Colourpop Dupe?! Lovely Cosmetics Silver Highlighter

22/09/2017

Recently I’ve been getting more and more into highlighter. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not like I hated highlighter before, but I just didn’t spend too much time on it. While wandering to the drugstore in Poland I came across this little beauty from the brand Lovely Cosmetics. It’s their Silver Highlighter and it actually really reminded me of the Colourpop products. I decided to buy it and give it a go since I was very interested in trying it. Today it’s time for the review. If you’re interested in finding out more about this product, make sure you continue reading!

The packaging of the highlighter was the first thing that caught my attention. This highlighter comes in a white round pot with a clear middle. Through the middle you can see the highlighter which has a really pretty pebble pattern going on. The overall look of the packaging really reminded me of those round pots Colourpop has. And even though it’s very simple I do really like the look of it. It’s simple but cute.

The Lovely Silver Highlighter actually comes in two different versions. The other one is called Golden Highlighter and is a little more warm toned and obviously more gold than this one is. Even though this one is called Silver Highlighter I don’t think it’s silver and I don’t think it’s as cool toned as a silver usually is. I don’t know why they called it like that, but that could just be me being dumb.

Lovely Silver Highlighter – PLN 9,39/ €2,20

Moving on the the actual product. The highlighter has a really pretty champagne colour with a nice sheen to it. It’s called Silver Highlighter, but the highlighter itself isn’t silver. It’s the shimmer that’s in there that is actually silver, so don’t let the name fool you! In my opinion this is a pretty standard highlight shade. It’s nothing too unique or special, but it is really pretty. Colours like this are definitely my favourite when it comes to highlighting because it does look pretty natural and soft on the cheek bones.

Like I said there’s another version of this highlighter, the Lovely Golden Highlighter. This one is much warmer and more on the golden/yellowy side. I do like warm colours, but not that warm, so for me this is the perfect shade. However, if you do love a more golden glow, you might want to look out for the Golden Highlighter!

It was quite difficult to find information about this product online since it’s not a very famous brand or anything like that and as far as I know it’s not sold in a lot of places. After Googling a little bit I found out Lovely Cosmetics has an English version of their website and on there I found a little more information regarding this product.

According to Lovely this is a unique face highlighter. The formula is composed to give maximum shine, without a trace of colour. It gives the skin a fresh look, reduces the look of fatigue and enhancer the cheekbones. The formula contains silk proteins that moisturise the skin.

It’s not a lot of information, but now we do know what the idea behind this highlighter was. I always like to know things like that. I like that this is not just a highlight, but that it’s moisturising as well. Or at least it’s supposed to be moisturising. Even though you might not really notice a ton of difference, I just think it’s a nice little extra that sets this product apart from other highlighters.

Another thing this highlighter claims to do is give you a lot of glow, without a trace of colour. When I first read that I thought it was a mistranslation, but after translating the text myself I came to the conclusion that that’s really what it says. At first I really didn’t understand why you wouldn’t want it to be coloured, but after thinking about it a little I do think I understand why.

The reason why I think they don’t want it to leave behind colour is because that came make it look very unnatural. If it has a very distinct colour, it might look like a champagne stripe on your face instead of a gorgeous glow. I think the highlighter looks more natural this way.

Moving on to the texture. In my experience lots of affordable powder products have a bit of an icky texture. They tend to be rather dry and some even feel like they’re made out of cardboard. This highlighter wasn’t like that. It isn’t as smooth as my Too Faced Love Light for example, but that doesn’t mean that this doesn’t have a nice texture. If you compare the prices of that Too Faced highlighter and this one, it’s obvious that this one would have a less amazing texture.

Anyway, I do think that the texture is really nice. It’s very smooth and easy to apply. It glides over the skin very easily and it doesn’t look very blotchy at all. I also really like the amount of colour pay off, it’s not a highlighter that you really have to build up.

As you can tell from the swatch this is definitely a pigmented highlight. But the problem with some highlights is that they do look amazing on the swatch, but once you put them on your face most of the glow will be gone. Well, I can tell you (and you can see for yourself) that that’s not the case at all with this highlighter. I was so impressed by how pretty this highlighter looked on the face. At first I wasn’t very excited to try it on my face because I was scared it would be a big disappointment, but lord oh lord. This is pretty!

The staying power of the highlighter is pretty okay. I always find it hard to talk about this because how well something stays in place depends on so many factors like the weather, your skin, what you’re doing throughout the day, etc. It’s also something I’m not checking up on all day, so if it does get a little less intense I don’t notice it right that second. But overall I do feel like the highlighter stays in place pretty well. It does lose a little bit of intensity throughout the day, but in general it does hold up pretty well.

Overall I’m very impressed by the Lovely Silver Highlighter. When I saw it in store I was quite intrigued by it, but I never expected it to be this amazing. It’s such an affordable product but it does give the prettiest glow in the world to your cheekbones. I’m head over heals with this highlight and if you ever find it somewhere, be sure to take one with you to give it a try for yourself, it’s worth it!

And that’s everything for today. I hope you enjoyed reading today’s review, and be sure to let me know what your favourite budget proof highlighter is!
