Back in December I first smelled the Lush Sleepy scent. And it really made an impression on me. Because I had some sort of disconnection in my head I didn’t purchase it at the time (while it was on sale for some reason) and I have regretted that ever since. So, when I went ahead and placed an order on the Lush UK website I decided to finally get myself a tiny bottle of the long awaited Lush Sleepy Shower Gel. I have been using it ever since and today I’m going to review it for you guys. So, if you want to find out whether or not Lush Sleepy Shower Gel is as amazing now that I have it as I thought it would be when I first smelled it, make sure you continue reading this post!
The Lush Sleepy Shower Gel comes in another classic Lush bottle. It is, for the most part, made out of clear plastic through which you can see the bright lavender colour of the shower gel. There’s a black label wrapped around the bottle, telling us which shower gel we’re dealing with and what this is going to do in a few dreamy words. It all looks very cute and pretty. And best of all: if you have five empty packagings (including these bottles) you can get a fresh face mask for free at Lush. If that’s not exciting, I don’t know what is.
The Lush Sleepy shower gel does come in different sizes. The smallest one is the one I got, and comes with 110 grams for €9,50. The medium size contains 260 grams and will set you back €18,95. The biggest one on the Dutch website comes with 500 ml and costs €31,95. On the UK website they also have an even bigger size, containing 1 kg of your favourite purple goodness for just £34,95.
The prices of the Lush shower gel do differ quite a lot if you compare the Netherlands to the UK. I mean, you get 1 kg for £34,95 (about €40,50) and in the Netherlands you get 500 ml for €31,95. That’s a huge difference if you ask me.

So, before we jump into anything regarding this product I first want to skim through some interesting products in the ingredient list of this shower gel. The first three ingredients are SLS, glycerine and sodium cocoamphoacetate. These three don’t necessarily catch my interest. Next is oat milk (rich and soothing), lavender flower infusion (balancing, soothing and helps to fall asleep), lavender oil (same as lavender flower infusion) and ylang ylang oil (sweet, floral scent and reduces anxiety). This is an interesting list. It also gives us a clear idea of what this shower gel is going to smell like. But before we jump into that, let’s see what Lush has to say about their Sleepy shower gel:
Sleep, drift to sleep,
Sweet tonka counts the sheep,
Lavender shakes the dreamland tree,
And from it fall sweet dreams for thee. After a long day, relax into a soothing, softening wash of oat milk and carrageenan extract. If sleep eludes you, the sheep keep escaping or sweet dreams are feeling distant, shower with calming lavender flower infusion and lavender oil to ensure you sleep tight. Ylang ylang oil washes away worries and allows you to sink into bedtime, or start your day, with serenity.”
Sounds good doesn’t it? I like the fact that this is a calming shower gel that will help you fall asleep easier. I like to take my showers and baths at nighttime, so this is going to be perfect for me. Well, if it works.
Even though I kind of knew what this shower gel was going to smell like, I was surprised about the scent when I first smelled this shower gel again. It was a little different than I expected. A lot stronger and more lavender-y. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I just needed to get used to it. It really does have a strong lavender scent so that’s something you need to like if you want to like this shower gel. But the lavender scent is mixed with some sweetness from the ylang ylang, making it more unique than just a lavender scented shower gel. It’s definitely different than anything I’ve ever smelled.
To me this is a very soothing scent. It’s not like I fall asleep the second I smell this, but I am positive that it helps. My boyfriend on the other hand has a very different experience with it. He thinks it smells like candy. So it might depend on your nose whether you think it smells soothing or like candy. But for me it’s soothing so I’m happy about that.
In terms of the shower gel functions of this product I’m really happy with Sleepy. It’s a very rich and creamy shower gel. It’s not as thick as a shower cream, but it’s definitely not super liquidy. It feels like it’s packed with rich and moisturising ingredients and once on the skin it definitely feels that way as well. It leaves my body feeling clean yet moisturised. I’m really happy about that combo.
All in all I’m not disappointed with my new Sleepy Shower Gel from Lush. I really like the scent and I love how creamy the formula of this shower gel feels. The scent does have a very soothing effect on me and it makes me clean at the same time. For me this is definitely a winner. So if you love the scent of lavender but with a twist, you might want to give this little guy a try as well!
With that being said I’m going to end today’s review. Thank you guys so much for reading and be sure to let me know what you think of the Lush Sleepy scent. Do you love it or hate it?
