Throughout the past couple of months I have reviewed a variety of new MAC makeup brushes that I bought back in November. But there’s still one brush I haven’t reviewed yet. I’m talking about the MAC 288S Mini Shader Brush. This might seem like the most boring brush in the whole wide world, but I actually think that it’s a super useful and musthave brush to have in your collection. In today’s post I’m going to tell you guys why I think so and how I like this brush quality-wise. So if you’re interested in finding out about all that, make sure you continue reading this post!
The MAC 288S Mini Shader Brush is a very slim and tiny little brush. The design of the brush is standard MAC and it’s very professional and elegant in my opinion. The handle is black and the only thing that isn’t black is the part where it says which brush this is. Then you have the silver metal part and then you get the actual hairs of the brush. Like I said, simple but elegant. I like the look of it.
Compared to some other MAC brushes I have in my collection, I feel like this one is the one with the slimmest handle. It’s rather small and if you have a rather large collection of brushes it can be a bit hard to find it every now and then. Well, I have to admit that I struggle finding it more often than I would like to admit. But that’s a whole other story and not important for right now.
The MAC 288S Mini Shader Brush is a black haired brush. Generally speaking I do prefer the look and feel of white haired brushes or at least brown hair, but it’s the way it is. And if it performs well, who am I to judge it on the colour of its hair.
MAC 288S Mini Shader Brush – €22
The 288S Mini Shader Brush from MAC is actually just what it is called. A very small shader brush. In terms of shape it’s like a miniature eyeshadow brush. It has the rounded top and the straight edges. I do feel like the hairs on this brush are a little more flexible than the hairs on their actual shader brush, but that’s a very positive thing to me. The brush isn’t very thick if you look at it from the side, but it does get a bit wider towards the end of it.
My personal favourite purpose of this brush is to use it to apply eyeshadow in the centre of the lid. Whenever I do an eyeshadow look, I like to use a pretty dark shade all over the lid. In order to get the look to be wearable enough for daily activities, I then like to apply a brighter or lighter shade in the centre of the lid, to bring more light into the look. You can definitely do that using a regular shader brush, but that way you won’t have a lot of precision or you might end up with a much larger part being filled with that colour.
In terms of quality I’m definitely a huge fan of this brush. The hairs are synthetic and very well made. There’s no shedding of hairs while washing or using it and it feels really nice and soft. I definitely feel like this is a really durable brush and that it won’t lose its shape over time.
All in all I’m not disappointed in my MAC 288S Mini Shader Brush. I think it’s a very useful and essential brush for me and I actually use it all the time. The shape of the brush is perfect and the size is too. I also think that it’s a high-quality brush made out of great materials. It might seem a little bit expensive for such a tiny brush, but for me this has been a great investment in my brush collection. I definitely recommend getting it if you love doing more detailed work in your eyeshadow looks!
And with that being said I’m ending today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of this mini shader brush from MAC!
