!
