Lush American Pie Body Conditioner Naked vs. Potted: Is There A Difference?

21/02/2019

Not too long ago I purchased the Lush American Pie Naked Body Conditioner from the Valentines collection from Lush. I loved the scent, loved the product and I still use it a ton. But when I wanted to order a couple of things from the Lush UK website, I noticed that there’s a slight difference in ingredients when you compare the American Pie Naked Body Conditioner with the regular Body Conditioner. This made me decide to order the regular body conditioner and see for myself if there’s any difference between the two. In today’s post I’m going to tell you guys all about it. So if you’re interested in finding out more about this mysterious American Pie Body Conditioner from Lush, make sure you continue reading!

The normal Lush American Pie Body Conditioner comes in one of their famous, recycled black pots. I really like the look of them and I like the fact that they are made from recycled plastic. And best of all: when you finish your entire pot of product, you can give them back to Lush and get one free face mask in return for five black pots! How cool is that?!

Anyway, the American Pie Body Conditioner comes in two sizes. There’s a small pot which comes with 100 grams and there’s a big pot that comes with 240 grams. Because I love the American Cream scent so much I obviously decided to buy the biggest pot of the two, the 240 gram pot. I don’t know if this big pot compares in size to the naked version, or if the naked version is a representation of the smaller pot. I’d love to find out though, so if you know more about that, please let me know!

In terms of pricing I think the biggest pot is the best deal. When you get the 240 gram pot you have to pay €22,95, which comes down to €0,10 per gram. If you buy the 100 gram pot, you pay €12,95, which comes down to €0,13 per gram. It’s a small difference, but it’s there. If you compare the prices from the Dutch website with the prices on the UK website you will be shook. That’s why I ended up ordering it at the UK website. On the UK website you pay £14,95 for a 240 gram pot, which is about €17,09. That’s a €5,86 difference!

Lush American Pie Body Conditioner 240 gram – €22,95/£14,95

Okay, before we start talking about anything regarding this body conditioner, I first want to look at the ingredients and compare that to the ingredients in the naked version. I made the ingredients that were the same in both products green and the ones that are only in one of the two black. This shows us that there’s actually quite a bit of difference in terms of ingredients between the two versions of the same product. It’s obvious that some ingredients are going to be different since the naked one needs to be solid and the potted one liquid. This explains the wax in the naked version compared to the water in the potted version.

But one thing that did really shock me is the difference in scent-ingredients. The main players in the classic American Cream scent are the strawberry and vanilla. The naked version actually doesn’t even have strawberry in it, while the potted version does. And while the naked version has actual orange puree in it, the potted version does it with just an infusion of fresh orange. The potted version also has way less perfume in it than the naked one does. It’s much higher up the list in the naked body conditioner.

All in all I’m actually quite surprised by this difference in ingredients. I expected there to be some since the one is solid and the other one isn’t, but I didn’t think that the fragrance would actually differ between the two products. When you smell the two products side by side, I do think this difference is noticeable. The naked version smells much stronger but doesn’t have as much of the strawberry scent to it. The potted version is not as strong, but has more sweetness to it.

Okay, having taken a closer look at the difference in ingredients in these two products, let’s start talking about the way it performs. What I like about the Naked Body Conditioner is that it’s super easy and quick to use and that it’s incredibly hydrating. All you have to do is move it all over your body and you’re done. I do think that that’s much easier than using this potted one. This one you have to open, you have to take some product, massage it into your skin, take some more, massage it into another area and so on. It takes a much longer time to apply the product all over your body.

It also feels a lot different. I feel like the naked one has much more of an intensely hydrating feel to it. And I like that a lot more. I do think that this difference can be explained by looking at the ingredients, since the potted version has a lot of water in it and the naked one doesn’t.

One pro about the potted version of this American Pie Body Conditioner is the fact that it’s less of a mess and hustle to use. The naked one needs to stay out of the water and therefore I place it right outside my shower on the floor. Once it’s used I place it back and it’s all slippery and stuff. Afterwards I have to clean the thing I put it on, wait for the thing to dry and only then I can place it back. When I’m using the potted version I can just use it and than I’m done.

Focussing on the potted version for now, I do think it’s a really nice and hydrating product. Even though I think the naked version is easier to use in the shower, I think that the potted version is really quick and easy too. I actually prefer this over using a normal body lotion after taking my shower. This makes the amount of time you have to shiver in the cold before dressing yourself a lot shorter and that’s so much more comfortable to me.

I also think that these body conditioners from Lush are much more hydrating than any body lotion ever. It leaves my skin feeling so incredibly soft and this effect lasts until the next day. I can clearly feel a difference. After using this product a couple of days in a row I notice that the effect gets better and better and my legs feel softer and softer by the day. A couple of days ago I noticed that I was having very dry skin on my legs. I actually saw flakes of skin and that’s not something that happens to me a lot. I decided to use this body conditioner and within the day the dry flakes were gone and they haven’t made a return ever since.

The last thing I like about this American Pie Body Conditioner is the fact that you could use it as a normal body lotion as well. And that’s not something you can easily do with the solid version. Before I knew that body conditioners were supposed to be used in the shower I used to use mine as a normal body lotion. This way it’s even more hydrating since you don’t wipe away part of the product while drying yourself. I do think this way of using it makes it very intense, but if you want to, you could use it like that!

All in all I still really like the Lush American Pie Body Conditioner. There are definitely some things I like better about the naked version, but there are also things I prefer about this potted version. I think that the scent is really amazing, I wish it would be stronger, but it’s amazing, and I love the way it leaves my skin feeling. It’s so much more hydrating than anything I’ve ever used. And it’s also so quick and easy. I really love this product to pieces!

And with that being said, I’m going to end today’s post. Thank you guys so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you think of the American Cream scent from Lush!
