When I saw the pictures of the Lush valentine’s day collection there was one bath product that I knew I needed to have, the Unicorn Horn. I love bubble bars a ton and this one looked like the most prettiest thing in the whole wide world. It’s a bit more pricy in the Netherlands than in it in the UK, but well, I tried to forget I ever noticed that and buy it here anyway. When it came in I immediately took pictures of it so I could use it as soon as possible. And today it’s time for the review. So if you’re interested in finding out if you need to run to the store to get this too, make sure you continue reading this post!
Like I said, the Lush Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar is part of their Valentine’s Day collection. This collection launched soon after Christmas and will be there until Valentine’s day. I do think that the collection is pretty small compared to the Christmas collection, but well, it’s not as big a holiday I guess? Anyway, the collection comes with quite a few bubble bars, which I love, but this one is by far the prettiest. I mean look at it. It’s pink, yellow and purple and it’s shaped like an actual unicorn horn. How cute can something be right?!
One thing I did notice when I looked up reviews about this little guys is that it did change quite a bit compared to other years. This year it doesn’t have the little stars in there and I feel like there isn’t as much glitter. I also think that the colours are more vibrant looking these days. I do think it’s a bit sad they left out the stars, but I do prefer the way the colours look in this version.
All in all I really, really like the look of this bubble bar. I think that it’s colourful and fun looking and I really like the shape of it. This is by far my favourite bubble bar from the valentine’s collection so far. It’s the only one I’ve tried at this moment in time, but that doesn’t mean this can’t be my favourite.
Lush Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar (valentine’s LE) – €6,50
Bubble bars have a bit of a different texture than bath bombs usually do. That’s because you have to crumble them underneath the running tap. However, I do feel like the texture of this bubble bar is a bit different to all of the other ones I’ve tried so far. Somehow it feels a bit more ‘sticky’ or wet. It’s not as dry as the others. Therefore it’s easier to break off a piece, but it’s also not as sturdy as the more dry ones are. I don’t really know why this is the case, but I immediately noticed it when I took this out of the box.
When I first broke off a piece of the bubble bar in order to use it I noticed it was more wet inside than I expected. I know that bubble bars do have a different consistency than the bath bombs and that they are more ‘soft’, but it’s legit moist inside. When I tried to crumble it, all of the product just stuck to my hands. I haven’t experienced this before with a bubble bar so I do feel like there’s something wrong with this one. Maybe I just got a faulty one, maybe all of them are like that, but I don’t like it. It makes it harder to use and I feel like it does have an influence on the way it performs. But more on that later.
In terms of scent I do like this bubble bar. It has a lavender scent and a hint of sweetness to it. I really like that. When I keep it outside of my Lush-drawer, out in the open, my entire room smells wonderful. However, when I used this in my tub I hardly smell anything. Okay, I do have a cold, but if I can smell all the other Lush products in my bath even though I have a cold, I don’t think that’s the reason why I’m not smelling this. Usually when I use a Lush product in my bath, my mom always says “it smells like Lush up here” when she comes upstairs. Both times when I used this one, she didn’t notice anything. That’s not a good sign.
Because of the colourful looks of the bubble bar I expected it to give my bath a very colourful look. Normally bubble bars do do that, unless they’re white to start off with. However, this one hardly coloured my bath. When I first crumbled it under the running tap I did see a slight bit of colour, but once my bath was completely filled up the water was clear. No bright pink, purple or anything like that and no colour. Nothing at all. It was actually really boring looking and it didn’t give me that exciting feeling I normally get when I bathe in a Lush-filled-bath.
In terms of bubbles I was disappointed as well. Bubble bars are known for the amounts of bubbles they create. Big, stiff bubbles. But again, there were some bubbles when I just ran it under the running tap, but once my bath was filled there were only a couple of bubbles left. I really don’t get what is going on with this. It’s a bubble bar for heavens sake, why are there no bubbles. And no smell and no colour?! Lush, what is up?!
Because the bath was so boring it didn’t really prompt me to stay in there for too long. It just didn’t do anything and part of the fun of taking a bath are the bubbles and the fun colours. They weren’t there. I also didn’t feel like it did all too much for my body in terms of leaving it feeling soft. So in conclusion it did nothing for me. And I’m so disappointed by that because I was so super excited about this bubble bar, I was ready to order a lot more of them!
Knowing what I know now, I don’t think I’ll be ordering more of these Unicorn Horn Bubble Bars. I’m so super disappointed by it and I have never experienced that with any Lush product. Considering the price of them I really think it shouldn’t be such a dud. I should be magical like all other Lush products. One thing I do need to say is that this disappointing experience could be caused by me having a faulty one, but somehow I feel like it could just as well be this bubble bar. If you have any experience with this bubble bar, please let me know if you thought it was such a dud too!
That’s it for today’s review. I hope you enjoyed reading about this stunning unicorn bubble bar and be sure to let me know what you think of this bubble bar and what your favourite item from the valentine’s collection is!
