Aside from all of the super exciting bath bombs in the new Lush Christmas collection, there are also some other products that caught my interest. Like the new Lush Candy Cane Toothpaste Jelly. First of all I love candy canes and second of all; a toothpaste JELLY? That sounds amazing. I’m definitely not a jelly kind of girl, but this did look and sound too good to skip. Therefore I bought a jar of this amazing goodness and in today’s post I’m going to review it for you guys. So if you’re interested in finding out more about this amazing looking product, make sure you continue reading this post!
Let’s start off with the thing we always start off with: the discussion of the packaging. The Lush Candy Cane Toothpaste Jelly comes in a small plastic pot. The plastic is clear and is decorated with a black typical Lush label. It’s definitely a good looking packaging to me. It’s simple, but it’s typical Lush. And also: this packaging also counts for the recycle program that Lush has, so that’s always a good thing to me.
The size of the jar isn’t super large, but considering the fact that this is a toothpaste I think you get quite a normal amount of product. The jar is filled with a total of 60 grams of product. I just looked up the size of a regular drugstore toothpaste for reference and those come with 75 ml of product. That’s clearly more than the 60 grams you get in here. But then again, this is a much more special product than a regular toothpaste. Okay, what I’m trying to say here is that I think it’s a properly sized product and I don’t mind that you get a little less product then you’d get in a regular toothpaste tube.
In terms of price I think this toothpaste jelly is quite okay. I bought it on the UK webshop and it costed me 5 pounds. That’s not too bad right. If you look at the Dutch price I do think it’s quite pricy for what it is, but well, it’s Lush you know.
Lush Christmas 2019 Candy Cane Toothpaste Jelly – €8/£5
Enough blabber about the packaging and the price. Let’s take a look at what really matters here, the product itself. The first thing I can say about the product is that I really like what it looks like. It does remind me of a candy cane with the red and the white. But before we jump in even more detail, let’s quickly look at Lush’s description of the product!
Sweeten up the season with this toothpaste jelly packed full of menthol crystals to deeply cleanse the teeth and soothe sore gums. Carrageenan extract and agar agar give this natural toothpaste a recognisable texture as you enjoy a refreshing flourish of peppermint oil. Enjoy mistletoe kisses that will linger, thanks to sweet stevia.”
What I get from Lush’s explanation is that this toothpaste jelly is not just a gimmicky product, but a product that should really cleanse your teeth. It does that with its menthol crystals. Aside from toothpaste-essential ingredients this toothpaste jelly also has some ingredients in it to give it its scent, colour and texture. One thing it does lack is fluoride. To me that is a toothpaste-essential ingredient so because of that I don’t see this as an everyday product.
Another thing that kind of bothers me about the ingredients is that there are sweetening agents in here like stevia and stuff. I don’t know if this is normal in a toothpaste, but I just don’t like the sound of it if I’m being honest.
What I do really like about this toothpaste jelly from Lush is the scent. I have to admit that normally speaking I do prefer strawberry-flavoured candy canes, but in this case I do really like the peppermint as well. It’s a very fresh scent that does make me think this is really going to give my mouth a good fresh feel.
The way you use this toothpaste jelly is that you dip in your toothbrush right before you get your toothbrush wet. After the jelly is on the brush you can wet it and then you just go to town like you usually do. Nothing too special. In your mouth it acts the same way as any other toothpaste. It foams, it cleans and all of that good stuff. So the jelly aspect is kind of a gimmick, but well, it’s fun.
My experience with the Candy Cane Toothpaste Jelly is kind of okay. I didn’t feel very overwhelmed by it. I didn’t fall in love with it. But I didn’t hate it either. The thing is that it doesn’t give me as fresh of a feeling in my mouth than my regular toothpaste does. And that’s what surprised me about this toothpaste. I mean, it’s peppermint flavoured, you’d think that would be super refreshing. But it’s not. It’s okay. It cleans, it’s fun to use. But to me that’s really it. Now that I’m thinking about it once more I really am not bamboozled by this product.
All in all I’m just not too impressed with the Lush Candy Cane Toothpaste Jelly. I thought it was going to be quite an interesting product, but after using it a couple of times I came to realise it’s not that special at all. The jelly think is kind of a gimmick and the flavour isn’t as fresh and minty as I would have liked. I’d definitely use this product up, but I don’t think I’d be buying another one of this anytime soon.
And with that being said it’s time to end today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading today’s review and be sure to let me know if you would ever try a toothpaste jelly from Lush!
Oh its look perfect pink… love to have it, thanks for sharing 🙂
