Primer is one of those products that I use every single time I apply makeup. I used to think they were unnecessary, but now that I use them, I’m hooked. I’ve tried many different ones throughout the years, but I never really found one I genuinely liked. Therefore I decided to buy some new ones in London and hopefully find one that I do like. Today it’s time for me to review the first one, which is the L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying Base. If you’re interested in finding out more about it, keep on reading!
The L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying Base comes in quite a big tube compared to other primers. The tube contains 35 ml of product, which is about the same amount of product you would get when you’d purchase a foundation. It might seem like something obvious, but lots of primers come in teeny tiny packagings with only small amounts of products for quite a lot of money, looking at how little product you actually get. I’m glad L’Oreal isn’t like that.
The tube itself isn’t my favorite, but there’s nothing wrong with it. It’s easy to use and it’s hygienic. I’m just not a huge fan of the way it looks. It’s not awful, it’s just not really amazing. But still I do think it does look kind of professional.
One last thing I like about the packaging is that on the back there is a very clear description of what you can expect from this product, it gives you some information on the texture of the product and when to use it and it even gives you a “pro-tip”. To me that tip is nothing new, but for those of you who aren’t familiar with primers or are just new to makeup in general, things like this could be really useful.
On the back of the tube it says this primer has a light texture. I have to say that primers in general tend to be thick and when you keep that in mind you could agree with the fact it’s light, but looking at the texture in general I would say it’s medium or at least light to medium.
The consistency of the primer is pretty basic. It’s the gel type primer. The gel itself is clear and it’s very easy to blend out. I’m usually not a big fan of gelly primers like this because in combination with my moisturiser it tends to get a little gross for some reason, but I haven’t experienced any problems with this primer in combination with my moisturiser yet and I have been using it a lot ever since I got this.
When it comes to keeping me matte I think this is a great primer. I’m not completely sure if it’s just the primer on its own, or if it’s the combination between this primer and the foundation from the same range, but in both cases I think it does an amazing job. I feel like this is, from what I’ve tried, the best primer yet. I really like using it.
And lastly, does it keep my makeup in place longer? Hell yes! I was so impressed by that. Yesterday I applied my makeup at 6:30 in the morning, and when I took a shower in the evening between 23:00 and midnight my foundation was still on my face. I have honestly never experienced that before. I absolutely love it!
So, I think it’s clear I love this primer. I have finally found one that I like using and that actually works for me and that really excites me. I think this primer is perfect for everyday use. It does everything a primer should do and more. It keeps my makeup in place all day, even on long days, it mattifies me and it creates a perfect smooth base for the rest of my makeup. I highly recommend this primer!
The L’Oreal Infallible Mattifying Primer is available at Boots and Superdrug for £7,99.
That was it for today. I hope you enjoyed today’s review and let me know which primer you love the most!
