It has been a while since I bought these two L’Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks, but the past few months have been so busy for me that I just haven’t gotten around to testing them much sooner, let alone writing a full review about them. But well, better late than never right?! Anyway, today I’m going to talk about these two L’Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks. I think that these are some of the most old school but still amazing lipsticks, but because there are so many amazing lipstick brands nowadays I also think that they are forgotten a little bit. Because of that I really wanted to try some out again and see if they’re just as amazing as I remember them. So, today it’s time for the review and if you’re interested in finding out what I think of them, make sure you continue reading!
Let’s start off with the first lipstick of the two. This is the L’Oreal Color Riche Lipstick in the shade 233 Boréal Taffeta. Like all other L’Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks, this one comes in one of the golden tubes. The tube is very basic from the outside but I also think it has a very classic and elegant look to it. It’s timeless and it’s minimalistic, and because of that it’s something that I think will always look good. I actually think that, for a drugstore brand, this packaging looks pretty fancy. Quite luxurious. I’m just a big fan of it. It works like it should and it’s very pretty. But enough about the packaging, let’s start talking about the lipstick itself.
Since the L’Oreal Color Riche range has been out there for years and years now, there are a ton of different shades in the market. The one that I bought, 233 Boréal Taffeta, is a very pretty cool toned nude colour with a hint of purple to it. Normally I’m not that in love with purply lip colours or cool-toned lips in general, but something about this shade just really spoke to me and I just think it’s very pretty.

Boréal Taffeta is a colour that would look pretty good on my lips, but I think that a shade like this one would look even better on people with a somewhat deeper skin tone than mine. I think it would look even more flattering than. I also think that’s it’s definitely a great shade for people with a cool undertone, but it also works on a neutral undertone like mine.
According to L’Oreal their Color Riche Lipsticks are luxuriously rich lip colours with a creamy texture and extreme hydration. They claim that their Color Riche Lipsticks contain hydrating ingredients like Omega 2 and Vitamin E to nourish the lips. The formula is also enriched with Argan Oil to condition and soften the lips. This lipstick will keep your lips, soft, smooth and ultra-hydrated and add a gorgeous colour to it. The shade range ranges from very bold colours to nearly nudes, so according to L’Oreal there’s a shade in there for everyone and every occasion.
Overall it sounds like this is going to be another amazing all-in-one lipstick. One of those lipsticks that does more than just colour the lips. It sounds like it’s also going to condition and hydrate them and therefore improve them. I’m all about that, so let’s hope it’s actually true!
When it comes to colour pay off I am positively surprised by this lipstick. Most hydrating and nourishing lipsticks, like this one claims to be, aren’t the most opaque and pigmented ones. However, this one is pretty opaque. Just as opaque as it can be. And I like that. That’s what it should be like if you’re buying a lipstick that doesn’t specifically state that it’s going to be sheer or anything like that.
The colour itself looks quite pretty on my lips, but I do think I’m a tad bit too pale for it. I do like the shimmer in the lipstick because it’s not too out there or too chunky, but it does add a pretty look to the lips. I also like the creamy finish, I just think that’s the most natural look a lipstick can have and in my opinion also the prettiest finish. I’m a big fan of the creamy shine!
When it comes to staying power I’m definitely not disappointed in this lipstick. It is pretty bullet proof. Of course it does fade throughout the day and the fading proces is going to go faster if you talk, eat and drink a lot, but that’s only natural.
Moving on to the other shade I bought which is called 235 Nude. What an easy name to pronounce compared to Boréal Taffeta! Anyway, as you already knew or at least expected this lipstick comes in exactly the same packaging as Boréal Taffeta. It’s also very classy-looking and pretty luxurious as well. I really like the timeless tube and how well made it feels. But enough about the packaging, we’ve discussed that thoroughly enough by now. Let’s start talking about the colour.
The shade 235 Nude is a very pretty nude colour, like the name already suggests. It’s a lot more warm toned than Boréal Taffeta is and I personally am a big fan of that. I do think that this warm undertone makes it look a little more natural, at least for my complexion, and I like the slight shimmer in it as well. Aside from being more warm toned than Boréal Taffeta, Nude is also a bit more pale. Luckily not pale in a dead-looking way, but it is something I thought was worth mentioning. In general I think that this colour is totally up my alley. I think it’s absolutely gorgeous!

In the claims L’Oreal said that this is supposed to be very creamy. I did doubt that claim when I read in. In my memory these L’Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks are very comfortable and all, but they do have a somewhat unique feel to them. They are not creamy in a balmy way like the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte lipsticks are. These are creamy in a way, but they are a bit more stiff in a way. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but that does take away from the creamy feeling a creamy lipstick usually brings with it.
On a more positive note, the more stiff texture does make sure that this lipstick doesn’t slip and slide everywhere and that therefore it stays in place much better. Like I mentioned before that’s exactly what it does, it stays in place very well, so I’m thankful for that.
Another one of the main claims L’Oreal has made regarding this product is the fact that it’s supposed to be very nourishing and hydrating. Because the texture is rather stiff compared to other creamy, more balmy lipsticks, I didn’t know if this was going to be true. However, I found out that this lipstick actually is pretty nourishing. Definitely not as nourishing as some more balmy lipsticks, but it’s not bad at all!
I know I have mentioned this lipstick being a little stiff a million times by now, but why saying that I don’t mean that it doesn’t apply smoothly or easily. Not at all. It actually is a very easy lipstick to put on. It does glide onto the lips without any effort at all, and because of the more stiff texture the shape of the lipstick stays intact so it’s always easy to be precise with this lipstick. Because this is a very wearable nude shade the precision isn’t that important, but if you’re using a brighter colour this shape thingy could make a big difference.
When it comes to the colour pay off I’m very positive again. Just like the other lipstick this is a very opaque colour and I like it a lot. It has the same settle creamy shine to it which I like and I think it’s a very comfortable lipstick to wear and a very pretty one as well. I’m just really loving the way it looks on my lips!
Overall I think that these L’Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks are amazing. I love the texture of them, they feel soft and creamy but they aren’t too thick or heavy on the lips. They are incredibly comfortable to wear. I love the amount of colour pay off on both of them and I love the shades a lot too. I think that for what you pay these are just incredible lipsticks and I hope that one day they will get the appreciation back they deserve because these are just really great lipsticks!
That’s it for today’s post. Thank you so much for reading and be sure to let me know what you think of the L’Oreal Color Riche Lipsticks and which shade of the two is your favourite!
