For the longest time I have been using my budget proof Essence Clear Brow Gel to set my brows into place after filling them in. I thought it was a pretty okay product. I can’t say that it’s the best brow gel I’ve ever tried, but considering the price point there’s really nothing to complain about. However, recently I felt like trying something new. Another clear brow gel, just to see what else is out there. I ended up buying the MAC Brow Set in the Clear colour and I’ve been trying it ever since. It looks pretty simple and it looks an awful lot like my trusty Essence brow gel, so I was very interested to see whether or not there would be any difference between the two. If you’re curious to find out the answer to that question, make sure you continue reading this post!
The MAC Brow Set Clear comes in a standard MAC packaging. The box is black, has white text on it and looks pretty simple. When you open up the box the tube will reveal itself. The tube is clear, showing the clear brow gel and the wand through it, and the lid is black. The tube isn’t very slim or long, but it’s a decent size. It comes with 8 grams of product. Comparing that to the Essence one that comes with 9 ml and one of my favourite brow gels from Benefit which comes with 7 ml, I think it’s a pretty decent amount. I think it will last you for a proper amount of time. Considering the price I also think it’s okay.
The MAC Brow Set comes in two shades. The clear one and a tinted one. Back in the day I used to love tinted brow gels, but these days I don’t really love them anymore. The main reason why is because I feel like you can go overboard with them very easily. They might add too much colour to the brows making them too heavy and if you’re not that precise they might stain the rest of your face. Clear brow gels are therefore way easier to use.
MAC has one other brow gel in its collection. That version comes in a ton of shades, but it didn’t come in a clear edition. The wand on that gel did look more appealing to me, so if you’re into tinted brow gels you might want to check that one out as well.

According to MAC their Brow Set Eyebrow Set is supposed to be delivering an invisible veil with a formula that expertly combs, shapes and defines the brows with long-wearing, eight hour wear. It will help you achieve naturally flawless-looking brows. The transparent brush-on gel should groom, shape and add style to the eyebrows. The gel will add subtle shine and shape to your arches, whilst the dense fibre brush grooms and fixes hairs in place, separating and defining them without flaking or stiffening. It can be used on lashes, brows, sideburns and facial hairs and it’s safe for contact lens wearers.
Looking at the claims I think it’s a pretty cool product. However, looking at the product with a very down-to-earth view I’m not sure whether this product is going to live up to all of these claims. After all it looks pretty basic.
But that’s where I was wrong. This brow gel is actually really impressive. Starting with the wand. The wand looks very similar to the wand on my Essence brow gel, but this one is way better. My main struggle when it comes to applying brow gel is that there’s always too much product on the brush, loading your brows with gel. Too much gel. However, I don’t know how they did it, but with this wand that isn’t the case. It has the exact right amount of product on it that’s just enough to coat your brows and set them in place, without making them wet because they’re overloaded with product.
Another important thing about a brow gel, any brow gel, is that it sets the brows into place and keeps them there all day long. Well, knowing how excited I am about this brow gel I don’t think it’s a surprise that this one does that perfectly. And what I love about this brow gel is that it does that in a very natural looking way. It doesn’t make the hairs of my brows look harsh or like they’re set with gel. It keeps them looking natural and it keeps its natural shine alive. But at the same time they are locked for the day. No need to worry about them anymore.
When it comes to the staying power I find it hard to decide for how long it keeps my brows in place. MAC claims that it offers about 8 hours of wearing time, but I’m actually thinking that it might be even more. I have been wearing this on days where I did my makeup at 5:30 in the morning, and when I got home around 19:00 my brows were still alive and set into place. That’s a lot more than just 8 hours. But it will obviously depend on the type of brow hairs you have and what you do with your face all day as well.
All in all I’m very impressed by how well this MAC Brow Set works for me. To be honest I didn’t really expect it to be much more amazing than my affordable favourite from Essence, but it really proved me wrong. This brow gel is actually amazing. It has the right amount of product on the wand, it sets my brows into place in a very natural way and it keeps them in place all day long. There’s really not much more I can wish for in a brow gel. Yup, this is definitely a big favourite!
That’s going to be it for today. Thank you guys so much for reading today’s post and be sure to let me know which brow gel you love using and why!
