Lush American Cream Shower Gel Naked vs. Bottled: Is There A Difference?

06/03/2019

Back when the Lush Valentines Collection launched I fell in love with the Lush American Cream Shower Gel. I first bought the American Cream Naked Shower Gel and a while later I bought the bottled version as well. Not because I didn’t like the naked one, but because I knew I needed more of this shower gel before it was gone and I was curious to find out if there would be any difference in the naked vs. the bottled version of the same product. So, in today’s post I’m going to compare these two products, talk about the pro’s and cons of both products and let you guys know which one I prefer in the end. If you’re interested in reading about all that, make sure you continue reading this post!

It’s pretty obvious, but the bottled version of the Lush American Cream Shower Gel comes in a bottle. This is one of those classic Lush bottles and I totally love the look of it. It looks so authentic and it’s just a piece of eye candy to have laying around in my body care collection. Yes, I have a serious body care collection, don’t judge. I love that you can see the milky pink colour through the bottle and I’m still so in love with the font Lush uses to write down the names of their products. It looks so cool!

The Lush American Cream Shower Gel comes in three sizes. There’s a small size, containing 100 ml, which will set you back €9,50. There’s a medium size, containing 275 ml at the cost of €18,95. And there’s a big size, containing 500 ml for €31,50. I ended up going for the medium size because I already have one naked shower gel bottle of this laying around and these puppies can expire. However, mine contains 250 ml instead of 275 ml because I bought it from the UK website and somehow they have different sizes.

Lush American Cream Shower Gel 250/275 ml – €18,95

Looking at these two shower gels side by side I get very happy. I love the pink colour of them and since I love the scent of American Cream, I’m really happy I got two ‘bottles’ of it now. In terms of scent I do think that these two products are pretty much the same. I don’t notice a strong or clear difference in the scent and there’s no difference in how intense the scent is in both products.

For those of you who aren’t familiar yet with the American Cream shower gel or scent in general (by the way: you’re missing out!) I will describe it very briefly. American Cream smells like a strawberry milkshake. It’s a sweet and fruity scent, but it’s no typical strawberry scent. It also has some vanilla to it which adds warmth to the scent and creates the perfect balance of everything you want your body to smell like. I might be a bit biased on this subject, but lord do I love the scent of this shower gel. It’s amazing!

One thing I was curious about is what size bottle the naked version represents. I mean, the normal bottles come in three sizes, but the naked one only in one. According to Lush is lasts twice as long as their bottled version but I can’t find the exact numbers on what amount if should represent. Looking at the size I’m guessing the medium bottle, but considering the fact they say it lasts twice as long it might resemble the 500 ml bottle.

The main pro about the normal, bottled shower gel is that we’re used to using it. At first I truly thought that the bottled shower gel was easier to use, but I’m not so sure about that anymore. I mean, whenever I use a shower gel I take it with me underneath the shower, use it, and then take it out, dry it off and put it back in my collection again. With the naked shower gel I do the same, but the using it part is actually easier. You don’t have to squeeze product out, you can use it directly onto your body. So I personally think that it’s a matter of getting used to. Because naked shower gels are so new, we’re not used to using them yet. But I’m sure that will change over time.

In my experience the naked shower gel lasts a very long time. But I do think that it depends on how you use it. I slice off a piece of the shower gel (as I told you guys in my Lush Tips post) and I keep that piece in a little Lush tin. This way the rest of the product doesn’t get wet and you won’t melt away as much product. However, if you just use the whole thing (so without slicing off a piece) I’m sure it won’t last as long.

When it comes to actually doing good for my skin I feel like the naked shower gel might even win. Somehow I feel like the naked products are more moisturising and hydrating and because you use them directly onto your skin you might feel that a little more. In the Naked American Pie Body Conditioner this difference is probably caused by the ingredients, since the solid one has more butters in it than the potted one does, and I’m sure that’s the same case in this shower gel.

All in all I really like the Lush American Cream Shower Gel. I think the scent is absolutely amazing and ground breaking and I just can’t get over it. In terms of the bottled version vs. the naked version I’m not sure. I actually am leaning towards the naked one but I think it’s also a matter of what you’re used to. I’m sure that in a couple of years, when we’re more used to using naked products, many peoples opinion on them might have changed!

With that being said I’m ending today’s post. Thank you so much for reading it and be sure to let me know what you prefer: naked or bottled. And also let me know if you love the American Cream scent just as much as I do!

Love it!
